What has to have bewildered the Norwegians beyond the assault of the tradegy, is the understanding that an individual who had lived in harmony with fellow Norwegians, transform into a threatening betrayer, and act out a calculated muderous slaughter of human life.
In Europe, with regard to the relevant political arm of concern such as economic survival amongst other major issues at present which spook voters. Liberal pols are viewed as dishonest and unskillful. Democratic channels come into sight as difficult to handle and useless. Present is a suspicious denial towards legislature politics and developing skepticism towards pols. There is discontent and a want for political modification which creates an environment for the surge of the ultra far extreme-right, whose office seekers are assailing closer to power and influence in a time of social struggles, weak endeavors by the academic and liberal pols at shaping solutions, as discontent with leaders who are lacking a connection with their people. And in such an environment, fanatics come out with unfathomable way of doing things and beliefs.
Condolences to those affected by the atrocity in Norway. As my support and thoughts to drJ and the parents, family and friends of the young lady whose life was taken too soon, leaving many mourning the the grieving loss of a daughter, friend and women. drJ, may your memories in time come to be a celebration of her life. God bless the dead.

be easy, to clear the air with you, my comment was not meant for you (specifically) and in retrospect, was the wrong thread (and the wrong time) for me to make a sarcastic comment like that.
I am also offended by the callousness of post #5, as it was ill timed and in poor taste.

RJSmith - Sweden is one of Europe's more liberal and accepting societies, offering freedom to enter into protection and open-mindedness. Though, even the fear of "Islamophobia" as you introduce it as, has reached your home sweet home. Illustrated in the election results of the far-right Democrats who ran a campaign ad which exhibited a mob of burqa covered women passing a senior citizen in pursuit of benefits. With party leader, Jimmie Akesson, following the German Chancellor as others attaining a strict opposition to what is seen as an alarming comprimise to the petition of muslim groups. Only months after the shooting at the biggest mosque in Sweden.
The surrender of democratic law have created a perception of real sentiment for the future of European identity and culture. As European nations surrender their conventions to make room for a foreign immigration lifestyle that does not administer them, their culture or values, a new patriotism is carved out. This is a reaction that has been decades in the making, and an issue that it being pushed into the future by politicians instead of being addressed now. It has had a specific adverse reaction in the north of Europe, where countries like Denmark previously have had extensive liberal immigration policies. The Danish right-wing party is backing a minority government, much the same as the Dutch right-wing party, who are both acquiring favor, in opposition to the left-wing across Europe who has structured an association with Muslim groups. Population eruption in Islamic communities within European nations, asylum seekers and refugees have caused some Scandinavian nations to signal for the restoration of borders. Though, all anti-immigration groups should condem the atrocities in Norway.
In many ways within Europe, this "Islamophobia" as you refer to it has a double standard. A Danish youth come up against the situation of prison time for circulating leaflets which gave notice that Denmark could in a future time become a Muslim nation. A Danish prosecutor gave the leaflets the declaration of "hate speech". Though, in Sweden, it was not "hate speech" when a national newspaper printed an article to solicit Israeli soldiers gather the organs of deceased Palistinians and sell them. The Swedish government defended the newspaper, saying it was free speech.
Islam may be considered by many American and Europeans as a common bonding among diverse inhabitants in politics and life. However it is a signifigant foundation of social identity and community relations. Islam is not a race but a global identity. So, its natural that a culture will come under attack when there is a forcing for multicultralism without a criteria as it gives preference to foreign customs and practices. Because there are levels to how much a communities reflection of their culture can foster tolerance and acceptence before the impact of a foreign culture becomes isolated and offers no social link to a nations culture. Any culture by nature that doesn't share a future with the host nations culture only creates domestic tension. Hence, the core EU concern about Turkish membership is half of the population is below thirty-years of age. Put that together with the unemployment rate, and membership creates the opportunity for millions of Turkish unemployed and skilled workers seeking better pay and benefits to spread out across Europe. And the Turks in Germany will not assimilate, instead wanting to preserve their culture. Though, in this sense, when you look at the typical problems of the depleted European countries. For them, its their inflated government and welfare state policies and a downfall to approach the issue of immigration without question.
Its a sad conclusion from the demonic actions of a home-grown radical who put to the sword innocent lives by taking advantage of the relaxed security within Norway.

Don't forget left wing radicalism as well, though it is a far rarer bird these days since the utter failure of state communism. Nearly all forms of political/religious radicalism are a danger, and should be combated by rational people everywhere.

Meanwhile, the deputy police chief announced that the shooter was a “Christian fundamentalist” but no one has reported either the evidence for the claim or how the police determined that. Whatever the case, he may be the only Freemason, Rome-leaning, Protestant fundamentalist in the world.
We know much more about his politics, I guess, although I find some of his positions there to be just as incongruous. He was anti-Marxist, anti-Nazi, pro-Israeli, anti-multicultural. He vehemently opposed Norway’s immigration policies but thought that the far right groups in Norway were racist.
So. Who takes these views and thinks that a good way to advance them is to kill 80+ children? I’m not sure we have a satisfactory answer.
Yes I was wrong about him being a Nazi, sorry. Interestingly enough, Pam Geller at Atlas Shrugs has his before and after facebook where someone has clearly added christian and conservative to his page that were not there the day prior. Seems fascinating.

From September 2009 through October 2010, Breivik posted more than 70 times on Dokument.no, a Norwegian site with critical views on Islam and immigration. In one comment, he entertained the idea of a European Tea Party movement.
