Escape from LA , and the hell days ,

here can say things haven’t been shuffled under the rug ? for far too long ? and that it didn’t add to the trouble ?
and to the mix ?

"You guys all voted for Karen Bass, the mayor of Los Angeles. You all voted for Gavin Newsom, and now you fucking get what you get. now that your house is on fire. So here's what's going to happen.
All these people who are deep blue Democrats are now going to have to pull a permit to rebuild, and they're going to get the 28 year old bitch from the Coastal Commission telling them to go fuck off and then they're going to vote for Trump or whoever's Trumpian next.
When they start getting the regulation, they're going to go nuts. And when they start running into the bureaucracy and the red tape, they're going to start going nuts and they're going to vote for Rick Caruso next time. They're going to find out they're going to get bit by their own snake. They're going to convert.
I am telling you, these are the bluest people on the planet and they're going to be fucking rip shit pissed when the City and the Coastal Commission tell them to fuck off. We're going to have to restructure the whole thing because we can't have nine angry lesbians controlling everything that goes on in Malibu, the Palisades and Santa monica."

Priceless video on what all those not-poor residents will be trying to deal with GOVT...maybe, they'll realize GOVT isn't their friend
Good luck Gruesome Newsome...still an absolute tragedy...watch out neighbor states...many more Californians are DONE now with this ?!$?!$ hole..

It's a perpetually drought stricken state. This fact has shaped the very existence of the place for, at minimum, the 4 decades I have been alive. Its vast. It's mostly rugged forests or dry chaparral scrubland.
Too many people live there. It's a recipe for disaster. No amount of legislation would change that.
This is what I see Stu. From July 1, 2023 to June 30, 2024 most of California received heavy rainfall. https://ggweather.posthaven.com/2023-2024-rainfall-season-in-review-and-comparison
With all that rain you get plant growth surge. Remember the Southern California wild flower super blooms?
Then from July 1, 2024 to now LA area had very low rainfall. 4% of normal. https://ggweather.com/seasonal_rain.htm
So all that vegatation from last spring now dried up material. Add annual Santa Anna winds and who knows the source of ignition, BAM, big fires.
Don't ya think this is so obvious a problem that it should have been addressed a few months ago? An ounce of prevention...............
The LA fire dept budget cut by $17.6 million? That was a 2.1% reduction, not really that big of deal IMO, just bad optics.
The DEI hires? It most certainly can erode the performance of any organization when you put gender, gender preference, or race at the top of your desires rather then the best individual for the job. No brainer.

The major communication error here is not the fire that burns down everything, its the lack of oxygen in the air
you can stay to hose down your roof but if there is no gas mask with o2 tanks you will die
I want to watch Rudy since ND just won but maybe Backdraft would be a good choice also
stay safe Cali

According to water department, Los Angeles has plenty of water. Problem is widespread fire overwhelming system not designed to fight fires at hundreds of houses. Due to high demand, water could not be replenished fast enough at hydrants that need high water pressure to work in hilly areas. Fires damaged pipes and pumps. Impossible to arrange enough water in advance. Disaster has nothing to do with state efforts to protect fish ecosystem or water restoration declaration which doesn't exist. Normally, fire fighting helicopters are used but strong winds prevented air support.

Stop it…..
We had many wildfires and the water was never cut off.
stop trying to spin that …. Democrats are taking another L and trying to spin the truth won’t work.

The following bombshell headline demonstrates that liberalism is a men*** dis*****! Oregon sent The City of Angels 60 firetrucks to help put out the raging fires! The 60 trucks have been ordered to submit to a DOT inspection in Sacramento at 430 this afternoon! If the very late, great state of California passes the brave trucks from Oregon. They will then be able to drive 400 miles to the Pacific Palisades! You can not possibly make this up on one's best day!

Water tanker trucks used in these fires average about 3,000 gallons. Some could be larger, but it takes 15 minutes to fill 3,000 gallons on normal hydrant pressure, so a 6,000 gallon tanker will take roughly 30 minutes to fill. Thats 29 minutes too long right, these tanker trucks need to refill the fire trucks on site so the fighters can work continuously. One 3,000 gallon tanker can top off 3 firetrucks in a group and go back down hill to refill. In a perfect world the fire truck hooks direct to a hydrant.
This is the biggest logistical nightmare of a forest fire, these tankers which are 150% necessary to be on standby are always private truckers because FEMA can't dot i or cross t. The private sector will always outshine in these areas. This fire timeline from the hills down to evac was 8 hours give or take, in the hills it was maybe an hour. Leave with nothing.
I seriously hope that post above about Cali DOT and the extra firetrucks from Oregon is not accurate but nothing would surprise me at this point. Were these 1950 parade fire trucks?

@ thirdperson.
Joe Biden alleged electric utilities caused the fire hydrant outages.... He claimed for a second day on Friday that electrical providers cut off power to the pumps that flow water to fire hydrants....The President of the United States of America aught have the best information on the situation and know whats going on..According to the President it was not because of high demand.
Tell me who are we to believe you or our President ?

@StumpTownStu
I am not sure @SarasotaSlim is saying that, as ,such as saying President Biden said it:
"What I know from talking to the governor, there are concerns out there that there’s also been a water shortage," Biden told reporters. "The fact is the utilities, understandably, shut off power because they are worried the lines that carried energy were going to be blown down and spark additional fires. When it did that, it cut off the ability to generate pumping the water — that’s what caused the lack of water in these hydrants."
But they say in LA they will not do this:
A spokesperson for LADWP told Fox News Digital that in the absence of a public safety power shutoff protocol for Los Angeles, it has a different procedure in place to reduce fire risks while continuing vital functions. The spokesperson said that Los Angeles's urban environment is different from the environments that other California utility companies serve.
"LADWP worked closely with the Los Angeles Fire Department to develop this emergency protocol," the spokesperson said. "LADWP's plan is audited every 3 years by an independent third party and is submitted to state regulators as required."
But, in the past, according to the Journal, LADWP has asserted it will not proactively shut off power ahead of heavy winds.
But for sure it has been done and was done in some areas. So, maybe Biden misspoke or was misinformed. Or, maybe he meant CA in general and not LA, in particular:
A “life-threatening and destructive” windstorm is forecast to last through at least Thursday, bringing with it severe fire danger and widespread power outages across Southern California.
This is the third time in as many months that strong Santa Ana winds have prompted Southern California Edison to cut power to its customers.
The map below shows which areas are currently without electricity due to planned power shutoffs — aimed at reducing fire starts from electrical equipment — and which are under consideration for power cuts.
An absolute mess for sure.

Cannot believe there were not backup generators in place at critical water pumping stations. Especially in a high risk area like LA county.
Probably because you have to excercise those units weekly and OMG, diesel emissions!!!

@sundance
I still have a lot of family and friends there and understand the issues.
But this has really turned into a disaster. There will be plenty of 'blaming' going around.
Sad to say, but I think a lot of things all came together and made the worst predictions that we have been hearing for decades come true.
Hopefully, there will be some 'changes' made for the future.
Sad for all of the lost property and belongings. Sad for the families that have lost folks.
But it is very amazing that more folks have not died, thankfully.

@Raiders22
I misread my bros post. Californian utility companies absolutely cut off power in times of high wind, and even during active fires. I believe this started with PG&E after being hit with massive lawsuits alleging that their power lines caused fires. Now rolling black outs are the norm for many Californians when winds pick up.

Absolutely, they got hit massively by the suits.
But it cannot be blamed wholely on old infrastructure, or even, faulty ones.
People that have not experienced these winds and dry conditions do not realize what little spark it can take.
The electric companies are really put in a difficult spot.

What Biden said in conference call with Newsom and Bass;
“I know you’re getting a bad rap about ‘these fire hydrants don’t have enough water in them.’ Give me a break. Give me a break."
What this is all about is the utilities, understandably, what they did is they cut off power because they’re worried about these high-tension lines coming down and causing more fires, right? And when they do that, guess what? They shut off the power that controls the ability to pump the water."
This is complicated stuff. You’re going to have a lot of demagogues out there trying to take advantage of it, but you’re doing the right thing.”
“LADWP water pumps and water flows were not affected by power outages,” a spokesperson said, with the entity explaining that, in fact, “the tremendous demand for water in the Palisades, which was four times as much as our normal demand in the area, lowered the water pressure.”
Southern Cal Edison added that “we have had no issues from local water agencies or firefighting agencies in our service area” and that “they are prioritized to remain in service” during emergencies.
So Biden's statement was totally false and neither Newsom or Bass corrected him. But Newsom did say this;
We’ve gotta deal with this misinformation. There were hurricane force winds of mis- and disinformation, lies. People want to divide this country, and we’re going to have to address that as well.”
Do ever think Biden will realize he was spewing disinformation?

I have a lot to say about the subject of fire and Californiaonce I take care of a couple things but those lawsuits weren't just in my opinion. And just like home owners lose insurance coverage due to the prevalence of these fires, utility companies also have insurers. And said insurers are like, "You have to do something." And power outtages was their solution. I don't blame them but you have feel for, let's say your best friend, who gets hit with a rolling blackout in 100+ heat with new born twins.

And I will circle back and say again; LA County had about double the average rainfall from Jul 1, 2023 to Jun 30, 2024. This accelerated plant growth which then dried up as rainfall since July 1, 2024 has been 4% of normal. The obvious danger was there, what preventitive measures were taken?
Understand fighting brush fires in very high sustained wind almost impossible. Preventive measures like clearing fire lines, etc would have given them a chance.
How much money they throw at it or how much they take away is far less important than what did they actually do to prepare for such an event.
