I made a goal to double my bankroll. I never said how I would get there or how fast or anything else. To do so would have been idiotic and presumptuous. Successful gamblers win long term, not in a play or in a day or in a specific week. I told you and everyone else where I would be at the end of the year, I am well on my way there and unless you have something intelligent to say (clearly impossible) I am done with this thread. I don't remember wher I read it, but I believe it was about Pinnacle and their line movement.  They have certain players accounts earmarked and call them the $50 sharps.  These guys are small players, yet hit at an absurd percentage...

my belief is:  NO for a number of reasons, other than obvious level of difficulty in picking winners day to day, is the problem with pay outs here in the states.

what happens if you're checks get delayed for a month or one of these unreliable companies shuts down or refuses to pay out someone who has won a large amount of cash on a consistent basis.  We're talking about enough $ to sustain a household, pay a mortgage, car payments, insurances, clothes, education for kids, etc...

we all know the answer is: No

i'd want to get paid cash.

i can't speak to conditions outside the U.S. but I know inside it's damn near impossible on to sustain a reliable, liveable income on the internet if you have real responsibilties to keep.

Way to contradict yourself. Either it is possible to do this for a living, or it's isn't. There is no middle ground. If there are 5 people who do this for a living, then your entire premise is false. The term professional gambler exists for a reason: Because there are professional gamblers. There are many people on Covers alone who do/have done this for a living. Vanzack, Mr Bator and others. Why they aren't chiming in is beyond me, but the reality is not debatable: The high majority of gamblers will not win long term. The majority of the remaining minority will win long term recreationally. But there is a minority of the minority who can and do do this for a living to your most horrific chagrin. This clearly bothers you for some reason because you can't live with reality. Go get your head out of your ass. Read some books like Smart Money and open your eyes to a reality that does indeed exist.

I am not telling people on Covers it is viable for them to pursue this alternative but I would be lying to everyone if, like you, I sputtered with skeptical bullshit that this alternative does not exist to some.

You can accomplish anything with a smart strategy. If you live out of the US, then all of this is a moot point. But even if you do live in the US, all you need is a bankroll in Matchbook and that's it, you're set. They are extremely reliable with payouts. I have never had a check arrive more than 2 weeks after I requested it. Have some money in the bank too and you are set, no problems. You are blabbering your fanatical gobbledygook and it is written pollution. Stop mentioning unreliable books because if anyone bets bases somewhere besides Matchbook, they need their head examined and you can rest assured that Matchbook is as reliable as it gets.

lanny the question of wheather u can earn a living or not is relative to what u define a "living" as:
 
you're trying to make a 100,000 this year and u said u only bet on bases.  so that gives you roughly 6 months to make a 100,000.  i really hope u do.  it makes no difference to me either way.  if u can, good for u but you are the extreme exception.  and u never know what could happen on an internet site.  it's just my opinion.
 
i've asked you this question once before and got no response, now i'll ask you a second time, is it your claim that a las vegas casino has denied YOUR action.

How exactly do you know those who claim to make a living on handicapping do so? Because they claim they do and/or maybe had a good year 2 or 3 years ago? One of the people mentioned in the thread was somewhere near 60 units won 70 units lost on posted CFB, which is usually about the time people quit posting although never for 'that reason' (someone else highly promoted also did this in both CFB and CBB). If one is betting sufficient unit amounts (min 1500-2500) to bring in the supposed 100K or even 50K, they would easily be down 30K even assuming zero juice and this does not sound particularly 'professional'. I define myself and probably 10-15 others on the site as semi-professional making money 6 of 7 years (ranging from 7K-22K) not nearly enough yet to quit the day job, still working on building sufficent bankroll to get closer to the needed 2-3K unit amount, 2-3 more good years and may get there.

It is common knowledge within the gambling community that Vegas shuns and blacklists successful gamblers who win long term. This is fact. They won't let you place wagers if they see you keep making money. Ask anyone. You need runners, guys to place bets for you, and this is a hassle, nevermind costly. Read the book "Smart Money." You will learn a lot.

As for web sites, yes, many will limit the size of your wagers, kick you out, etc. if you keep cleaning up. I have even heard from a friend that Bodog will change their lines for specific users that do well.

However, there a couple of books that understand what good business is and would never dare act this way, namely Pinnacle and Matchbook.

Pinnacle doesn't apply to US customers but they understand that they will make more money long term biting the bullets on some of their big pro gambler payouts than deal with the negative PR associated with limiting players or kicking them out. They have never turned anyone away and because of this have built a sparkling reputation. They are the best of the best, if only you live outside the US.

Then there's Matchbook. Because this is a sporting exchange, it is of no loss to them if you are a high roller sharp who wins 60% of the spreads. They make money on every single bet placed. The more bets, the more money they make, end of story. This is an absolutely sound business model given liquidity, which Matchbook has plenty of.

So there you go, two excellent book with amazingly cheap juice and sparkling reputations. I would never play at any other book so nothing else applies.

If you call cleaning house in baseball for the past two years "a successful run" then that works for me. I destroy bases and I don't mess around. To say I will double my bankroll in a season is a conservative estimate. This is what I do.

In some ways declaring yourself a 'professional' gambler (as opposed to someone with a regular 50K job supplemented by10-20K 'hobby' income from gambling) has it's disadvantages
 
1 - you're much more on IRS radar if you fail to report this income and have a house and any significant amount of cash without a job or stated income, if you think you can make 50-100K a  year without paying 40-50% in taxes, you'll be Wesley Snipes roommate soon in a few years when they figure it all out
 
2 - you can look forward to paying an additional 15.3% in self-employment taxes on top of regular federal and state taxes (and in some areas city or local taxes)
 
3 - paying for your own SE health insurance, which although not researched lately can run $300-$700 a month and/or high yearly deductible
 
In the end, someone making 10-20K under the radar can clear nearly as much or more as a professional making 75K after deducting taxes and insurance.
 
Yes, filing Schedule C as a professional does allow for business expenses to be deductible (which keep in mind means actually spending the money), however for many the expenses for internet generated profits are minimal. There are also tax adjustments for SE tax and SE health insurance, however you only get 15-35% (depending on tax bracket) back for every dollar spent.
