For me....this is the most intriguing matchup of the weekend. Are the Colts for real? People look at the beatdown they gave the Texans BUT were the Texans maybe the most overrated team in the league? Maybe. Or are the Colts underrated? See....this is the real question that needs to be answered. The Colts have been on fire and one could argue that aside from Mahomes, Luck is the most valuable player in the league. Throw in the fact that his o line gave up the fewest sacks in the league, throw in an extremely underrated tight end who had double digit TDS this year and throw in the fact that Mack, since being healthy has been just as good as the elite names everybody knows. Best o line? They have a top 5 red zone offense as well and their play caller has been there before.
What about Indy’s defense? Most improved this year? I’d say they have to be right there when you look at how this team can tackle and how this team is solid practically everywhere from the d line to the back end. Best field goal kicker of all time? I’d say so and with my Bears losing because of this, it now factors into the equation with all the teams who are left. But.....the Colts go on the road to arguably the toughest place to play in the NFL....Arrowhead....
How bout the Chiefs? What’s not to like here. The tight end in Kielce, Hill, they brought over Watkins who COULD be a factor Saturday, their line is very solid...what about that run game though since Hunt has been out? Can it take the next step in the playoffs where the run games are magnified? We’ll see.....
You have the BEST special teams coach in the NFL in Dave Toub yet what about that defense? See this is where the game will be decided. The Chiefs don’t have to be a great defense Saturday but can they get pressure against a very good o line? Can they get a few stops? Berry is back but is he to where he needs to be? Lots of questions where on the other side, Indy not as many.
I love both these quarterbacks. They will both play very well but again, whoever can get that occasional stop in the red zone and whoever can take care of the ball....that team will win. Mark my words here as well: Special Teams WILL play a Huuuuuge role in this one too. The edge there goes to KC....but again....can we trust their defense to get to Luck or to stop the run? We keep hearing all the talk about Andy Reid and how he hides in big time games. Well....with a week off, this game being a home game, is this the game where he puts it all together? Is this the game where he finally manages the clock? Is this the game where he actually runs the ball and somewhat keeps the attack balanced? Finally....is this the game where penalties don’t play a big role in the outcome? KC has been hosed big time in recent years in the playoffs. Also....If people don’t think the AFC WILDCARD matchup a few years ago where Indy came back and won 45-44 isn’t in the minds of KC players and coaches, you are nuts. What’s the difference here? It’s in Arrowhead and they have Mahomes. Two huuuuuuge differences.
The time is now for KC.....but is it Indy’s time now? Not sure. Indy has almost 100 million in cap space next year and they have 9 draft picks. That’s insane given their offensive line is built, their qb is healthy and their defense is doing what it needs to be doing. Saying Mahomes will be nervous? I’m not buying that. If Russ can win as early on as he did with Seattle, no reason why Mahomes can’t.
Indy = better defense
KC = better offense
KC = better special teams
KC = home field advantage
KC= week off to prepare
Indy= better offensive line
KC= better coaching but it’s closer than people think
KC= more experience
Indy= more momentum going into this one
Right now....many are liking Indy with the 5 points but if you’ve watched this KC team, they can score and they can score in bunches so for me, the 5 looks great but it may not be enough with a rested KC team. Any thoughts or insight welcomed. All the best.
