3-1 yesterday with Detroit tonight.

Unfortunately, the guy who is winning went 5-0, so it sure looks like everyone else is playing for second place..

If Detroit wins, I will be tied for 8th with 10 picks to go, and be 3.5 off of 1st.

Thanks guys....

Went 3-2 last night.  According to my calculations - this leaves me tied for 11th with 10 picks to go.  Unfortunately - the guy who was winning went 5-0 this week - so I am now 4.5 out of first.

To the guy who said "fade the Hilton" picks - I think you would be very poor if you faded the top 50 for the last 5 weeks or so.  The average has been very high.  If you say fade the whole contest-  maybe that has been working - but the top 50 week to week have been doing very good.

I guess out of 1,050 people, I should be happy with 11th place - but I gotta be honest - I have some thoughts that I would rather be 500th than so close and not do it.

So heres hoping I can get lucky and have a good stretch run - if for nothing but my sanity.

good luck, I am also in the contest ,no chance of coming in money Got off to a real bad first 5 weeks.  Is there a $15,000 prize for the most points for the last  three weeks.  I did get 5 this week .Took 5 road teams, Seattle. SF, Arizona, Baltimore and KC.

That is a ton of ground to make up. 


Also, have you been betting all the Hilton picks on the side as well?What is your record in the contest right now?

It appears you would have made a healthy profit if you just played every pick straight up, contest or otherwise.

Why I would never enter such a contest is that I cannot find five good picks a week. I can barely find one or two and sometimes none. And you are required to pick 5 every single week. That is too much to ask for 17 weeks.

I mean come on, the leader in the contest goes 5-0 this week???

He's in Vegas. Ya gotta think he's hooked up with a Billy Walters type at this point and is giving them a share of the winnings for their picks. I'd find Billy if I were leading the contest in week 15.

Van, I know you want to get into the money, but after this week your record should be 44-28 for a winning % of 61.1 . That's something to be extremely proud of.  Not my intention to be nosy but are you a veteran of this contest? If so, how do you account for the fact that the current leader has a winning % of .676 , and when the acclaimed Fizzek won his back-to-back titles his winning % was only in the 54% range for both seasons? That represents a huge difference which puzzles me and maybe you can provide an answer.

It is not winner take all - the top 30 get paid - see below for amounts.  I have been betting my picks....  I think I am 44-28 right now (with 3 pushes).  It has been a good season.

I have similar problems - I often have a lot of trouble picking the last 2 or 3 games.  

The leader did go 5-0 this week - which is pretty incredible.

This is my first time in the contest!  It was always a bucket list thing for me - and I was in Vegas at the right time this year to join and participate.

I think that the increased percentage is simply a matter of many more people than when Fezzik won 2 years in a row.  When he won - there were 328 and 350 people in the contest in the years he won. This contest has 1035.

So if you consider every game a 50/50 proposition - statistics would tell you that the more contestants you have - the higher the certainty that one of the participants will have a higher and higher score.  If there were a million people in the contest - somebody would have 80%.

So I dont think that the contest is easier now - or any other reason than more people are playing.

Thanks for the nice words - I am happy with the season - I hope I win the next 10 and come in 3rd or so and get a fat check.
