And the filly got a 107.
Lots of ways to read this I suppose. The pace wasn't fast by any means and Chrome went by them like they were tied to a tree.
It was pretty much a blink of an eye for him to open up 5 lengths, so he bested the field by 7 lengths quite quickly. So, his speed rating for that 1/8 of a mile is likely off the chart.
Certainly wasn't his best race but he beat 18 other horses.
With some of the decent horses that will be going to the Preakness, I'm guessing his odds will be around 4/5.

Victor Espinosa down played his own role in the race. However, his tactics were masterful. He waited for just the right second to pass the first tier, which, then, quickly fell apart.
It was at this time when the mid-packers started to break down allowing Commanding Curve and Wicked to move up.

I think there are valid points both ways.
If I am a CC fan, I don't love the comments from Sherman today (basically saying they are only going to the Preakness because they have to...he said CC was tired and two week turnaround is not something he would ever do, even for 10k claimers).
But he didn't run his best race and still beat 18 other horses.
Too many times in the last few years, Ive seen Derby winners fail to fire, and I'm a little nervous about it happening again.
