when Rob Roy (Liam Neeson) carves Archibald Cunningham (Tim Roth) like a turkey with his Claymore. it's one of the BEST "payback's a bitch" scenes in ALL of film.
I don't think there is a Tim Roth character in ANY of his movies that I don't want to see DEAD. something about the guy just makes me fucking HATE him even when he's supposed to be the "hero"

nonononono, i loved christopher walken in true romance.
when i think of this topic, i think of characters that are super annoying or just make your skin crawl. weasely types like the dude who killed the mouse in the green mile.
christopher walken was just a badass. imo.

So what your saying is as long as a murderer is charismatic that makes him a bad ass? OK

no dude, that's not at all what i'm saying.... we can both be right here i guess. we simply have a different opinion on what the intention of the thread is.
i think you are taking it as the classical antagonists, murderers, etc...
i took the question as the characters in movies you love to hate. the characters that are annoying, that make you feel uncomfortable, that sabotage, that double cross, that make you feel like you want to punch them in the face.
when i think of walken in true romance, while he is a murderer/a bad guy, to me he's not the character you just hate. i loved his character, thought he was very interesting (doesn't mean i promote murder or advocate violence).
for instance, jay mohr's character, bob sugar in jerry maguire is not a violent man but i fucking hated the guy. he's disingenuous, he's annoying, he's awful. in the context of the thread topic, i love to hate him far far more than walken in true romance.
respect your opinion though.

yeah that Professional a very underrated movie...J Reno a great
badazz.....Gary Oldman awesome bad guy
for me the criteria is....if you saw the guy out somewhere....would you
look at him and want to kick his ass ?.....meaning he did such a great
job that it had a lasting effect....and yeah maybe another thread idea
would be evil characters that became likable ....in a way...like Anthony
Hopkins as Hannibal Lecter.....
my top 5
Andy Robinson as Scorpio in Dirty Harry
Jason Issacs as Col Tavington in The Patriot
Doug Hutchison as Percy in The Green Mile
Dwight Yoakum as Doyle Hargraves in Slingblade
Kevin Bacon as Sean Nokes in Sleepers
* man i did HATE James Cromwell in LA Confidential....gotta re-watch Rob Roy.....also Chris Cooper very nice dickhead in The Bourne Identity ...
The impediment to action advances action - what stands in the way becomes the way.

IF we are talking about the 1961 Paul Newman vs Jackie Gleason classic. Rod Steiger was NOT in the movie. you could have him mistaken for George C Scott as Fast Eddie's "bankroll loanshark" Bert Gordon.
bookieassassin's list is OUTSTANDING.
I forgot about Jason Issacs as Colonel William Tavington in "The Patriot" who is based on the real life Banastre Tarleton of the British force "Tarleton's Raiders" during the American Revolution who was a murdering bastard. also Kevin Bacon as the homosexual rapist guard Sean Nokes in Sleepers. was great to see ALL those guards get their's in the end of the movie.

Adolph Menjou as General Broulard is a nasty bastard for sure BUT George Macready as General Mireau, who orders his own artillery to open fire on his own troops trench to force them onto the battlefield, is ten times worse.
not ANY real "hero" in this classic anti-war movie not even Kirk Douglas as Colonel Dax because he doesn't stand up to either Mireau or Broulard, either over the ill planned atack OR the "kangaroo court", "cover your ass" court-martial, until the very end of the movie. about the only possable "hero" is the French artillery commander who refused General Mireau's order to fire on his own troops trench. everyone else just "goes along to get along".
