  #10 Miami travels to Chapel Hill tonight to take on the struggling UNC Tar Heels.  Miami comes into the game boasting one of the top defenses in the country and THE top pass defense , allowing opponents  only 142 yards through the air on the season.  This doesn’t setup well for UNC, a team that rely’s solely on the pass.  UNC rush offense is ranked 115^th in the country, gaining a measly 100 yards per game.  The loss of Giovani Bernard has turned out to be much more than anyone anticipated.  UNC faithful figured Sr. Quarterback Bryn Renner would have a big season since he was returning the majority of his pass catchers.  Well, that certainly hasn’t been the case.  10 point spread on a team that doesn’t allow opponents to pass that is playing a team that depends on the pass? 

So how is UNC going to be able to move the ball?  Let’s take a  closer look at this vaunted Miami pass defense.  They have accumulated their gaudy numbers against the following:

#84 ranked Florida Atlantic @ 210/gm                                     

#103 ranked Florida @ 189/gm

#118 ranked South Florida @ 138/gm

#119 ranked Georgia Tech @ 131/gm

Hmmm.  So in other words, Miami has yet to face a team that has discovered the forward pass.  UNC won this game last year 18-14 but do not put any stock into that.  Giovani Bernard accounted for over 200 all purpose yards and those days are over.  This will be Miami’s first game of the season outside of the state of Florida and only their second road game (south florida was their 1^st if you really want to call that a road game)  UNC’s back is against the wall and the critics are getting louder.  We will find out tonight if this defense is for real or not. They will be tested early and often  A rowdy crowd will be in attendance and I will be on the home dog.  Good Luck
