all of IRON MAIDEN and ARMORED SAINTS  albums
MERCYFUL FATE- they are denmarks finest band with great guitarists
MOGG/WAY-edge of the world
SCORPIONS-lovedrive
MANOWAR-into glory ride
too many out there but UFO and IRON MAIDEN are my favorites for 28 years

I know my opinion is biased, but you have to give it to "Dark Side Of The Moon". It spent some 700+ CONSECUTIVE weeks on the "Billboard Top 200" list............over 200 more than the 2nd place album (Johnny Mathis)...........& over 1600 weeks on the charts, period. That's over 31 years!
 
 There are many great albums out there...........but only a few are as timeless as "DSOTM"............& none purchased so consistently over the years.

All above are worthy... I'd throw in Back in Black.  I saw Highway to Hell mentioned, which was really good, I just think Back in Black took their music to another level.
 
Frampton Comes Alive is really good too.
 
Hey I know its wayyyy out of style now but MJ Thriller was an amazing album.  (braces for hating)

if we are going with any genre, I might have to say Kind of Blue by Miles Davis... but all of these listed here are arguable... this is a tough question... my brain hurts... SO MUCH good music out there...

Myself? I'm gonna go with albums that just made my jaw drop, and just had to buy more
 
First album I ever bought: Hendrix:Are You Experienced? Man, had some crazy ideas about guitar, that's for sure. And they all worked. Just amazing.
 
Van Halen: You cannot listen to Eruption go into Pretty Woman without realizing you are listening to the next Big Thing in guitar. The whole album is not great, but when you heard Eddie, you knew this was different, just like Jimi........
 
Obviously, I'm old (53).
 
Also not a hiphop master, but I'll give a shout out to Digital Underground: Sex Packets. Title track, Humpty Dance, and living near Oakland made this one a favorite.

I thought about Are you Experienced? as well... what a revolution in music... to this day, 3rd Stone from the Sun remains as one of my favorite, if not all time favorite melodic progressions... I hear what you are saying about Eruption, and Eddie will live forever as a guitar master, but Jimi's melodic soul is second to none....

I doubt that anyone reading this thread has never heard 3rd Stone, but if you haven't..put it on, close your eyes and just marvel at the genius of Hendrix.... brilliant!

Hawk.........it's impossible to nail down the best album ever. I'm a fan of so many artists that I don't want to dis any of them. I agree with you about Hendrix............I enjoy that album as much as ever. I still enjoy "Hi infidelity" & "Rumours" & "Rocks" & "Physical Graffiti"(close 3rd to WYWH for me)...........too many to name. Hell, I still enjoy Ted Nugent: Ted Nugent from time to time.
 I think that you & I can agree that most of the best rock ever produced came from the late 60's to the early 80's..........very few after that.

 Can we all agree that the greatest albums of all time were created between 1968 & 1980?

I wish that I could... but I have to say that Nothing's Shocking by Jane's Addiction is one of many released after the aformentioned era that belongs at the top of the list... I'm afraid that there is no easy way to simplify this... great music continues... and that is a good thing... also, what about The Soft Bulletin by The Flaming Lipps? Ahhhhh.... the list goes on....
