Kev - actually, I have a similar thought, but break it down a little bit differently. If you look at the people who've gone with the MIB, they've had bigger misfortunes in the "other world."
Man in Black's Team:
Sayid: Told he could see Nadia again, but can't have her.
Sawyer: Never finds the man responsible for swindling parents. Charlotte doesn't take him back.
Kate: Still on the run from the law
Clair: TBD
Jin: Arrested and tied up by the mob, still a horrible relationship with Sun.
JACOB'S Team:
Jack: Better relationship with son, kicked alcohol.
Ben: Got his favorite student into Yale, feels good about himself.
Hurley: Successful businessman that uses his money to help others.
Seems like whoever is on Jacob's side makes out better in the other world.

Looks like it's not going to be some crazy twist in the end (not that there won't be surprises). I think it's pretty clear that Jacob is good and MIB isn't. As usual, I'm better with questions and random thoughts than I am with answers:
Note that Sun had a "mirror" moment, while Jin (as far as I recall) did not. The "mirror" has been featured prominently in all of the LAX timelines. I have no idea why.
Sun also cut herself. Been lots of small cuts recently. I have no idea why.
It strikes me as interesting that MIB doesn't have a name. Jacob does, but when we hear people talk about MIB, we never hear a name. That's got to mean something. Maybe MIB/Floke isn't bad, but what's in him is.
Note that Floke said Kate's name wasn't on the cave wall "any more." Why not? I thought you got crossed off when you were dead. She doesn't appear to be. I think Kate's name was still on the lighthouse wheel, though. If Kate still is a candidate, and Floke lets Clair kill her before they leave, that's going to be a problem for Flokey. Maybe Kate "saves the day" by being dead.
It seems like the people on Jacob's "team" turn out better in the end than the one's on Smokey Floke's team. Jacob's folks seem to have redeemded themselves. The others, not so much.
