Camellia Bowl
Buffalo Bulls +5 ($1100 to win $1000)
The MAC Conference has been my "go-to" conferenc so far this Bowl Season with Miami-Ohio (Bahamas Bowl), Eastern Michigan (Potato Bowl) and Toledo (Boca Raton Bowl) all being some of my picks. Those went 2-1 ATS by the way and I sat out yesterday's Quick Lane Bowl because I just had a bad feeling about Bowling Green. Right call. The MAC is almost never worth betting as favorites in Bowl Games and I've had that golden rule for a while now. Hence a play on Buffalo here. The big story line in this one? Georgia Southern QB Kyle Vantrease was a QB at Buffalo for the last four years and played in 35 games for the Bulls throwing 25 touchdown passes and 13 interceptions. This year at Georgia Southern he threw 25 Touchdown passes and 15 interceptions in 12 games. Both these programs just squeaked into Bowl eligibility at 6-6 with wins in their season finales. The Bulls are 2-0 in Bowl Games under coach Lance Leipold and even won this Camellia Bowl in 2020 against Marshall. The Camellia has traditionall been an insanely good Bowl Game with the first seven editions all being decided by 8 points or less until last year's blowout win by Georgia State. We are due for another close game and with a number like +5 I just can't pass on this.
So who will be more motivated here? The Bulls to beat their former Quarterback Vantrease or Vantrease to beat his former team? Here is what I know. Buffalo won't wow you with their offense or even their defense for that matter but they do a tremendous job taking the ball away. They have forced 4+ turnovers in a game four times this season and are playing against a Georgia Southern team that turned the ball over 19 times this season. Buffalo is #8 in the Country with 26 takeaways this season. Western Kentucky (#1), Middle Tennessee (tied for #2) and Louisville (tied for #2) are also all ranked in the TOP 10 in Turnovers gained this seasonare 3-0 ATS this Bowl Season. Buffalo went 2-6 this season when scoring less than 31 points but Georgia Southern's defense is ranked #129 in yards allowed per game and #112 in points allowed per game at 32.3. I give the advantage to the Bulls and their motivation to make Vantrease regret his transfer decision.
This should be a fun Bowl Game. Storyline always make for a better game and there is a big one in this one. Both schools have been really good in non-conference play under their current Head Coaches (Buffalo is 7-3-1 ATS in their last 11) and both have been good coming off a straight up win this season (Buffalo is 4-1 ATS in their last five). I've already mentioned teams ranked in the TOP 10 in Turnovers gained being 3-0 ATS so far this Bowl Season and I think Buffalo come out pretty motivated and make that 4-0 ATS with a cover in this one. Either way we should be in for a good game.

For now there will be no posted plays for the First Responder Bowl or the Birgminham Bowl this afternoon. Monitoring the lines and some late news and might post plays closer to kickoff.

I really like this pick. I used to coach high school years ago and coached against a team some of my colleagues coached the year prior. They were state ranked and we were 0-5. That whole week of prep in our meetings we focused on their player’s weaknesses We beat them 6-0 for one of the biggest upsets of the year. I always take the coach over the player. Best example Gruden wins the SuperBowl over the Raiders
