National Academy of Sciences study found that climate change is responsible for almost all of the increase in burnt acreage in California over the past 50 years. Wildfires are inevitable. No amount of fire suppression and forest management can prevent all fires. Many studies found that logging, thinning or fuel reduction cause the opposite effect, making fires burn hotter and faster. Reason is that a denser forest has micro climates that moderate wildfire behavior according to ecologist Hanson's book "Smokescreen: debunking wildfire myths..." Instead fire damages can be reduced by focusing on community safety and hardening vulnerable homes.

Himalayan glaciers could lose up to 80% of their ice by 2100 as temperatures rise, report warns
The world’s highest peaks are at risk of losing up to 80% of their volume by the end of the century with profound consequences for millions of people under worst case climate scenarios, international scientists in Nepal warned in a new report.
The report, published Tuesday by the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD), examined the impact of climate change on an area stretching 1.6 million square miles (4.1 million square kilometers) from Afghanistan in the west to Myanmar in the east.
The report found that glaciers in the Hindu Kush and Himalaya mountain range region melted 65% faster in the 2010s compared with the previous decade, which suggests higher temperatures are already having an impact.

Ice and snow in the region feeds 12 rivers that provide freshwater to two billion people in 16 countries, including China, India and Pakistan, and eventually too much water will eventually lead to too little, the report warns.
The same group published a report in 2019, which found that even in the most optimistic case, where average global warming was limited to 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial temperatures, the region would lose at least one third of its glaciers.
The group’s updated report shows those projections have since worsened.

With between 1.5 to 2 degrees Celsius of warming, the world’s highest mountain region stands to lose 30% to 50% of its volume by 2100, the latest report said.
If the world breaches 3 degrees Celsius of warming, glaciers in Nepal and Bhutan in the eastern Himalayas are at risk of losing 75% of their ice, and by just one degree more, that ticks up to 80%, according to the report.

Correct again, Thirdperson, as usual
Thurnberg said no such thing, nor did she imply it! And neither did the author of the article she quoted.

Global warming cough cough excuse me, climate change will wipe out humanity! Everyone stopped reading after that. Nut cases.
What's next? The Earth is getting closer to the sun and the sun is going to melt Earth if we keep wasting water! Everyone needs to stop using water over the next 5 years or else the Sun is going to burn us all!
I thought all the coasts were supposed to be 15' under water by now. According to Gore.

Yes, Thunberg in 2018 was quoting an article that was talking about a speech by a Harvard University professor of atmospheric chemistry. The article said the professor said "A top climate scientist is warning that climate change will wipe out all of humanity unless we stop using fossil fuels over the next five years.”
But the article was lying, the professor never said those words. So a news media outlet embellished the words of a professor to exagerate a cause and this young lady swallowed it and repeated it like it was truth.
"The whole problem is knowingly spreading false information to vulnerable people" Where have I seen that before?

This is confirmed.
Thanks Thirdperson and Fubah. Thurnberg indeed did not say or imply what is falsely alleged by a post above.
And she wasn't even directly quoting the precise wording of the article's author either!
In regards to the op above who started that false assertion:
"The whole problem is knowingly spreading false information "

Recently, world registers hottest day ever recorded globally in 44 years and probably several centuries. Since humanity hasn't stopped carbon emissions, future generations may look back at summer of 2023 as one of the coolest.

What is the false assertion that the "op above" started. I never said she tweeted the world would end in five years, rather I copied what she actually tweeted.
"In this case, though, Thunberg has been both the subject and spreader of misinformation. According to Anderson — the “top climate specialist” in question — the quote from Grit Post that Thunberg shared was a “complete fabrication” of his words."
^^^^THAT IS WHAT I POSTED^^^^^^^
Again with the false information.

The numbers for June of 2023 are in at Weather Underground.
In mid-Michigan the average temperature for June came in at 67.34F. Data for the last 51 years has this as the 22nd hottest June. 1987, 88, 91, 97, 98, and 99 were prior 2000 yrs hotter than this June.
Just putting things in perspective. Yes of course there is global warming, has been since records going back prior to 1900. And yes it is accellerating, but not like you hear.
My mid-Michigan aquaintence who said back in March, "the next three months are going to be much hotter" was obviously wrong for their area. Too much watching Good Morning America and The Weather Channel is my first thought.

It's the same people that said 1 year ago that this previous winter would be the driest ever. They were wrong. They said this summer would be the hottest, so far, they're wrong. They desperately want dry winters and hot summers to push their agenda. They also believe humans can control weather. They have a God complex.

Thanks,
That's the way it's shaping. When the tipping point is exceeded - and it's coming soon - what then?
The world is neither prepared nor preparing and it's going to happen in the years immediately following that threshold.

Myth is that sea level rise is uniform or exaggerated. Since Earth surface isn't uniform, sea level varies above or below average at different locations worldwide. There are regional differences. For example, Panama canal between Atlantic and Pacific oceans. For a more complete picture, satellite measurements provide average height of entire ocean. However tidal gauges only measure local level which can fluctuate widely with changing tides. Long term data shows sea level is rising at an increasing rate due to thermal expansion of water and melting glaciers. Big problem is flooding from storms damaging coastal cities.

Looking at the chart from year 1900 to 2020 you can see the sea level increase. It plateaus from the mid 40's to late 70's and is attributed to dam construction. WTF??? Now look at NASA's temp change from 1900-2020. https://climate.nasa.gov/vital-signs/global-temperature/
Oh look, global temps also plateaued from mid 1940's to late 70's too. But it wasn't the temp plateau that slowed rising sea levels, it was MAN and his dam construction. Don't look at that temp plateau!! Pardon the pun NASA, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see the temp rise lull created the sea level rise lull. A credibility moment right there!
So from 1900-1960 sea level rose 98 milimeters. Then from 1960- 2020 it rose what looks like 114 milimeters. So an extra 16 milimeters last 60 years compared to previous 60 years. That .63 inches over 60 years. Sure as hell not what I have been hearing!
And they show it increasing last 20 yrs. If the rise remained steady at the last 60 yr rate the sea level would rise 4.5 inches in the next 60. If the rise remains as fast as the last 20 yrs then add 2.9 more inches to the 4.5.
World population was about 1.6 billion in 1900, 3 billion in 1960, and 8 billion now.

Note; I had posted this and then removed it to double check the data. Reposting.
The FACTS about sea level and global temperature increase. (If you just get off your arse and look yourself!)

That is a fact, thanks thirdperson!
.....the Panama Canal is indeed a perfect example!

Sea level flucuations around the globe is irrelevant and a deflection. I live on a Great Lake. Level changes everyday.
Exaggerated sea level rise has been ongoing. From the Statue of Liberty will have water up to her elbows to maps showing half the United States under water. Go to sealevelrise.org and you find the biggest problem is land sinking. Building too much on unstable soil. Yet that will be used as climate change damage.
