So, what do we know? We know that BGSU has the potential to leak like a siv defensively on Saturday. We know that Appleby is a turnover machine. We also know that we have no idea how Blough will respond in this spot.

You want to talk bad defense? What is Purdue's defense? They just gave up 51 to a backup QB that runs a vanilla offense, at HOME in what should have been a must win (but of course, this coach doesn't even want to call games 'must wins' and that should be alarming to any backer). BG is bad but Purdue isn't leaps and bounds better on D.

Appleby is a turnover machine but he moves the ball...gets the ball downfield...works well with his receivers...has a big arm.

All we know of Blough is...nothing...other than that he is undersized. We know he has 5 days to prepare for this game. We know he is, and I'm quoting the coaches, "Texas Tough" and "Good leader".

That sounds like Barbara Bush talking about George. It doesn't speak to what George would do on a college football field.

So do you want the known or the unknown? Blough is 4 months removed from standing next to a punch bowl bopping his head to "It's Rainin' Men! Hallelujah!" at his senior prom! That's what's known.

As an HC in this spot, I think the Qb change has more than likely come as a product of what has happened in practice and in the locker room...would not be surprised if the OC has pushed hard for Blough from the beginning.

You are DEAD WRONG. I've watched the interviews. It is SOLELY due to Appleby turning the ball over on the field of play. And let's not even talk like we value this HC's opinion. He's won TWO non-FCS games out of 24. They've changed QB's in season every year for 4 years and every year it has resulted in a disaster. This is exactly what the Jets have done for past 3 years before this one and they paid the price with many, many losses.

I don't have a side in this fight, so best of luck to you and all the BGSU backers.... there are guys who know a lot more than I that are backing BGSU.

1) David Blough is a Redshirt freshman. Not a true freshman.  This is his second year in the program.  He didn't make prom last spring.

ALERT ALERT!!! Everybody hedge out now because Blough was at him prom dressed like Lloyd Christmas from Dumb and Dumber ONE YEAR and 4 months ago, NOT just 4 months ago! 

2) Blough was an elite 11 QB, 3 star recruit rated by the recruiting services.

3)  Blough is not a complete unkown.  Even in the Phil Steele book, he is picked to win the starting job over Appleby and Etling. The Harris' guide also had the QB job as a dead heat between Blough and Appleby. 

Oh really? That's news to me because Blough was never even mentioned in any remote meaningful capacity before 5 days ago.

4)  "Texas Tough".

5)  OC John Shoop went to Texas and recruited Blough personally.....he wasn't a camp QB or a walk-on invite with partial money. He is Shoop's guy....that is why he is starting Saturday.

OC Shoop is a disaster so this information makes me even more confident in my bet.

6)  The move wasn't made in the Indiana State game because the HC was still sold on Appleby's measurable.  He was still their man; he was best equipped to play what is a top 25 defense in V-tech.  Two more picks and a fumble changed that.

Bottom line: I guarantee that the locker room was grumbling about the turnovers from the QB position....I also guarantee that the OC has been in Hazell's ear for quite some time on wanting to make the QB change; they figure if they dump to BGSU that they are all fired anyhow, so what is the difference? 

You talk about Appleby playing for his job being a potential edge this week???? IF the coaching staff is to get canned after another tough season, a RS Freshman like Blough is playing for his scholarship and future........

Hazell is not going to get canned. He's owed 8 million. This QB switch is yet another convenient way for them to justify losing...and if it works out for them, it's a win-win. I'm not saying Blough can't play but in this spot, with this line, it's a good bet against him.

Like I said earlier, I am pulling for BGSU....I saw that double is going mortgage wager on it.....Best of luck to you boys.

I am not critiquing your pick at all.....just pointing out that there is a HUGE difference between RS freshman, and a TRUE freshman. 

But, you know that; and are probably a bit frustrated that you missed that fact.  It happens...I miss stuff all the time.

I do envy your enthusiasm for the pick in general though; I guess I have lost enough of these strong plays that I don't get excited much at all unless the play is a big ML dog.

Ah well, I will be watching just the same. I am a bit skeptical of HC Babers for BGSU; he lost a  big one at home for me when he coached EIU vs Towson in the FCS quarters a few years back.

Had a stacked squad with Garappolo at QB and couldn't stop Towson at all.
