Us Raven fans knew there was no way that Bishotti (sp) was giving him that kind of dough with all things considered.Well, a lot of us any way.

Now OBJ is asking for $20 million a year. A 30 year old WR who did not play last season off a torn ACL delusional like action Jackson.. why would anyone give him a guaranteed salary.
NFL = Not for long. U sign that 1st big contract extension the 1st chance u get and hope u get to the 2nd one.

cant compare obj to jack. obj has been washed for a couple years he clearly showed he's lost a step a few years ago just like russell wilson showed a few years ago and how denver didnt see that is beyond me. its one thing to get injured while still prime another to get injured when youre not elite anymore. it'd be like a washed chris paul getting injured compared to booker, paul recovers from injury so what youre still not elite anymore, booker comes back from injury and youre still good he's still prime playing at an elite level.

Raiders sign Jimmy G...They are out of the Action Jackson Sweepstakes...No Collussion... The market is shrinking for Action Jackson..Who's left? Commanders/Colts/Falcons? He should apologize to the Ravens and save face and sign that extension..

I heard a rumor about 49ers being a possible trade spot.. but not sure how that will work. Trade Lamar for Trey Lance and a couple mid picks? Uh Ravens do we want Trey Lance...?

No one wants this guy for anywhere near the money he wants. He's injury prone and he's just not an accurate passer. A lot of people around the league think he was well enough to play in the latter part of the season but he didn't want to get hurt and blow a shot at a big payday.

I'm starting to think that if he refuses to play for BAL, there's a chance that LJ's career might effectively be over. I'm not saying he won't play again - he could easily spend another 5+ years in the league, but I'm starting to think that moving forward, he's not going to be a superstar or play for a team that's willing to build their entire offense around him. I could easily see him ending up with some team where he shares the QB duties, something like in a role as a wildcat option. Then the question becomes, is he willing to be that role-type player instead of a franchise leader? The guy turned down $133 million in guaranteed cash. A team isn't going to pay him $40 million a year as a part-time QB. Would he even entertain the idea of playing 20 snaps a game for $15 million/yr, or would he rather retire?
I know this sounds ridiculous to some, but I really think if LJ doesn't have a deal done by the draft, he's gonna be somewhat left blowing in the wind as teams are moving forward with other players and game plans. Most of the teams that entered the offseason in serious need of a QB are clearly making other plans that don't include LJ.
He needs to hire an agent, ASAP.

If I was the Ravens I'm not sure I would even what him back at the reduced rate.Who needs a disgruntled player walking and moping around with an attitude, who isn't happy cause he thinks he's not making enough money. That's not the guy I would want leading my team.Hell he's already quit on the team once by not being around the team during the playoffs, and he's shown that he thinks he comes before the whole team.I don't think it's gonna turn out good for the Ravens unless some other team signs him this off season.

It's actually the opposite....Right now is free agency....So a team would have to clear all the Cap space needed and then have the money available to put into escrow -the fully guaranteed amount if its $200 Million..a team has to put that up in Escrow......then make an offer sheet...then Balty has 7 days to match or accept the 2 1st round picks...So it basically puts a team on hold to clear cap space or to not be able to sign new free agent players for 7 days. Fak that..All that just so Balty can end up matching or you have to really over pay to make sure Balty would not match...all for a guy who has been injured and missed 1/3 of his games last 2 years...and is Running QB.......
Really so as time passes..less and less team will be able to make an offer if any as they will have committed to their QB and signed new free agents or given out extension to their own payers and used up all their cap space. Then when the draft comes...the remaining QB needy teams will have drafted their QB's...So the market is really limited for Action Jackson based on his ridiculous demands..He basically priced himself out of the market....It would be different story if he was willing to accept a reasonable contract.

The issue with the owners is the fully guaranteed contract Jackson wants. The contract Watson got sort of set a precedent and the NFL owners are pushing back on that.
The issue with Jackson is not so much him being injury-prone or his accuracy or his lack of playoff wins. But it is his inability to read defenses. He has not shown the progression that is normally seen by this point in a QB’s career.
There is a myth, or at least an over exaggeration, about the running QB being more injury prone. It is not completely true. You absolutely have instances of it. But, by and large, the injuries come from getting slammed to the ground while passing. Off the top of my head — so, may be slightly off — the injury rate is about 1 injury per 97 drop backs and 1 injury per 92 runs. There is some additional issue with designed runs versus scrambles but they involve the style of QB more. A normal ‘running’ QB fares better in scrambles than a ‘non-running’ QB does. I have not looked at every injury Jackson got and how he got it. But he was very durable early on and I know they were teaching him how to slide and avoid contact and injury, etc.
But, by and large, a QB is injured while throwing, or attempting to throw. Maybe some of Jackson’s injuries came doing this — I am not sure. I think last year and late last year was an outlier — I think he could have been available. I think he was disgruntled AND that is a whole other issue.

With a run-first QB, there are many things that need to be taught that a pass-first QB already knows. They have to be taught proper progression reading. It is no longer just one read and if it is not open take off. This is especially true as a running QB gets older.
A prime example of this would be Cunningham. As he got older and slower and more injury prone he actually got much better at reading defenses later in his career.
This is a different skill-set than a QB that is pass-first BUT can run. For example, Young and Wilson. The running part is an additional skill but not their first choice.
Then you have the guys that are designed to scramble to extend plays or create — like Wilson or Mahomes. They already have the progression reading down.
But when you have a one-read-and-then-run QB like Jackson you have to teach this. Jackson has not been taught this — or does not have the ability to learn it. I would fire the QB and/or the OC, since they have not done this AND it is their job. That is, if I were going to keep Jackson. If not — let Jackson go.
You absolutely cannot dismiss the fact that Jackson is a winner. It is a total copout and disingenuous to look at his playoff record. Look at how many QBs have great contracts and, even some injury issues, that do not have many playoff wins. Prescott -2, Cousins -1, Goff -2, Tannehill-2, Ryan -4, Stafford -4. Of course Ryan and Stafford had one good run to get to SB — otherwise they are just like Carr or whoever you want to pick.
The bottom line is it is hard enough to GET to the playoffs; it is considerably harder to WIN in the playoffs. Every QB is not like Brady, Mahomes, or Burrow.
So, you have a team that is built around Jackson’s talent that is a perennial playoff contender. He is a proven winner that has dynamic talent but needs work and his injury proneness may be overrated. What do you do if you are the GM/coach/owner? If someone makes the offer do you take the #1s and get a QB and revamp your offense — knowing there is probably a 90-95% chance you will NOT get a QB that wins like Jackson does? Or do you talk him into taking concessions on the guaranteed part with incentives? Then if you do — HAVE someone work with him to teach him to read defenses.
By definition, you are facing better and more elite defenses in the playoffs and he has to learn more of the QB passing skills.
Certainly, on the open market, he is not worth the number guaranteed that he wants. BUT to the Ravens he might have to be. If they let him go, they are almost guaranteeing a rebuilding — and, very likely, a GM and coaching staff out of jobs.
Whether they like it or not, he has them close the edge of the barrel, if not completely over it.
The fans like Jackson and there will be an uproar if they do not sign him and then go to losing. This is one of the top fan bases in the league.
With all of that being said, I am not a Jackson fan and think he has peaked and I would not pay him that amount. But there is a lot that says you ought to try to get him close to a number both parties like.
For example, you have to ask how many QBs are really, truly better than Jackson? It is a very QB-centric league.

I completely agree with you about LJ's inability to go through progressions. I'd also add that he's not very good at reading defenses. DCs are figuring out LJ's weaknesses, and I think his middle of the pack stats over the last 3 years are the result. When he first came into the league, defenses didn't know how to contain him or force him into making mistakes. They do now.
LJ is a crazy good athlete and he's spent most of the last 15 years relying on his athleticism to bail him out and overcome whatever shortcomings he has in his game. But at this level, it's not enough.
I'm not very familiar with the BAL fan base. Do they really love LJ at this point? After he seemed to quit on them last season? After his ridiculous guaranteed contract demands? The guy is bringing turmoil and drama to the team, you'd think at some point, the fans would turn on him for that. However, I have heard quite a few stories about LJ's community involvement in BAL - he does a lot in that city and that goodwill is definitely worth something.
There's definitely value in winning games. And there are plenty of teams in the league that would love to go 11-6 every year and make the playoffs on a consistent basis like BAL. But at some point, you've got to get over the hump, get past the first round of the playoffs and make a run. And BAL hasn't been able to do that with LJ under center. Which is why he's not worth anything close to $250 million in guaranteed money. Hypothetically speaking, if LJ had led BAL to the AFC championship game in 2021 and the SB this past season, BAL probably would've given him everything he asked for. But he didn't. And they shouldn't.
I think most of the owners think the Watson deal was absolutely ridiculous and they are pushing back hard on that precedent. I also think these same owners are pushing back on the deal the Panthers gave to Matt Ruhle a couple of years ago, which turned out to be a terrible choice for the team. Paying unproven guys huge sums of guaranteed money is just bad business, be they coaches, players or whatever.
I don't think LJ has the Ravens over a barrel at all. He doesn't have an agent and he's in over his head when it comes to negotiating a deal. And 2023 will probably be somewhat of a rebuilding year for BAL anyway, with or without LJ. If BAL is going to go in a different direction, this year is as good as any to do it.

Yes, I mentioned that his biggest weakness is not being able to read defenses. I do not think the staff has put in enough with him on this and they need to do this or they need to be fired. They are getting paid great money to do just this!
They lost a flukish game to Miami in the 4th after leading 35-14 going into the 4th, but only lost by 4. Lost to BUF by 3, lost by 4 at NYG, by 1 at JAX.
Then with Huntley, lost by 10 @ CLV while scoring only 3 points, then lost by 3 to PIT, then back to back losses to CIN.
I do not think that is a team that needs to rebuild at all.
After allowing 42 to MIA and 26 to NE in NE they allowed 24 to NYG and 22 in TB on a last second TD, 28 in JAX, then 27, and 24 in CIN.
To me that is not a defense that needs rebuilding. They keep the games close and do not give up a lot of points — even to playoff teams and elite QBs, like Allen, Brady, and Burrow.
So, the rebuilding could be on offense.
Scored 24 against the Jets defense, 38 against MIA, 37 against NE defense. Then after reasonable games, Huntley had to come in after Jackson started 3/4 and they only scored 10 points against DEN. Then beat PIT, but only scored 16 with Huntley, but that is a big rivalry. Then, with Huntley, only scored 3 in CLV.
So, with Jackson they were averaging 25/game and afterwards they averaged 13/game.
So, the rebuilding would have to be on offense AND it would have to be a NEW QB and NOT Huntley.
OR it would have to be adding some better options for Jackson to work with. Besides Andrews, they do not have any top-tier skill position players and maybe not even above mid-level. They had WR injuries, but very much need to upgrade here. Do they make Dobbins the RB going forward now that his knee is healthier? They need to get a better backup QB as well, Huntley is not the answer.
I haven’t kept up in detail with off season and what they have done so far.
But they need to work it out with Jackson and figure out how to make him understand they cannot give him that amount guaranteed. But they do need Jackson. He is a proven winner and they only need a few more parts to really improve their offense. BUT the staff has got to work on developing Jackson with his defensive reading and his progression reads.
Bottom line is that as a team that is a solid contender there are not but 5-6 other QBs they would prefer.

Yessir. Like I said they have to get him some more tools! He also has not got the ability to throw open a WR as much as he should have by now. But they need to get him some help. That will keep him from deciding to take off after the first read, maybe.

Washington Commanders signed Jacoby Biscuit to a 1 year $8Million fully guaranteed contract.. They have Sam Howell as well who they like. They are pretty much out of the running for the Action Jackson sweepstakes other wise no way they sign Biscuit...
Atlanta just signed Taylor Heineke and are going to roll with Desmond Ridder...and Indy signed Gardner Minshew...

Once somebody says "Never going to win a title" as part of their argument, they lost the argument. Football is a team game, and he'll win a Super Bowl if he's on the right team at the right time.
