 Once again, my whole problem with trout is people think he's the goat baseball?? You can't be the goat of baseball if you own the Major League record for striking out 7 times in a row. You can't be the goat of baseball, if when he retires, and he's nowhere near 3K hits. He will have 3k strikeouts, but not close to 3K hits. You can't be the goat of baseball if you can't win one playoff game. Do you realize over 13 years how many times Trout has underperformed by either striking out or popping out and his team loses. He's not a clutch hitter. He's not a leader.  Ken Griffey Jr struck out 77 times per year, Gwynn 21 times per year, Altuve 65 times a year, Frank Thomas, 70, Willie Mays 70, chipper Jones 74. And last but not least. The best all-around player in my opinion right now, mookie Betts, 73 k's per year. Trout K's 105 per season. That's hideous numbers, not goat numbers. He was leading the league in k's last season before he got hurt. That's not goat numbers, leading the league in strikeouts isn't goat numbers. Anyways, I have my prop bet again for today, "over 1 strike out " for Trout. You know the dude will strike out at least 1 time, so I will either push, or win. My sportsbook will probably stop offering this prop. I'm getting it while I can. GL

 It's funny you mention Mookie Betts, because before I saw your post I was going to mention there are two players in LA (maybe 3 if you include Shohei) who are better overall hitters than Trout.    Mookie & Freddie Freeman.  Including Shohei, these 3  these guys are hitting machines that also hit plenty of HRs.

I would agree that the game has evolved, but I would disagree that about extra base hits.  Some  players are too caught up in "launch angle" bullshit and looking to hit a HR on every at bat.  That's Mike Trout today, and w/ Shohei's absence now on the ballclub, I can only imagine maybe he feels the pressure to hit more HRs ?    Trout used to be a 0.300 hitter just a few years ago ; those days are long gone w/ his approach to hitting and way too elevated SOs. 

Orel Hershiser on a recent Dodger telecast made reference to that hitters should approach hitting with different clubs ( a golf reference).  Not every occasion calls for using the Driver (eg. Mike Trout), when a 3 or 5 Wood hit in the gap in certain situations (eg. Betts & Freeman) would do sufficient damage in a specific situation.  Trout seems to have only 1 club in his bag these days, while these other great hitters know when to choose a different club,  make contact,  and put the ball in play.  

The sample size is really small in this young season, but out of 4 hits thus far, 3 are HRs...  I hope nothing but the best for Trout, because I'm a life-long Angels Fan, but I've seen enough of him over the years to see things are not going in the right direction.  

I have no idea how many HRs he hits, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him hitting 0.250 this year, horrible by his standards..

 Could be right but all those hof pitchers had one or two guys that just got them everytime. See piazza clemens. Maybe he would strikeout alot i dont know but to think he would be over matched is a stretch in my opinion

 You my friend are a true Angels fan. You know a whole lot more about the angels and Trout than I do. I basically know Trout averages 116 hits a year, and 105 K's a year. And I also know Roberto Clemente has 3000k hits, a number Trout won't come close to doing. Clemente averaged 167 hits a year, and only 68 k's per season. Are those numbers any good????? Mike Trout wishes he had those numbers. And people actually think Trout is the goat of baseball. Clemente faced koufax, Drysdale, Gibson, seaver, Ryan. Were those guys any good??? I appreciate your honesty and knowledge about the angels and especially Trout. I'm a Rangers fan, but good luck to you anyway. Lol. And yes, Betts is a better hitter than Trout. Before I sign off for today. Read this for everyone who thinks Trout is the goat of baseball. Trout, averages 116 hits per season, averages 105 k's. Roberto Clemente averaged 167 hits per season, averaged 68 k's per season. Are those numbers any good? And Clemente had to face seaver, drysdale, koufax, Ryan, Gibson. And he had 3K hits. Something Mike Trout won't come close to having. Were those pitchers any good? Mike Trout is nowhere near being the goat of baseball. And that's my problem with all you guys. Well, besides the true Angels fan on this thread who makes sense.

I have to stop reading this. I truly feel like I'm in the Billy Madison movie and this guy is Billy. How many players in the HISTORY of baseball have more MVP awards than Mike Trout....? The answer 1, Barry Bonds. Your fasciation with strikeouts is one of the funnier takes I have ever read.  This guy you hate so much is top 50 all time in WAR already, has 3 MVP awards, finished runner up 4 additional times, and undoubtedly deserved at least a couple of those when Miggy won them. His last handful of years have been ruined by injuries, and hopefully he comes back healthy this year and we will see where he ends up. But the guy has never in his career finished lower than 5th in MVP voting in a season he was healthy in. This hot take that he isn't a great player is one of the dumbest things I've honestly ever read.

Stating he is injury prone or something along those lines is fair at this point, but outside of that he is an all time caliber player. The championship argument in baseball is equally as ridiculous as the strikeout argument. Baseball is a team sport, more than any other. Trout has been on awful teams basically his entire career. But by your logic here are some others players who aren't very good: Barry Bonds, Ted WIlliams, Griffey, Gwynn, Yaz, Carew and a ton of other hall of famers who never won a title. 

So in conclusion, if you forget about the MVPS, the top 5 MVP finishes, the WAR, the 9 Silver Sluggers, the homeruns, the steals, and the quality defense in centerfield, and look at his strikeouts..... you are right he sucks. LOL

Also one more non stat related note, dude plays the game the right way. Always hustles, doesn't taunt opponents when hitting homeruns, runs hard on the bases, has never thrown his teammates under the bus(Even though they are the reason for his lack of post season play), plays the game with passion, signs autographs before every game, he is exactly the kind of player/role model you want on your team. Your misguided hatred for him is just beyond strange. There are plenty of asshole players out there in professional sports that deserve the hate, but a dude who has the numbers, awards, and career Trout has had is an odd choice....

 Whenever you want to answer my two simple questions, I'll be waiting. I personally think the goat of baseball is a tie between Willie Mays and Greg Maddux, Roberto Clemente a close second. Mike Trout not even in my top 15. I have no idea why people think Trout is the goat of baseball. Trout wishes he had Mays, clemente, the Big hurt, Maddux, ( equivalent pitching stats ), Bonds, griffey jr, Gwynn, Jeter, ( championships, hits, etc ), Pete rose, guys numbers just to name a few. Trout won't come close to 3K hits. He won't have 2300 when he retires. That's not the goat of baseball numbers. You can't be the goat of baseball if you can't even reach 3000 hits. And I don't want to hear injury excuses. If you're the goat of your sport, you don't get injured. Ask Tom Brady, lebron, michael, Gretzky, Mahomes, mays, Maddux, messi, Ronaldo, the Joker, Roger Federer. But please answer my two simple questions? Do you think Trout is the goat? Pete Rose averaged 224 hits and 60 strikeouts per season. Now that's a baseball player. That's a Hall of Famer. Trout averages 116 hits, 104 k's. That's ridiculous. Trout wishes he had Pete Roses numbers. I'll rest my case with that. 

If these pitchers are so great are so great who are pitching right now with their velocity, sliders and spin rate. THEN HOW COME NONE OF THEM WILL BE IN THE HALL OF FAME?????!!!! I thought the goal of a major league pitcher is to win 300 games and be in the Hall of Fame. But according to you guys, pictures who are playing now, all they want to do is pitch one inning, 3 times a week. Let's see how many Hall of Fame pictures Mike Trout has faced to the season? I will tell you! ZERO. But according to you guys. The pictures are far superior now, then they where in the 90s. Yet ZERO of them will be in the Hall of Fame. Only Verlander and Scherzer. That's it.

After verlander, Scherzer and Kershaw, there won't be any more pitchers elected to the baseball Hall of Fame. But according to you guys??? Pictures are more talented and better now with the velocity, spin rate and sliders than guys in the 70s 80s and 90s. Yet there won't be anymore Hall of famers besides those 3 guys. And Mike Trout sucks against those 3 pitchers. Look at his stats against those 3 guys. Trout strikes out against mediocre, Minor League pictures. Much less Randy Johnson, Bob Gibson, Tom seaver, Nolan Ryan, Clemens, Kevin appier, Kevin Brown, Mario Rivera, Billy Wagner, smoltz. And yet people think trout is the goat of baseball?? Mike Trout hasn't been offered a contract? You have to be free agent to be offered a contract by other teams . . . . . The overall stuff of pitchers in the game is better . . .guys coming out of the pen now are way better overall than the days Mays played . . . the game is different . . . but there will be fewer hall of fame type careers because so many pitch an inning at a time . . . . but its tougher on hitters seeing premium type stuff from so many different guys . . .Im not an angel fan at all . . .but the fact is ....Mike Trout is 12th all time in o.p.s  ahead of Willie Mays . . and Frank Thomas . . .so yes they are very comparable . . . and as overall players Trout and Mays are very comparable as they can run and play great defense too . . . . why you dislike Trout so much is strange . . . Tony Gwynn was a great hitter. . . but not a power hitter . . .so his incredibly low strikeout numbers don't really fit in the conversation . . .Trout is a big run producer . . a 300 hitter with power that is rare. . . . and he walks a bunch so he won't get as many hits either. . . .Gwynn reminds me of Rod Carew . .who I grew up watching as a Twins fan.....loved Pete Rose too...but again . . .he was not a power hitter to go along with his average like Trout . Baseball is an impossible sport to pick a GOAT in. The game has changed so radically over the years. You can make a case for many players, but they also have cases against them all.

Babe Ruth- Would probably be one of two I would consider. He hit 714 homeruns when the top person before him had 138. He played in huge stadiums, and was also a great pitcher. However He didn't play against the specialized relievers of today, and obviously didn't play against players of color or any other Japanese/Cuban/Dominican players.

Barry Bonds- From strictly how he dominated the game its hard to argue against bonds. Those years during his homerun chase were must watch TV. I've never seen a guy harder to get out in my life. All the homers and all the steals is pretty nuts. The big cloud for him is also the steroids. Funny enough he was on his way to being an all time player before them but he took them and that taints things.

Trouts story hasn't been written yet. As of right now do I consider him the GOAT? No. Injuries have definitely put a kink in that just as they did for Griffey. Trout still likely has 7 or 8 years left if he can stay healthy so we will see where he ends up. But having 4 or so season crippled by injuries/COVID in the middle of his prime will def hurt him when its all said and done. Prior to all that people were saying he could be the goat because the pace he was on was insane. Like I mentioned before the MVPs and top 5 were nuts. The injuries def hurt him but if he can stay healthy he will be a first ballot hall of famer and definitely in the conversation amongst the best to ever do it. But his final story is far from written. He could have injuries plague the rest of his career and he will "Just be" a normal hall of famer....haha

No one thinks Mike Trout is the goat. You repeat this time and time as if anyone has ever said this. Trout is a certified first-ballot Hall of Fame player who played on bad teams his entire career. He made a lot of money, which was well deserved based on how great he was for most of his career before injuries and age slowed him down. He's an all-timer and not overrated in any way, shape or form.

He committed suicide with his career some time ago by staying with the Angels....they will not surmount to anything during my lifetime and it's a shame because Trout is a very good player....

Mike Trout 2024 update. 20 hits, 18 k's. Just wait, in a few weeks, he will have more k's than hits. And people think this guy is a great baseball player??? All he does is strike out. Just watch. This will be 5 seasons in a row that he will have more k's than hits. And people actually think this guy is great. Willie Mays never accomplished this??? Frank Thomas never accomplished this? Mike Trout is the most overrated player in any sport at any level.

Mike Trout update. As of 4-23-24,  21 hits, 21 k's. .236 avg. And people actually think this guy is the goat of baseball. He's horrendous, this is hilarious. And once again, this will be his 5th season in a row that he will have more k's than hits.
