While the Mariners have done very well this season whenever they've lost a player or a starting pitcher. I think the situation is a bit different today. Seattle has a new left isde of the infield, Beltre has been hitting the ball well sionce his return from the DL, and while Jack Wilson has not contributed much with the bat, he is still a better hitter than his namesake. Hannahan is okay at the plate, and perhaps he's a wash today vs a sinker ball righty, perhaps not . . . but make no mistake, both of the new guys are a downgrade in the field. now couple that with a 5 inning starter and a burned out bullpen. the mariners will have to play a perfect game in order to win tonight . . . that's clearly possible, but i will take my chances that they fail in one or two critical areas.
Yankees ML for me tonight
I don't know why you had to insert Beltre there knowing he will not be playing anytime soon. |

i was tempted to back Gio today cause he did well his last start against the O's. But then again, Baltimore is shit. Good thing I laid off today.

check out Minnesota's record in August. Once they beat a team big (like yday's 11-0 shutout), their bats fall silent and they shit the bed the next game.
that said, they're good to fade the game after they win by a large margin.

Cubs just did enough to cover the runline. Gorzy even had an RBI. I have to admit I sweated that one out especially with Kevin Gregg pitching for the save.

had to sweat out the runline win. Gregg almost always has to add drama to games.

I'm not saying I'd take Pittsburgh, but I might just stay away from this one. Anyone have any thoughts on St. Louis, Detroit, and the Angels? Cubs have been struggling recently but I think that's because they were playing Colorado and Philly, 2 of the better teams in the NL. With Pitt however, I expect them to fare much better. Duke's not terrible, but he hasn't been good his past starts too. Plus, I don't believe he'll get run support tomorrow. I expect the Cubs to have boosted their morale with this blowout enough to cover the runline. I'm feeling St Louis but I'm just not comfotable with their offense. San Diego's been battling their past games too so I might just lay off this game. About the Angels, they got shelled last night worse than Afganistan or Iraq. Best believe they will pull through. Baltimore hasn't won consecutive games in weeks now so I'm leaning heavily against them. Lastly, I like playing day games over night games so in all likelihood, I'll pull the trigger big on the Cubs runline. |

when hitting their stride, the Yanks' BP is topnotch and quite untouchable.
Hughes and Mariano in the 8th and 9th almost guarantees a win.
