Wow...Thrilling and somewhat surprising Preakness results.
Wayyyyyy to early to figure who can win The Belmont. I haven't watched the replay yet, but read the chart. The way Senior Investment--3rd place finisher-- (went from 9that the half pole to 3rd) and Lookin At Lee--4th place finisher--(10th at the half and 9th at the 3/4), perhaps we need to take a good look at them in the Belmont--assuming they run.
Gunnevera finished 5th and looked much better than his Derby run. However, he came out of the 6 post and stayed in 6th place until the top of the stretch where he was third before getting passed to finish fifth.
Multiplier also made a bit of a charge at the end to finish 6th.
So what do you think????

Just read Senior Investment and Looking at Lee are definites for the Belmont. Classic Empire maybe, Gunnevera off till the summer.
I couldn't agree more with your post about ADs racing tactics, baffling. The track definitely changed a lot for the last 2 dirt races, the Sir Barton didn't even have fast fractions and No Mo Dough was flying late. I hope No Mo Dough runs, he looks good but he ran Derby Day and obviously yesterday so running in the Belmont may be a little out of the norm for Motion so if he does line up you'll know he's ready.
It's sucks there's no Triple Crown bid i love the build up for it but that usually means a nice size Belmont field with good opportunities. Plus the rest of the Belmont card is outstanding that day and we may even get Songbird in the Ogden Phipps.

BARBER....glad you saw the same thing I did about AD's tactics. When he got out, I groaned when he jumped to the lead.
PHIL.....I think if they put Always Dreaming in the Belmont, they're nuts. As all of us know, the Triple Crown series is grueling on a three-year old....like playing 4 Stanley Cup final games in 5 nights!
Based on how he finished in the Preakness, no way I am putting AD in the Belmont. Problem is that the owner's egos are longer than the Belmont stretch. Before yesterday's race, they were already talking about the "big party" they were planning during the Belmont.
If AD goes to the Belmont, they might kill the horse's chances for his path to the Breeders Cup, which will fetch more cache' for his future breeding rights than winning the Belmont.
I think I am a bit surprised about Gunnevera not going to Belmont. On the other hand, while he was better in the Preakness, he hasn't been good. Another horse that could make some serious stakes money, if he gets right.
I have mixed feelings about Gormely going to the Belmont. However, at the 1-1/2 miles distance and an honest pace with few closers in the race, he might have a shot.
I love the Belmont chatter, boys. It's my next favorite race after the Kentucky Derby.

mikey.. belmont stakes i love, pletcher will have someone there, hope it isnt always dreaming....chad browns loaded, timeline 3-3 winner of peter pan, practical joke not exactly dead yet,and this cloud computing.. lets not get ahead but he loves saratoga...forget that stuff about how strong the 3yr olds are. oh and we forgot baffert who probably has some bullets for this summer..
the derby and preakness are over but for the real fans of the sport some really good racing begins now.. .stick around mikey ..

Good points, Phil. There are 4 or 5 who might do Belmont that we've forgotten about.
I like that Brown is taking a week to decide if he'll put Cloud in the Belmont. From Pletcher's comments this morning, he is totally baffled about AD's poor performance.
I'm no Shug McGuaughy, but let's start with putting the horse out front to to run .23.1 with Classic Empire and Cloud Computing's noses to behind-crack!

Yes...I think both of you guys are correct. I am a Leparoux fan, but on true closers, not those that need to stalk or stay near the lead. I think Pletch totally overestimated this race.

The Preakness reminded me a whole lot of the 2015 Travers where Frosted did the dirty work pressing American Pharoah and Keen Ice was there to pick up the pieces. Yesterday same thing CE did the dirty work on AD and Cloud Computing pick up the pieces... know what those races have in common? Javier Castellano was the one with his horse in perfect position to win, he is the best IMO. Yesterday i feel like he handicapped that race perfectly, kept his horse just close enough to give him a chance late.

Lanerie did absolutely nothing to justify losing the mount. Assmussen grasping at straws, horse is a complete toss for me my early leans are Tapwrit and Meantime

For LAL and CE this will be 4 races in 8 weeks, hard to imagine them being ready for a top effort especially at 12 Furlongs. CE has the class to hang around but I don't think he wins. I like the way Tapwrit finished up the Derby after a rough start, he's fresh and when Pletcher points horses to the Belmont they usually fire.

Lookin At Lee seems like a classic plodder to me. He just clunks along and picks up the minor checks.
If I use him it will be underneath somewhere.
I think I have this stat correct.....Lee is 11/2-3-2 with $943,000 in purse money....not exactly "minor award" status. His CD is .3.40 and DI is .77....not "plodder" numbers.
He has a great shot to win the Belmont. As much as like Lanerie, after thinking about it, the switch to Irad at Elmont makes big sense.
