Ya see? Everybody has gone through hell and high water. You'll notice that depression is something we become used to, a state of mind and way of life. This condition is ALL the depressed person knows because the injury (that is exactly what it is), has gone untreated for so many years.
All of the sudden you make a step to improve the brain chemistry and it's 'welcome to the unknown'...... Happiness.
It is as tangible as a broken ankle and limp for 5-10 plus years.
We assume that our brains will always maintain balance despite any trauma. Factually not true. We as humans have to work to maintain mental health.

Wow,if I didn't know better legwand,I would have thought I wrote word for word what you said..I understand where you're coming from. It's even worse when you're 1,900 miles to your closest relative or 3,200 miles where you are probably going to end up.Even harder when you get older and are not so wise and have little or no tolerance for mediocracy.I was married 23 yrs,got divorced moved far away, will never go back there. Then you find yourself in a strange place you don't understand peoples mentality or philosphies and worst opportunities is worse here then most places.Breaks never seem to come your way, almost like gambling sometimes. All you can do is make the most of it,if you have a plan, you're on your way.Hopefully you're young and have good health which is very underated.Things could be worse,at least I try to tell myself that.I'm not a religious fanatic, that would only make things worse, probably would be sleeping with a gun barrel in my mouth. If you have kids, stay close to them,it helps, even if they're far away.Hope things work out for you brother..

No alcohol, No illegal drugs and I've been talking with the Good Lord all my life.
Those are not guarentees of anything. Life can bring you either a ray of sunshine or a punch in the gut. Glad to hear that you have the sunshine. Not everyone gets sunshine.

1. Watch a lot of comedy, or better yet go to comedy clubs.
2. Exercise, join a hiking or biking club.
3. Get Busy, no dead time, go out and help people or better yet get a 2nd job, meet people, "family" is completly overrated, good friends are priceless.
Good post.

I'm on a drug that changes my mood but it's also used to treat depression. After a breakdown I had in May I went to see my personal doctor and I just told him how I was feeling and how I felt like I needed to start seeing a psychiatrist to feel better. He told me that psychiatrists are good but they'll just end up giving me a pill he can prescribe too so he put me on Citalopram.
First 2 weeks was rough as you only take a quarter of a pill, then a half then a full pill. But I was constantly feeling sick as my body got used to it. But once I did I was like a new man. All of a sudden all my worries were gone. I met a beautiful woman. I now live with her in a great condo. The best part of hte meds is that nothing ever bothers me anymore. Every worry just melts off my back and even when things DO go wrong, it doesnt get to me in even the slightest.
I'm still on the pills. Might not be for much longer though. I see the doctor again Monday afternoon where he'll decide to start weening me off them or not. Who knows though, I've been expecting him to take me off them for months and he hasnt.
Go see a doctor and ask for help. Living with depression is not something you have to do. All you have to do is try, the doctor isnt going to laugh at you or mock you, he sees this stuff all the time. It doesn't make you any less than a man to confess you need help and whoever thinks that...well who the fuck cares what their opinion is.
Good Luck.
I cannot deny Celexa (your citalopram) and other drugs like Prozac (fluoxetine), Paxil (paroxetine), Cymbalta, even Wellbutrin, Effexor, and a few others make you Not Worry/Care as much... But I have some problems w/ pharmaceutical companies persuading you on that shit, when drugs like a painkiller/mood alterer vicodin (hydrocodone), or tranquilizer like xanax (alprazolam), valium (diazepam), Klonopin (clonazepam), Ativan (lorazepam), and a few others also keep you from that same concern. The only difference is that your brain chemically changed to let more mood altering affects/drugs to effect your well-being w/out the "high" associated w/ the latter drugs which I would always prefer, and those pharmaceutical companies specifically designed drugs not to "stone" you
You are getting the same effect, just w/out the enjoyment of "feeling high" and that seems to me as the common scam drug companies have come up w/ to allow their drugs not to be considered as "controlled"....I guess if it works for you then I cannot denounce the product, but they are all basically getting you "stoned", w/out the positive "addictive" assets of the others I mentioned... .I doubt you read 1 label that says it's ok to quit the shit w/out 1st tapering down and having a md's order to quit the product completely....I'd rather be "stoned" and enjoy life on another product rather than live in a fog as a result of the drug that just keeps things OK...I guess 2 each his own, but 1960's science is the expensive drug company's livelihood

I'm waiting for my doctor's orders because I know he knows his shit. He's the same guy who was with my mom when she gave birth to me. Same guy who has been my personal doctor for 29 years. I trust him immensly. A bottle of 60 pills costs me a whopping $15 every 2 months.
I don't live in a fog at all. I'm still the same guy I've always been, I just don't get bothered by stuff anymore.

I didn't knock the mood enhancers entirely, I am sure they work, I've had a lot of patients end up w/ positive results, but what I'm saying is that MD's get their info from Package Inserts and Pharmaceutical Literature....Not that it's not trustworthy, but for me I'd just assume get a little "stoned" when taking the product...Getting a "good-feeling" isn't the end of the world, but by big drug companies trying to appease the FDA they have to prove "feeling-good" is secondary. Like I said TO EACH HIS OWN but I have a problem w/ the restricted meds made available to enhance your mood, I personally would prefer a xani/ativan/valium even Vicodin (which can improve well-being feelings) or similar shit that makes me feel good and creates the same "less worry"...Today that has been frowned upon by Lilly, Merck, GLAXO and others...so a lot of products may help you, but I'd personally prefer to get a buzz out of it, rather than worry if the FDA accepts me taking it...I won't get into a discussion about the FDA and some of their politically driven beliefs

Not trying to move into your conversation but wanted to say that I receive Vicodin from my doctor. When I first was prescribed them I use to drink nightly to alleviate major back spasm pain and neck pain. Since then I've quit drinking(maybe one or two every 4 months) and am happy I quit. I also think that w/o the vic's I'd be likely to snap and rip someones head of. They not only help with pain but calm me down just right with a slight high. I've been pissed having to go out somewhere and so I take half of one before I go... by the time I get there I am social. They really do help more than just for pain but I am greatful that they really block some of the pain as prescribed.
I've also used Wellbutrin but don't like it at all and refuse to take it again. I do receive some Lorazepam for severe days and I try and save them for times when I can't sleep and my mind is getting out of control and thinking about 1000 things at the same time. It's the only thing that works during those times and lets me fall asleep. I've tried everything else... even all together... you name it... sleeping pills with nyquil tabs with vic's with cyclobenzaprine with etc,etc and nothing worked, but the Lorazepam for those times. I really don't like taking meds at all but the flip side would not be beneficial for those who want me to stay around. If not for my wife I would not have lasted this long.

Man, I guess a whole bunch of us are pretty messed up. Back in the 80's and 90's it was cool to be a guy with problems and an emotional side and kinda depressed and mysterious. Whatever happened to that? Girls actually used to find guys like that hot. Nowadays its like society just wants everyone to be happy and noone has any problems and if you do have serious problems well then just take some medication and get over it and just be a happy person. Ok yes I am depressed but I got 1,000 reasons to be that way. I am not some millionaire who has everything who is depressed. I have got real problems that would cause someone to get depressed. I don't need a pill to make me feel better about my shitty life and problems. I would rather be depressed until I actually am able to turn my life around and not be depressed about it anymore.

I've been in a rut for 8 years. Hated the job i had for seven years, finally got a new one, it's a little better but not much. Busy all the time and in debt.
One thing I know is gambling is NOT the answer. Cutting back on gambling is a great first step. Think I'm gonna do that P90x thing so i can at least get in shape and feel a little better about myself by the time summer rolls around.
P90X is pretty intense. If you don't already work out a lot, you probably won't be able to handle it - and more perceived 'failure' is not going to help you. Start small... work your way up.

If you were a millionaire you probably would be more depressed or dead right now. Lose that fascination with money, fuck it, find other things that make you happy. If you can do that, you can start saving more, and start chipping away at your debt.
Like I told ProtoStar - you don't have to pay off all your debt to be happy. You just have to take the first baby step in a long-term plan. Once you start making progress, you will feel 100X better, that's how these things work. People who weigh 400 pounds don't have to get to 150 to find motivation - when they get to 380 their whole life starts to turn around because they realize they are on the right path. Brainstorm, and come up with a path that is right for you. IMO it has to involve exercise, something to help you with your perspective (whether that is counseling or feeding homeless people once a week), and something to take less time away from using unnecessary money (for example, the first 2 suggestions)
When are you going to be on here posting something good? Not tomorrow, because it sounds like you aren't off to a better start yet today. So it probably won't be the day after either... and so on....
Make the change now and prove me wrong. Do something new today.

When are you going to be on here posting something good? Not tomorrow, because it sounds like you aren't off to a better start yet today. So it probably won't be the day after either... and so on....
Make the change now and prove me wrong. Do something new today.
Fuck that last sentence - don't do it for me - do it for you.
Step 1 is finding a little belief in yourself. If you don't believe in yourself no one... NO ONE else will.
When you're depressed that's a tall order, but like I've been saying, it's ALL about perspective. Instead of saying 'fuuuck I just don't feel like doing this right now' you need to challenge yourself. If you can't get yourself to go do something take a step back from it and think..... am I seriously telling myself I can't go run a fucking mile? I can do it right now? Hell, I can do it in 7 minutes. GO. New perspective - make it happen.

I should add that I have some allergies for certain drug ingredients, that's why he chose what he did.....

You need something to keep your mind off things.....try golf. Its just as addicting as other things but it eases your mind. Even when you suck. Now, after you start playing good its unhealthy i will admit, pisses you off cause you know you can play good but just not "today". But, i did this when my marriage was falling apart and it helped me tremendously.. Pills??? no thanks.. just another thing to have an excuse for. Best of luck

I was on my high school golf team, didn't golf at all once I graduated, and now when I go out I expect to be Tiger Woods and instead I golf like Sarah Palin. I'd love to be able to just enjoy the outdoors and relax but it drives me fucking CRAZY!!!!! No golf for me. I'm gonna have a heart attack on the green like the guy from Entourage.

Bro are you not reading the thread.... Leggy doesn't need pills. He needs Girl that doesn't stress him out and makes him happy , a good long run and a joint ......pills would turn leggy into proto and we dont need that train wreck. I am not saying medication doesn't help. Just not Leggy IMO. I am not a doctor though, maybe of some one in this thread is a psychologist they can help.
