so you dont think Chiefs offense had some so-so games? look at Denver, Jacksonville, Baltimore and LA Chargers. 3 of these games were at home. the same Jags team you bring up - Mahomes had 0 TDs and 2 INTs on that Jags defense lol the irony. If Bortles doesnt throw 4 INTs in that game it might of been lot closer. if Denver or Baltimore didnt choke in the 4th quarter, the Chiefs record would be 10-6. if those 3 teams had more competent QB play then they would have won like the Chargers did in Week 16.

2011 N.O avg. 34.7 ppg

2011 G.B avg. 34.1 ppg

Of course having a top Offense helps!   But so does having a great Defense........

2012 S.F. 18.2 ppg, 2013 Sea 14.6 ppg, 2014 Sea 16.3 ppg, 2015 Denv 17.9 ppg, 2016 NE 16.4 ppg, 2017 Phil 18.2 ppg.

All went to the Super Bowl.

 

You can find stats to back up almost anything.  What are these teams as of TOMORROW?  That is what matters.  This Chiefs Offense has zero to do with what Tom Brady & Randy Moss did.

Fact is...the Chiefs D is not as terrible as so many make it out to be.  The stats on that D are skewed in large part due to the Chiefs O...with an assist to SOS.  By actually WATCHING their games, this would be evident.  The eye test helps the stats make sense.

I didn't say anything about so-so games I said they had no Bad games.  The offense was still able to generate over 400 yards of offense.  At this exact time, the Jaguars were the number 1 defense and were 3-1.  A playoff team and favorite to win the AFC.  And yet Mahomes and the Chiefs still didn't have a bad game.  2 ints big deal.  They still moved the ball at will all game long. 

 

As for the rest of your "what ifs...."  bla bla bla.  3out of 4 losses came on the road against playoff teams by a combined 7 points.  The Chiefs could easily, easily be 15-1.  If they had the Colts joke of a schedule they would easily, easily be undefeated, no questions about that.  

 

You are pretty clueless at times:

1. Jaguars at that time they faced the Chiefs were not only the best defense in the league they were 3-1 and considered to be favorites to win the AFC.  [MAHOMES STILL MOVED THE BALL AGAINST THIS DEFENSE UNLIKE LUCK WHO COULDNT BEAT CODY KESSLER]

 

2. Ravens when they faced the Chiefs were again the best defense int he league and Mahomes still moved the ball at will.  You act like Chiefs winning a comeback against the best defense isn't MORE impressive than just flat out winning.   [THE COLTS WOULD HAVE GOT SHUT OUT BY THE RAVENS GUARANTEED!]

 

You clearly haven't seen too many Chiefs games or Colts games for that matter.  Statistics mean nothing if you can't properly interpret the information using various metrics such as your own eyes for one.

 

Colts = Vastly overrated.

Chiefs = Vastly underrated.

You are simplifying things.  PPG means nothing without context.  Defenses can and do generate points.  You need the more metrics in order to differentiate the truly prolific offenses from the rest.

Chiefs are the second most prolific offense since the 2013 Broncos.  This is easily verifiable if you look at the 3 key metrics below.

And all this without 2 of their major weapons for the last 5 games in the season.  

 

1999 St. Louis Rams: 32.9 PPG; 272.1 Pass YPG; 122 Big Plays

2007 New England Patriots: 36.8 PPG; 295.7 YPG; 99 Big Plays

2013 Denver Broncos: 37.9 PPG; 340.3 YPG; 116 Big Plays

Huh? ZERO bad games? So handing away a home game against the Chargers was ok? I don’t care if it cost them or not.....Finishing games like that is gonna cut it? Especially when their coach is known to give games away late? That game hasn’t created any breadcrumbs going forward as to what KC could put forth? Again, I’m not picking on KC but to think they are dent  proof and haven’t had their issues....that’s ridiculous. The Texans suck. The Colts? Please don’t put them in the same category. When I said bad game I meant for the offense.  The offense has never been stopped once even though they faced the top defenses and top teams.  Meanwhile, the Colts scored 0 vs Cody Kessler......

Your hypothetical won't even matter.  No Chiefs game will be close.  All those games were on the road.  Defenses don't travel especially the Chiefs.  As far as the Chargers game that was an anomaly.  An outlier.  They were up 14 in the 4th.  That is a win 95% of the time.  That won't happen again.  Rivers had to make throws that were ridiculous.  You might say yeah but Rivers can do that again.  Sure.  But Chiefs have Sammy Watkins now.  All those last 5 games defenses could just double Hill.  Not anymore.  Chiefs don't score less than 35 moving forward.   No team in the AFC can keep up.  Only Rams/Eagles and maybe Saints.

Wow. I guess we heard it here first then. Should we just give KC the trophy right now? A ONE DIMENSIONAL TEAM....Sure they can get better on defense but from what weve seen in 4 months.....KC defense is average at best. You make it sound like there is no need to continue on in the playoffs. Your stance is loud and clear Chief. Enjoy the playoffs bud.

Do you have to act like a DICKK to get your point across? but hey i ain't gonna stoop to your level man just because i don't agree with you doesn't mean you have to get all defensive about it and act holier than thou

anyway, i have seen my share of Chiefs games and a few Colts games but they aren't on the air as much. from what i've seen on TV correlates with the info i have. I respect the Chiefs offense, i am not knocking them. i've said it before that they are an explosive offense, probably the best since 2013 Broncos and more impressive that it's from a 2nd year QB. Even on their worst days the Chiefs offense would still be better than most average NFL offenses, but to say the Chiefs offense has been perfect and have met their normal standard of excellence for a full 16 games is full of shitt. If they were this damn good they would have bested the 2013 Broncos by now. Mahomes would have broken Manning's season season TD and passing yard record.

My concern isn't the offense, but on the defense. the Chiefs will put up their points there is no question about that. but doesn't the defense of the Chiefs worry you one bit? I've seen the Chiefs defense the past couple years now and it's still absolute trash. Blake Bortles put up nearly 150 yds passing on that defense and drove down the field without their #1 RB before that game became a runaway, then another 250 yds in garbage time. Keenum threw for a combined 500 yds and 2 TDs and let shittyy Broncos offense score 23 pts in each meeting had a chance to win both games. the real kicker  is letting Derek Carr throw for almost 300 yds and 3 TDs and Raiders almost came close to beating them while Chiefs were coming off the BYE where Andy Reid usually blows teams away with two weeks to prepare. like i said the Chiefs benefitted from playing some crappy QBs that turnover the ball alot. their SOS is only slightly more tougher than Colts. 

You act like the Chiefs are one of the best defenses in the NFL and you'll make an excuse for them saying their numbers are bad because played alot of top offenses. sure that may be true, but if their defense was that good they wouldn't be giving up as much as points now would they?  If the Chiefs go one and done again or if they don't make it to the Super Bowl. i guarantee you Bob Sutton is no longer going to be working on that KC sidelines ever again. his defense has failed the Chiefs one too many times. The Chiefs are going to have to get a real DC, again.. since we like to compare this team to the 2013 Broncos.. just like the Broncos from 2012-14 they had too many one and dones in the playoffs because they had a lousy defense. had to make some coaching changes. they went with Wade Phillips as DC and the rest is history. i don't think the Chiefs need to make drastic changes and replace Reid too, but  if they want to go to the Super Bowl then they have to get rid of Sutton.

Let’s think about what each team is gonna want to do tomorrow ok? I say this because I feel there is a common denominator in both teams approach. 

The Chiefs can’t stop the run, right? Yes....that is correct. So should the Colts line up tomorrow and throw and push the ball down the field OR should they move the ball on the ground knowing they SHOULD be able to move the chains? Also.....the Chiefs have the worlds greatest offense ACCORDING TO SOME IN THIS THREAD, so why wouldn’t the Colts want to run the ball, control the clock and keep that offense off the field? Common sense? To me it is.

As for the Chiefs? Their defense sucks so tossing the ball down the field rather than TRYING to be balanced (Andy Reid has shown that he struggles being balanced)? Is that a good idea knowing that if they score quick their defense will be on the field a lot? See.....we know Mahomes can throw the ball but can the Chiefs be disciplined in running as well? This controls the clock, keeps the crowd in the game and it magnifies the mistakes that could happen. The mistakes that maybe the Chiefs could cause being that their defense would be a bit more fresh if they ran the ball from time to time. 

I see the total as 57....IF this game is anywhere close to that, it favors KC but with the approach of running the ball which is what I feel both teams should do, this game could go under and if it does, that should favor Indy. Talking about strength of schedule is moot in this particular game. Why? Because Indy CAN be the perfect team to expose KCs weaknesses. Whether they’ve beat crap teams or not, they’ve played well the last 2.5 months of the season and then when you throw in a better defense by far, a better o line by far and a qb that just keeps coming with a play caller who called plays for last years Super Bowl...to say Indy is overrated and has zero chance here tomorrow is ridiculous. It’s uneducated. I’m not tilting the needle either way here. What im doing is telling you what I feel both teams will try to do and IF INDY more so than KC takes the approach or running the ball and controlling the clock, their chances of winning increase drastically imo. If Indy tries to get into a shootout, I feel KC would want that considering they can score at will. Mahomes is ONE guy folks. Can the KC defense all the sudden ball out? Sure. They’ll need to if they want to advance. Can’t wait.

You are who you are at this time of year and over the years I’ve really only seen one team recreate their identity on the fly. That team has been the Patriots because they have the best coaches and they have the best qb. I’m not saying here that the Patriots are the team to beat here but what I am saying is that all the other teams are who they are. Look at my Bears. Great defense but lost mainly because of a bad field goal kicker. Us Bears fans knew that and when we needed it most, we got what we got all year all thrown into one missed field goal. Not really a surprise for us. So how does this fit into tomorrow’s game?

To think that all the sudden the Chiefs defense will become world beaters in the playoffs...it could happen but it most likely won’t. So with that Reid will have to come up with an approach to offset that. One would think running ball has to happen yet since Hunt went out, they’ve not been good. Also IF the Chiefs are going places, their special teams will have to be the best every game going forward and they can’t turn the ball over. You can’t do that when you have the worst run defense in the league. I don’t care if you are at home or not. There are three phases to football and if you lack one at this time of year, you are in trouble. For me, if KC is to win, they will need to be very good on special teams (field position, tackling, no penalties and making kicks) and they’ll need to win the turnover battle. Bad defenses rely on other teams making mistakes so KC will need to create those. If Indy ties or wins the turnover battle and they are able to run the ball, KC most likely loses tomorrow. Again, it’s an intriguing game because of the qbs but it’s intriguing because Reid will have to do something he’s never really done in the playoffs and that’s be balanced, manage the clock and expose the oppositions weaknesses. Can it be done? H@ll yeah it can be done but it won’t be easy imo. That week off could be exactly what KC needed. Play coming tomorrow AM.

achilles, i think the Chiefs could be able to run the ball on the Colts rush defense, they have given up considerable yardage per carry but opposing offenses haven't done it enough. Damien Williams has done a decent job filling in for Hunt. Of course it will come down to the playcalling.. and clock management. that has always been one of Reid's blunders. If Reid decides to run the ball a little bit more and play the clock controlling game then it's game on. it's going to come down to the redzone. i see both offenses having no problems moving down the field: 1st down, 2nd down, 3rd and long, 3rd and short doesn't matter but in the redzone with shorter field it's going to come down to which team scores more TDs and less FGs that decides this game. the early indication to me says the Colts defense will do a much better job in the redzone

Also.....the Chiefs have the worlds greatest offense ACCORDING TO SOME IN THIS THREAD, so why wouldn’t the Colts want to run the ball, control the clock and keep that offense off the field? Common sense? To me it is.As for the Chiefs? Their defense sucks so tossing the ball down the field rather than TRYING to be balanced (Andy Reid has shown that he struggles being balanced)? Is that a good idea knowing that if they score quick their defense will be on the field a lot? See.....we know Mahomes can throw the ball but can the Chiefs be disciplined in running as well? This controls the clock, keeps the crowd in the game and it magnifies the mistakes that could happen. The mistakes that maybe the Chiefs could cause being that their defense would be a bit more fresh if they ran the ball from time to time. I see the total as 57....IF this game is anywhere close to that, it favors KC but with the approach of running the ball which is what I feel both teams should do, this game could go under and if it does, that should favor Indy. Talking about strength of schedule is moot in this particular game. Why? Because Indy CAN be the perfect team to expose KCs weaknesses. Whether they’ve beat crap teams or not, they’ve played well the last 2.5 months of the season and then when you throw in a better defense by far, a better o line by far and a qb that just keeps coming with a play caller who called plays for last years Super Bowl...to say Indy is overrated and has zero chance here tomorrow is ridiculous. It’s uneducated. I’m not tilting the needle either way here. What im doing is telling you what I feel both teams will try to do and IF INDY more so than KC takes the approach or running the ball and controlling the clock, their chances of winning increase drastically imo. If Indy tries to get into a shootout, I feel KC would want that considering they can score at will. Mahomes is ONE guy folks. Can the KC defense all the sudden ball out? Sure. They’ll need to if they want to advance. Can’t wait.

Achilles, every single week since week 2, the opposing team's plan is the same.  Run the ball and play the control the clock game to keep Mahomes on the bench.  Every single week, this strategy failed.  There is zero shot the Colts will do that.  At the end of the day, the Chiefs defense is still top 2-3 on 3rd downs.  So they do regardless get stops.  If the Rams scoring 50+ punted at least twice in that game, how many times do you think Andrew Luck at Arrowhead will punt?  Plenty.

The Chiefs offense is the best in the world. No doubt about that.

But the mystery is will the Chiefs defense have a hard enough time with the Colts offense that they'll hang right in there with them? 

I think that very well may be so, Colts with the points seems the stronger play.

Even if tchamps is right and the Chiefs defense is tough for a while I see them wearing down and giving up a lot of points late. Will it be enough for the Colts to cover or were they already down too much?

I’m sorry but have I seen you cap games all year? Do you have a record? Do some research before you start puffing out your chest man. You are 100% Pro Chiefs which is fine but at least acknowledge the Chiefs and their weaknesses. 

Also, This ain’t my first rodeo....You’ve been here for two months..... I respect your stance but I’ve heard what I needed from ya Chief. You denounce all of the weaknesses of the Chiefs which is dangerous at this time of year. Doing that won’t get you too far at this time of year. AGAIN, UNLESS REID LEARNS FROM HIS MISTAKES IN PAST DEBACLES, THE CHIEFS CAN GET TO LUCK AND THE CHIEFS CAN STOP THE RUN, this will be a tougher game that you think. You seem to think the Chiefs have a cakewalk going forward. They could but again that’s only if we see some changes in their approach and their defense. That’s common sense. We get it.....you like the Chiefs. We got that on the first page in here. My opinion is that Kansas City's defense is better than people give them credit for.
Are they a top end unit?
Absolutely not!
But make no mistake.... they have improved as the season has gone on.

Special teams an advantage for the home bunch.
Hill is electric.

A hot Colts team against the #1 seed in the AFC , the Chiefs and all anyone is talking about, is the way Luck and the Colts have been playing lately.

Reid off of a bye, at home and his team is being disrespected like this?

The thing is this can be similar to the Chargers game where it looks like KC is going to crush their opponent in the first half. Their defense even looked pretty good for a long time. 

But then the 2nd half comeback begins, they fall apart late. I can see something like that on a grander scale this game. Andy Reid teams already had a huge tendency to have this happen in the past and seeing that happen in a big game once again earlier this year is not a good sign for the future.

Andrew Luck is a guy who can certainly pull off a miracle comeback, or at least come close and cover.

All I want to say is that the Chiefs are 1-10 in their last 11 post season games AT Arrowhead. That is amazing considering some of you think it is the hardest place to play. LOL. It will get cold and club level fans will go inside. I know, I have been there. Chiefs might win but I am taking the 5 as their D is terrible and will concede a score late in the game while up two scores.
