I'm not counting on him having another bad game. Brady can have a good game, or even a great game, but I'm betting that Manning will outshine him this time. Peyton Manning is sick of hearing about Tom Brady. Sick of it. He's had enough.
As motivated an athlete as Brady is, I believe his desire to win has slipped a notch or two, and how could it not? He's not chasing an elusive ring. He has nothing to prove, not to Manning, not to his own team, not to the rest of the league, and not to the fans. If Brady loses this game, he'll still be a Super Bowl hero. But if Peyton Manning loses this game, his reputation will be ruined, this time beyond repair. He will again be called a big game loser and who will be able to dispute it? This is the defining game of Manning's CAREER (to date). I am betting that this time, with the better team, home field, and the greater desire to win, he'll come up big. And if he doesn't? Well, then I'll join in and also call the guy a loser and remember to never again trust him in a big spot. But I don't think that's going to happen. Manning will play a great game on Sunday. He is not losing again to Tom Brady in the AFC Championship game.

The Colts have a massive mental barrier to overcomehere.
If you're talking specifically about the Patriots being that mental barrier, Mack05, they are over that hump. That is no longer a factor. The Colts know they can move the football against this team, unlike the Patriots teams from the last two AFC title game meetings. And the defense has their confidence back, and that's what made this play so strong for me.

I also believe that the Colts will prevail this weekend
I have a futures bet on the Pats @ +950
What action should I take now or later to give me some cover in case the Pats lose this weekend
Thanks in advance as i am a part time gambler
kryten444,
I recommend betting on the Colts to win the Super Bowl at no less than +145. Once the Colts finish beating up on the Patriots for the 3rd time in 14 months, they are not going to lose the Super Bowl. It's like when the Red Sox finally beat the Yankees for the pennant in 2004. They weren't ABOUT to go on and lose in the World Series. Now I'm not calling for a blowout in the Super Bowl, because the Colts will be made over a touchdown favorite in all likelihood and that's too much. But, they will not lose that game IF they get there.

I like your posts, and especially how you answer all the questions and shots and all the die hard fan based people in here, without telling them they're an idiot. You seem to be able to separate the football fan in yourself from from the football bettor. I find that extremely hard to do especially if I really hate a particular team and want to bet against them because I want them to lose, not because I think they will lose based on facts.
okay, here is my observation that I don't know if it is possible or just a bunch of hooey.
The coaching strategies in play here with Dungy and Belichick seem to me to be interesting. First of all I think during the regular season Teams that are considered contenders that play other teams in their conference might hold back a lot of their playbook in that regular season game if they think the said team could meet them in the playoffs.
A situation the Patriots were in a few years back following their second superbowl and had a long unbeaten streak that ended in Pittsburgh in 2004 losing 34-20. I think because Pittsburgh beat them in this game was because New England was thinking, " you can have this one, but we will see if we meet again" and we all know what happened there.
A similiar situation this year between the Pats and Colts regular season game: In that game the Patriots showed that they could run, and were successful, and it looked like the colts could not stop them, then The pats stopped running, possilby thinking that they could save that for a possilbe playoff rematch. Even Madden was befuddled why the pats stopped running. Al Micheals then aluded to belichick " as putting that in his back pocket for future use"
Finally I think the colts could and can stop the run, but chose not to especially against new england saving that aspect of their game for the playoffs. And here we are, Colts vs. Pats: colts are stopping the run big time, and ole Billy B who thought he had something from the regular season, has to rethink things.
I think the colts will win this one by a couple of TD's because they have some much more going for them on the motivational side, and they don't have Mike VanderBlabber anymore or he would be putting his foot in his mouth once again. There will be no snow, there will be no cold, there will be no shitting playing conditions, like the Pats had in everyone of their superbowl runs. The Pats end here.

Mr. B,
More excellent points but allow me to play devils advocate.
I am going to disagree with you on Tom Brady's desire to win this
game.
I do not know if you played any high school or college sports but I did.
In high school we had a sports program that was the envy of the entire
east coast.
No matter how many times we won, ( we only had one loss in three years),
nothing and I mean NOTHING got us more stoked that hearing
about the next new kid on the block that was going to knock us off
our throne.
You are seriously underestimating a champion athelete's will.
Just ask the guys who played Michael Jordan in his prime.
And do not fool yourself, Tom Brady is in his prime.

Bator I am with you on the Colts, there was just one disturbing video tidbit I saw this morning. Some Charger was spouting out the "the best team didn't win the game". And I started to think about all the times I heard that before. Raiders and Rams players said it in 01, Panthers in 03 and Eagles in 04 all said the same thing..... all that said I trust Bator more than any NFL player with diarrhea of the mouth.

BATOR, you keep saying how bad Brady looked but they still beat a 14-2 team............Ya gotta believe by past performances that he won't have another bad game. Tough game to call.
I'm sorry, didn't SD have arguably the best D in the NFL? For the first three quarters didn't SD speed dominate NE? Yes, Brady had trouble in the first three quarters against "the best team that didn't win the game." And as Bator points out, SD was trying to lose the game (aka. played like shit compared to their potential). But, NE kept the game close and did what they had to win it. I honestly don't think that if INDY were in NE position they would have beaten SD.

michael jordan or tom brady didnt start off winning championships . their teams developed chemistry and gained experience and confidence as a team. brady is still in his prime but i believe his fellow teammates aren't. Manning and company are chomping at the bit to win and have what it takes to beat them now. I bet on new england to beat SD well atleast cover and when watching that game you can see the patroits dont have what it takes to dominate anymore. they only won becuase SD has mentally retarded players on the team. how you can get a personal foul after you stop your opponent ???? theres no excuse for that, he's as carlos mencia would say DeeeDeeeDeeeeeeeeee. New england is still a scrappy team with alot of veteran players that use their heads to play but they are not playing against DeeeDeeeDeeeeee's anymore.

Bator.......Another thing that has me perplexed is the Indy D. The last two games of 6 and 8 points were the two best by far. During the season 4 times their opponent scored in the teens, the rest was 20 or above. I know having SANDERS playing is huge(as I had stated before the chiefs game in a thread) but is this D really that good or was it 2 poor offensive performances ??

Very good thread fellas, with outstanding points on both sides! I am already on the Colts -3 and here are my reasons (most of which have already been mentioned):
1) Colts D - Bob Sanders is more then a starting player..he brings an attitude (read..NOT soft) to the defense...he makes a world of difference. Also, I agree with Bator's statement about the last 2 games meaning more to him (for the colts D), then the regular season. Why, you ask? Look at the NCAA BB tourney....does the best regular season team win it? Nope! The team that gets hot at the end is the one cutting down the nets, and that team in our game here is the Indy D
2) Manning - 3 bad games in a row...I am counting on a good one now....he wants nothing more then to beat Brady, the Pats, Bellicheck (like a chess game between them), and get to the Big Dance
3) Speed, Speed, and more Speed - Colts have more of it - offense, defense, and ST's. The Chargers had more speed and looked stronger against the Pats as well...like Bator pointed out, they just blew the game. I had the pats there, but the bolts should have won that game by at least 10 points (if they could have caught a ball, batted a ball, etc, etc)
4) Home field - RCA dome..need I say more? And guess which team this helps more (hint...see reason #3). And yes, I know Brady is great in domes, but not this time
5) Coaching and Misc - Colts KNOW they can beat the pats (last 2 times). They also know the pats kept them out of the big dance two times...Dungy and his QB will get over the hump here
6) Misc again - had to add one more...Who, on the Pats, can get down the field deep behind the cover 2?????????? I see nobody on the Pats that can do this...The Pats gameplan lately has been short, controlled passes...Sanders will be eating that up. Now, which team CAN get the ball deep???? (hint...harrison and wayne play for them!)

I disagree Bator. Beating the Patriots in the regular season is one thing, beating a team that has has an edge on you in the playoffs is quite another (can give you numerous examples in sports). Some players freeze on the big occasions and plays that are routine in the regular season becoem drop passes and fumbles in the playoffs. You can bet your bottom dollar if the Patriots are within 3 deep into the 4th all those doubts the Colts have come flooding back. "Can we really beat these guys". I see this coming down to a field goal. Colts have a serious mental barrier to overcome and thats why this will not be a Blowout. Colts better hope Pats used all there luck last weekend, but for some reason the great teams make their own luck and thats always been the case in any sport. I am not confident on my Colts pick, but maybe its there turn to get a HUGE slick of luck. I think putting on a large wage on a team that has (at least for me anyway) so much to prove is well lets its brave..I hope your right on Colts ML, but this is going to wire..

Papa,
Wouldn't have Peyton been chomping at the bit last week also?
His QB rating was 36.9.
P.S. I am not sure I would call a three time champion "scrappy"
Try "dominant"

TomCurtis,
The talent gap between your high school teams and those that you played against must have been extreme. Those "new kids on the block" probably had little or no chance to beat you no matter how bad they wanted to. Luckily, such a massive difference in talent doesn't exist in NFL games not involving the Oakland Raiders and Detroit Lions. And Peyton Manning is no new kid on the block.
Maybe I am underestimating Tom Brady's will to win, but here's the thing. I believe the guy is maniacal about winning, and puts that goal above all else. But even as driven as he is, I just can't magine that any athlete can maintain the same drive and the same hunger after having achieved so much success. There may not be much of a dropoff in desire in Brady's case, because he is the consumate team player, but there has to be some.
I firmly believe that Peyton Manning's desire to finally get one over on Tom Brady in an AFC title game outweighs Brady's desire to stick it to Manning for a third time.

TomCurtis,
The talent gap between your high school teams and those that you played against must have been extreme.

Wouldn't have Peyton been chomping at the bit last week also?
His QB rating was 36.9.
P.S. I am not sure I would call a three time champion "scrappy"
Try "dominant"
If I remember it correctly, the Boston Globe recently ran a story about how their are now just 8 or 9 players left from that first Super Bowl team, not to mention different offensive and defensive coordinators.

This years game at Indy. NE...first drive was intercepted in the end zone, INDY then drove for a TD 7-0. NE came right back and scored a TD 7-7. INDY went on a 82 yard scoring drive INDY 14-7. NE scored right back 14-14. INDY returned the next kickoff 70 yards and got a FG out of it INDY 17-14 with 1:32 left in half. Brady drove them down again only to be intercepted at the INDY 3 yard line. Also at the end of the game NE had the ball but Brady threw another pick to ice it for INDY. A 70 yard kick return, 1 fumble and 4 Brady ints( one in the end zone and another on INDY 3) that is why INDY beat NE. I see a very similar game, back and forth but not 4 Brady picks...I lean toward NE. Way too tough to call a play of the year. G L though I am still undecided, thinking OVER might be a better play.

Mr Bator I feel both Manning and Brady will play well in this game and I see a possible shoot out. It's the supporting cast that decides this game. One player that no one is talking about will make a key play to swing this game one way or another. If the Colts can't stop the run then they are in big trouble in this game. If they can stop the run and make the Pats one dimensional like last week then the Colts should prevail. I am hoping Colts go up early and force the Pats into a new game plan and abandon the run. If the Colts can then control the clock with Addai and Rhodes and keep scoring that will force Brady to throw. If Brady throws over 50 passes like last week he will be picked off and probably more then once.
I have a feeling that if one of the rookie running backs performs the other this could be the key to this matchup. If Pats establish the run then it could be curtains for Colts backers. Betting the sums you are betting on this match is crazy as there are too many ifs and buts in this matchup..

not so sure about that one b, try running that by sir charles or the mailman.
i could easily see the colts pulling the redsox in '04 this year... but i could also easily see them as this decade's equivalent to the buffalo bills of the early 90's...
