In between his posts on Truth Social announcing controversial nominees for his incoming administration, Trump urged Republicans to nix a bipartisan bill that would give journalists greater protections under federal law.

Known as the PRESS Act,

the Protect Reporters From Exploitative State Spying Act would prevent the government from forcing journalists to reveal their confidential sources and limit government seizure of their private data without their knowledge.

Trump and his party own US Senate and House, and Supreme Court, there is virtually not much institution left to check Trump and Republicans' power and "mandate". Journalists and media are the only last very few balance power left, we can see how crucial they are to stand firmly vs a unified government plus a high court.
