seriously people... questioning whether or not stanford has something to play for in a bcs bowl game is absolutely retarded. That's like saying... what did maryland's coach (friedgen) have to coach for? he was going to be out after the bowl game anyway. or what would brett favre have to play for had they made it to the superbowl, he would retire after the game anyway. it is a big game, the biggest in stanford history. i'm shocked that people are questioning motivation.

this stat is misleading as almost all teams have a bad record against top 5 teams. the 1-22 record or whatever it is against top 25 teams away from home is more of a

Depends on the book you use.  Mine has 1st half at -1.5.  I think it changed because a handful of VT kids were suspended for the 1st quarter.   Which may not have moved the line by itself as none are starters but it may have brought in a lot of bets on Stan at the half.

My book now has the half at -2.5 and the game at -4.  Obviously $$ coming in on the favorite.

Stanford is a team out of a conference that simply did not measure up this year... sorry.  Stanford's also a team that got beat 28-0 in the second half of their toughest game this season.  

Virginia Tech, on the other hand, has won 11 consecutive games (10-1 ATS and by double-digits) while passing crucial road tests at bowl-bound NC State, North Carolina, and Miami (FL) before dispatching dangerous Florida State in the ACC Championship game.  

Stanford, meanwhile, did not defeat a team this season with fewer than five losses!  A tough team out of this season's PAC-10?  My ass! 

The venue for tonight's game is a familiar one for Tech and the stadium will be absolutely rocking with the Chicago maroon and burnt orange faithful.  Oh... and for the first time in school history the Hokies will be strapping on orange helmets. 

It's gonna be rockin' and rollin' for a predominately Chicago maroon and burnt orange stadium in Miami tonight.

You clearly must not realize that in addition to losing STRAIGHT UP to James Madison (oh, it was the Boise State Hangover blah blah blah) as a 33 point favourite - the three super teams you mentioned have the following number of losses...

Miami - 5 losses not including getting pasted by Notre Dame in a bowl game

North Carolina - 5 losses

NC State - 4 losses

Has NOTHING to do with capping, but best of luck with your bet.  I'm sure you'll bet everything you have, since you've done so much research.

The players from Maryland all knew that Friedgen was gone. I'm betting the team will have some sort of letdown with the way Harbaugh has handled this situation. Also, the one time Jim Harbaugh's team was backed into a corner at Oregon, it could not fight its way out.

 With respect for motivation, did you happen to see the 1/2 ass effort Oklahoma put in against Boise a few years ago? Or Michigan on Saturday?

When I go to this site I'm looking for some handicapping insight... not a bunch of senseless bullshit.  We all love sports and we all wanna make money... let's share handicapping info and leave it that... shall we?

LOL... First of all OU did put forth a lot of effort. secondly boise was a good team and BEAT them. third, OU loses bcs games all the freakin time! how does OU relate to this? also, michigan has the worst defense in the nation and quite frankly is a bad team, perhaps that had to do with them getting slaughtered like almost everyone predicted?

so the stanford players dunno if harbaugh is gone or not... why in the world would the players who worked their ass off to get to the biggest game in stanford history tell themselves "well harbaugh may not come back so i don't care about this game?" would be understandable for a lower bowl, but not one so nationally hyped.

BAHH.. that's exactly what i was calling out here... ur "senseless bullshit" that people should not be using to cap this game. just trying to help get true points across. It is very reasonable for you to think that all those teams you mentioned va tech played were tough games, but if you are going to say that then it is ridiculous to say stanford beat nobody. stanford beat no better than a 5 loss team and va tech beat no better than a 4 loss team. a very miniscule difference. gluck with ur pick nonetheless. and no i am not "loading up" on stanford. i am simply treating this play as i have most of the others this bowl season.
