FWIW....1987 Auburn grad that was there with Bo, Barkley and the Big Hurt....Dad was a QB on Auburn's 1957 National Champs.
I have been saying since last season that this year's Auburn offense will be the best offense in Auburn history. I haven't seen anything yet to make me believe otherwise.
Take that for what it is worth.......

I think this is one game that bucks the Thursday night home dog trend. Snyder is a very good coach but just doesn't have the horses to run with Auburn for a whole game. Still, this is the same thing I thought about Boston College this past week. I will probably take Kansas St. for the first quarter and call it a night. I, like many others think that Auburn pulls away in the second half. That's what so great about college football......we will see.

One of the reasons I like Auburn here is Nick Marshall. Why? He had a subpar (for him) game last week against San Jose - meaning he threw for around 50% completions and fumbled away a TD run. Nick Marshall has never, since he has been Auburn's QB, had two bad games in a row. Ever. He always follows a mediocre performance with a good or great one. This means throwing the ball at a 60-65% completion rate, no INTs (Marshall went 8 games last season without throwing ONE INT. Yes you read that right - 8 games) and running the zone read option to perfection, handing the ball to stud RB Artis-Payne between the tackles, stud RB/slot receiver Cory Grant on the jet sweep, or following his blockers to the 2nd level where he can use his legit sub 4.4/DB speed to gash for yards qne scores. Also important, Auburn gets back Sammie Coates, their most explosive and experienced receiver for this game, who they held out against the Spartans for precautionary measures. So Marshal has his full compliment of experienced receivers to distribute the ball in Malzahn's offensive schematic juggernaut: Sammie, Duke Williams, Quan Bray, Melvin Ray, Ricardo Louis, and stud TE C.J. Ozumah.
As much as I respect coach Snyder, if Nick plays to his legit dual threat capabilities, which I believe he will after last week's game, KSU will not be able to cover it all - they just don't have the speed or the skill. Nor will they be able to sustain drives for 4 quarters. Auburn's defense will get their share of stops. This means an Auburn DD victory going away....

Short week in a tough environment going against a Legendary coach. This is K State's national championship. I will take the +9. Let's not forget how many times the ball bounced the Auburns's way last year? What comes around goes around

What difference does it make that its a short week? They didn't play last weekend......

People are using too many shallow reasons to cap this game... G.O.A.T., short week, Thursday night home dog... it's all well and good, but the players on the field will decide who wins and covers this game...
I would bet even money that I have been betting on the Thursday night home dog, and betting on Bill Snyder (as a fundamental rule!) longer than every single person on this forum... no exceptions! But there has to be more to it than just a coach or just a weekday trend...
Auburn has the coaching and the personnel that is allowing them to run an offense that (and I have been saying this since the middle of last year)... CANNOT BE STOPPED BY A COLLEGE DEFENSE!
So far, nobody has come close to contradicting that statement, and Kansas St will not do it either... neither will Georgia or Alabama or anybody else, as long as Gus is on the sideline, Nick is behind the center, and he has the majority of his offensive weapons surrounding him...
People need to embrace that very firm reality when they are capping Auburn's games!
I'm sure they will have a couple games (probably not more) where they will fail to cover this year... but I am not going to try to guess which games they will be, and until the oddsmakers start putting up lines that reflect that reality (and they haven't come close, yet), you shouldn't be, either!

Guys, Come Thursday I will be on Kansas st + the points. I haven't bet them yet because I'm waiting on the line to go even higher then it is.....
But let me make 2 things clear here.
1) I personally think Auburn is the best team in the country.
2) I think Auburn traveling to Kansas st on Thursday night is something special and why playing on the road in college football is the most important factor. Why? They are gonna play with national audience watching. They will play the GOAT, Bill Snyder. I personally think Kansas st has a really really good shot @ winning this game. Better than most of you think.
I preach this all the time and some listen and some don't.....but playing on the road is the most important factor in the college game. Auburn is the best team IMO....but does that matter? Does it? Yeah it does, if they're playing at Jordan-Hare. But this game AIN'T @ Jordan-Hare....It's in Manhattan Kansas.
I think Kansas st most definitely covers.....and it won't surprise me at the least if they win.
ML???
THE GOAT??? DUDE WHAT IN THE HELL ARE YOU SMOKING DRINNKING OR A COMBINATION OF THE BOTH??? IF YOU ARE INDEED A FAN OF K STATE AND HAVE WATCH THEM THROUGHOUT THE YEARS THEN YOU WOULD KNOW THAT SNYDER HAS HAD SOME GOD AWFUL LOSSES!!! SURE THEY HAVE WON ALSO BUT THE GOAY??? PLEASE!!!!!!

Very true. However, rarely does it have to travel to such a rough place, on a short week, to play and against possibly the greatest college football coach ever.

Calling someone the greatest coach of all time loses a bit of its luster when you realize they are the 2nd greatest coach on the field in this particular game...

Let's be clear about one thing -- Bobby Bowden is the greatest college football coach ever.

Agree with it all! People don't understand or appreciate the offensive wizardry that Malzahn brings to the table. The guy is relentless offensively. He could be up by 12 and is Furious if they don't concert a 3rd down. He wants points every possession. Auburn scores with ease. It's unreal.
I'm sorry but right now Malzahn is a much much better coach than most college coaches right now including Snyder. Auburn rolls.

I can't see how anyone can be supremely confident in picking this game. If you're picking K-state you're hoping to buck a 13 game ATS winning streak and breaking a 3 home-game ATS losing streak. If you like Auburn, the play seems just toooo easy. Aub has lots of attention after last year's run and they only have to cover by less than 2 scores. It's the only CFB game on and it comes on right before an NFL game, so you know there's going to be lots of action. You must know that you're paying a premium with Aub (which is never good) and the vast majority of the public is going to be on Aub. Who doesn't love Aub after what they did to Bama last year? If all the signs are pointing to your team, you have to ask yourself" Why just 8.5?" Auburns probability of covering is no better than 45%(likely much lower). The wiser bet would be an in-game play, but nobody should feel overly confident.

Let's revisit this statement after the game! You are off by a massive amount!
To suggest that Auburn is a team the public is in love with, is to simply not get it! Everybody thinks this team is over-rated, that they got lucky last year, that they are over-valued, etc and so on...
At some point this season, the public will be on the bandwagon... but it has not happened yet!

Don't post much but just wanted to say this is one of the most productive threads I've read in a while. I just wanted to add to BB s point that college football is played with a lot of emotion and sometimes goes beyond X&O's. The perfect example is last weeks USC vs BC game. There is no way that position by position USC is not better at at least 80% of those positions. BUT BC wins that game as a 17 pt dog. Now I'm not saying that these two games are the same, just that home field and certain situations make the football part go out the window and the "intangibles" much more relevant. Case in point, if au plays KSU 100 times on a neutral field, au wins 95 of em. but it's in manhattan on Thursday night with the whole college football world watching. That's what I'm wagering on, not that au is better, I already know they are. I'm betting that in THIS situation that KSU can "hang" with AU on THIS stage. Just my 2c. Thanks to all who post regularly. Always enjoy good discussions.
