Washington (CNN) The US announced a slate of new sanctions
against Russia on Sunday, cutting off Kremlin-controlled media
outlets from American advertisers  and  prohibiting the country
from using US-provided management and accounting consulting
services, according to a senior administration official and
a White House fact sheet.

Top allies will ban the import of Russian oil, world leaders said Sunday after a virtual meeting with President Joe Biden.
The moves are meant to further pressure Russia to end its war with Ukraine.
Only the U.S. had committed previously to a ban on importing Russian oil.

President Joe Biden and the leaders of the G-7 met virtually with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Sunday to discuss further actions the US and its allies are taking to punish Russia for its unprovoked invasion of Ukraine. The announcement also included new export controls against the Russian industrial sector and roughly 2,600 visa restrictions on Russian and Belarusian officials, as well as the first sanctions against executives of Gazprombank, the institution through which most of Europe buys Russian gas.
The raft of US and Western sanctions imposed since Russia's invasion of Ukraine earlier this year has pushed the Russian economy into a deep recession as it makes the difficult transition to becoming a closed economy.

Omg being shut out of g7 countries is hardly the same as being shut out of the world 

And Germany and Italy economies are probably going to get obliterated 

Finally.  This is the start of a broader coalition in this specific regard to the penultimate sanction against Russia.  No doubt there are a few details to be worked out but it's a good start. 

It's welcome news for certain.  Oil producing countries such as ours, Canada, Venezuela, and a few other smaller players can profit from this

Additionally, it was announced yesterday that President Biden has signed an updated version of the 1941 LEND LEASE ACT which will help Ukraine further.

That should be a big boost in the overall effort.

Looking very much like Finland will in fact apply for NATO membership within a week if not sooner.

Sweden today is signalling it is about to make a decision to join NATO as well

Now it appears that Turkey is going to oppose adding Finland and Sweden.

Speculation now is that Turkey may be working its own "quid pro quo" to finangle goodies from the west in return for their vote.

The White House said they would discuss the two countries’ applications to join the mutual defense alliance, as well as European security broadly. The requests by the long-neutral nations to join NATO have been widely lauded within the alliance as a rebuke of Russia after its invasion of Ukraine

Unlike past wars, US and NATO military aid to Ukraine is working better than expected for several reasons.  First, Ukraine is willing to fight to defend its country.  Secondly, US and NATO wisely chose to tailor aid to complement Ukraine strengths and weaknesses instead of reinventing the military.

They both formally applied for NATO membership today!   

Yes, Turkey is threatening to hold it up, but I believe the typical "backroom negotiations" will get it resolved and likely with Turkey the recipient of more than it deserves

cooperation will rule the day         eventually  

They are looking just a sliver stronger everyday
