I ask because I am almost certain that is the case but I don't mind being corrected on that specific point.

The prominent New Orleans-based crime analyst Jeff Asher told NBC News in an article published on Tuesday that the preliminary numbers were encouraging.
“It suggests that when we get the final data in October, we will have seen likely the largest one-year decline in murder that has ever been recorded,” Asher said.

@Zeus4par
Of course we would all love to see them fall even further this year under the Biden presidency.......well except for at least one may and his cult following, who might likely hope the violent crime rate increases and more people die!!

Violent crime is dropping fast in the U.S. — even if many Americans don't believe it
NPR -
"In 2020, [under the failed trump regime] the United States experienced one of its most dangerous years in decades.
The number of murders across the country surged by nearly 30% between 2019 and 2020, according to FBI statistics. The overall violent crime rate, which includes murder, assault, robbery and rape, inched up around 5% in the same period.
But in 2023, [under Democrat admin] crime in America looked very different!
"At some point in 2022 — at the end of 2022 or through 2023 — there was just a tipping point where violence started to fall and it just continued to fall," said Jeff Asher, a crime analyst and co-founder of AH Datalytics.
In cities big and small, from both coasts, violence has dropped!"

Yet when you ask people - particularly conservatives - about crime in the country, their perception is it's getting a lot worse.

Is that because possibly they see crime in the areas they live in and know that the laws are to relaxed and not convicting the criminals as they once did? Because that would seem to be what is happening...it's all over the news as well that criminals are getting away with slaps on the wrist which lead to no criminal violations and maybe just a ticket..this is not the world we once lived in...in my area Walgreens has shut a few locations because of theft and not being able to do anything about it because the DA's office will not enforce the laws....If I recall, this was happening in other areas throughout the country as well....I mean businesses shutting down locations because theft cannot be deterred and no help from law enforcement...why would you keep your business open...move it to online and and rid yourself of the losses...
I believe perception of there own community is key with that stat...
COVERS allows u to tell someone they are sexually frustrated so long as ur hands are clean

A Gallup poll released in November found 77% of Americans incorrectly believed there was more crime in the country than the year before.
Unfortunately, the crime rate for threatening the life of the 14th ranked US president by a criminally insane fascist/indicted sex-offender, has just risen by 100% under the Biden administration.

Joe Biden has replaced Easter Sunday with “Transgender Day of Visibility” and banned religious symbols from the White House Easter egg art contest for children, citing concerns over "hate" and "bigotry."
Happy Easter , Fubah and Co

We applaud crime being down from historic highs and pretend that crime isn't still up, across all categories, and in just about every major city? We're just going to play make believe? Crime rates are high, fellas. That is disinformation. It isn't propaganda.
Data don't lie. Overall, US crime rates peaked in the 1990s and have been declining since then. Since most crimes are committed by young people, crime rates tend to decline as population grows older. However many people still wrongly assume crime rate is high because of constant news about crimes.
