Florida judge blocks DeSantis "stop woke" act, calling it dystopian for violating first amendment rights of students and teachers. Education is necessary for a healthy democracy.
Let me help you with that.
The law prohibits teaching or business practices that contend members of one ethnic group are inherently racist and should feel guilt for past actions committed by others. It also bars the notion that a person’s status as privileged or oppressed is necessarily determined by their race or gender, or that discrimination is acceptable to achieve diversity.
The Obama appointed judge then called college professors, "priests of democracy" as if they have some sort of religious status.
This temporary injunction will not last long.

hey Mid...could you do us all a favor and actually articulate what your "Don't say gay" Desantis proclamation is about? If it is such an issue then I'm sure you will be able to accurately outline what exactly the Bill says versus what the leftist regime media portrayed. I will be happy to assist you if you need but I suggest you google "Florida Parental Rights Bill". That will give you a heads up on what the Bill actually says. You're welcome
On a related note.... If your 9 year old "needed" to be taught about what a "blowie behind the dumpster is", would you prefer his/her 3rd grade teacher explain this to him/her? Or would you want to take that one yourself as the parent of your child?

Interesting take on DeSantis and 2024. My feeling is that regardless of Trump's performance, there will be too many Republicans that will want a strong alternative to Trump. I feel DeSantis will get pressured to run, even if it's not his ambition to do so this time around

You guys are funny, you think Trump will release his base to DeSantis. He's going to eat DeSantis alive and either take the GOP nomination (again), and if they don't give it, he'll either run as a write-in candidate or tell his people to stay home. The "establishment" of the GOP SAY they want to move on, but they don't realize that the whole "moving on" thing is NOT up to them.

I responded to your other post but welcome to the politics cesspool forum, good to have some new blood in here There are very few of us here that actually prefer to discuss topics and not just copy & paste BS MSNBC narratives.
It was pointed out to me by another poster that I do not "know Trump" if I think he would do something like you propose, or "release his base to DeSantis". That is true, I do not know the Big Bad Orange Man like so many others claim they do. I don't disagree with you, I can't see him just "handing the reigns" over to Ron. I also don't think RS will let Trump "eat him alive", hence he would just stay out of it unless the situation sways heavily his way. Trump is a sideshow. DeSantis is not interested in a sideshow.
Trump could theoretically blow up the entire GOP. I am a big fan of blowing up the entire political system so I guess we'd be half way there

I think DeSantis has honestly been in a rather protected area in Florida. I find it very hard to believe that he will appeal to a national coalition, but time will tell. I do think he will fall like all the others did in 2016 in the primary.
Trump is not a sideshow and I think you're fundamentally misunderstanding the situation if you think he is. He has maintained a stranglehold on (what is now, at least) the "base" of the GOP - at least, the current base. The old base would love to discard him but as I said, it's not up to them! Trump doesn't understand doing anything that isn't in his self interest, and he doesn't see it in his self interest to let the base vote for someone else. At a minimum, there's zero historical evidence to think that is a viable possibility. They are HIS voters. Not the GOP's voters, but HIS. He sees them as his property and he will never give them away. Mark my words: Trump either (1) gets the GOP nomination, (2) splits off an runs as an independent/write-in candidate to specifically torpedo whoever other than him gets the GOP nod, and/or (3) he tells his base to stay home cause the elections are rigged. All of this has been preordained since he won the nomination in 2016 and the vast majority in the GOP decided he was better than the alternative of Hillary Clinton. They bought the ticket then, and now they have take the ride as the saying goes.
There is no "theoretically" - the GOP is either Trumps, or he will destroy it. I'm as certain of that as I am of anything.

You got it ass backwards which doesn't surprise me. I've lived in South Florida since 1976 & still do. We go to Michigan in the summer because it's beautiful there & that's where my wife grew up.
As far as Florida is concerned, we love living here for the many obvious reasons tourists come here. However, we have major problems in the state. Our state run unemployment system has been broken for years & severely impacted many Floridians during the pandemic. It is still an archaic system & our politicians refuse to address the issue.
The other major issue in the state that has gone unaddressed is property insurance which is almost impossible to get for many homeowners. Our state allows insurance companies to peddle their car & life insurance but these same companies refuse to provide insurance for property. Our politicians are deep in the pockets of these insurance companies & the Governor has done nothing about the issue. Other than having 2 peckerhead do nothing Senators, we are relatively happy in the state.
We don't have an immigration border issue because the Coast Guard does an amazing job & those who slip through get assimilated quickly into the South Florida society so I don't see this changing. There are plenty of jobs available for those who want to work. It's not easy living in a red state but we don't plan on leaving anytime soon.

Judge is justified in blocking DeSantis "stop woke" act for 4 reasons. First amendment protects academic speech. Discrimination law targets conduct and not speech. States cannot censor viewpoints in college classrooms. Censorship isn't freedom. Fascist anti-freedom law is a bigger threat to liberty and American values than wokeness can ever be according to Foundation for individual freedom and American civil liberty union.

@kcblitzkrieg Fuck off with your stupid don't say gay question. Look it up. Don't be such a lazy smartass. As far as a blowie, they would learn about it in the streets where most normal kids learn about sex.
"Look it up. Don't be such a lazy smartass" There is parental rights bill that you are calling "don't say gay" because that is what the media has told you.
I asked a simple question, it could have been answered with a simple answer but you don't want to say the TRUTH because you'll be looked down upon by your buddy's Fupa, Kelly & Third. Sad.
So you really don't know then huh....pot = kettle buddy
Why are you telling me to "fuck off"??? I don't think the MODS appreciate talk like that. I was told this forum was here to discuss ideas and philosophies, not insult fellow covers members. Wally will be coming after you Darkness if you keep up that language.

Good info, insightful viewpoint there on Donnie T....thanks for sharing
That makes sense he would take the "I'll burn it down before I let anyone take it" approach you are describing. If it is gonna be a shit show and burn down a political party then I hope it is a shit show of epic proportions.

You are deflecting, you are better than this I thought.... Answer the question, or are you afraid to ??
Would it be ok if your 9 year old daughter's teacher discussed the art of fellatio with her in a classroom setting??
I mean, sex education in the classroom setting started for me in 5th grade, ya know about 12 years old not 8 or 9. But hey, thats just me, maybe you grew up differently....

I definitely grew up differently in NYC. Sex was never discussed in grammar school & I don't think it should be now. I went to a Catholic high school & masturbation was discussed by a priest in my sophomore year. Most of us had been yanking it years before the discussion. You got street smart real fast & learned from others in the neighborhood about sex. Regarding sex, the only conversation I had with my Dad was something like "You know how to do it, right? No sex without a rubber."
I moved to Florida when I was 24 & have lived here longer than any other place. I'm a Floridian. Not a New Yorker or a Michigander either.
Anything else you want to know?

DeSantis is getting the law amended that would force him to resign as governor to run for president.
He must not think much of his chances and wants to make sure he still has a job. Floridians will be paying this guy while he's off trying get a more important job, WTF?
If you're going to change the law to benefit him, why not make him Governor for life?
He hasn't even been inaugurated yet & he's looking to quit???
Sounds a lot like the POS looking to change the rules/law to stay in power.

Still deflecting I see....its OK. My initial question is still not answered but don't worry about it because you don't want to say it out loud. You called out the media's "dont say gay" description of the "Florida Parental Rights Bill". I asked if you had any actual idea of what the bill outlines. You did not answer. One, you either don't know, and in that case that doesn't surprise me as you are regurgitating the left wing narrative. Or, two, you do know but don't want to type it out in fear of being ostracized by Kelly, Fupa & 3rd.
YOU stated "Sex was never discussed in grammar school & I don't think it should be now."
By that response, YOU just answered that you AGREE with DeSantis' Florida Parental Rights Bill. Or, as you described it, "don't say gay". Which outlines no sexual education or talk of sexual nature for children in 3rd grade and under.
Happy Thanksgiving

No deflection here. I say my piece & stand by what I share.
Teachers are still making sure our kids know their ABC's as well as 1+1's. I respect teachers & the hard job they have in society today. Like in any career, there ae some that like to challenge the norm & share their views on others but that's the exception rather than the norm.
As a parent, I always asked our kids "what did you learn in school today?" Too many parents put the onus of learning solely on the education system & that's a recipe for disaster.
