80-100% percent of the public on one side, games in the NFL

I suppose only wise guys bet big money on sports?  I suppose sportsbook.com's sampling of where the money is going is a good enough sample of all sports books?

That information is just like playing roulette, like another poster so eloquently put it.  Jeez.  You're talking yourself into a bet without doing any research on it.  Five times red, I'll bet on black.

Think about it for a second.  If you're not a wise guy or a sharp and you're employing this practice of betting the other way that the "public" is betting, the number of bets are going to shift to the other side because of the action you're creating.  Then what are you going to do?  Also, what if the wise guys tell all their buddies about this sweetheart of a line?  They keep all of this juicy information to themselves?  How many bettors keep juicy information to themselves?  This forum would be empty if that were the case.

Okay, now digest this.  Tonight's Indy ML has 80% of the money on it.  63% of the side action is on Tenn.  That's completely contradictory!  Are both going to win? I think not.

And, according to this post... with 80% on the Indy ML, you should be betting the Tennessee ML, yet the OP is betting Indy.  WTF?  With only 62% on the Tenn side... this post says to take no action on the side bet.

Now, start talking to me about statistics and not if I flip a coin and it comes up heads 5 times it will come up tails the next time I flip it.  I believe OP also said he was betting the Colts because Tennessee is due to lose.  That's just silly.

I personally don't care which side you bet.  If you like the Colts, bet it.  If you the Titans, get on it.  But, strategies that take into account the fact that a team is due to lose and so you bet the other side is really a crap shoot.  He's already contradicted his own post by betting the other side of what his post claims is his system.  If you keep betting like that you'll be the one losing.

 

Dude if you do not know when sharpies are hammering a game then you are not a real handicapper.It has everything to do with it.You handicap your own games and I will take the games a friend of mine whos made his whole living on betting and you will get chopped up!!!

 

Friggen people are so ignoriant to what's going on no wonder why it's easy to make a living at this.

 

Also the percentages on the side got close to 50% right before kickoff so it would have nullified your theory on all together so then the next step would have been to look at the ml which was 80% colts. Its all good lessons learned to win money next week!!

But, I suppose someone explained it to me somewhere along the way, so I will do the same...  The percentages you see are number of bets placed on each team or total.  What the book wants is equal money on each side, not an equal number of bets.  There could be 16,000 $25-$100 bets on one side for a total of $500,000 and 4,000 $2,000-$20,000 bets on the other side for a total of $500,000.  Hence, 80% of the bets on one team and 20% on the other team.  What contrarian players are banking on in this situation (most of the time) is that the 4000 $2000-$20000 bettors are better at picking winners than the 16000 $25-$100 bettors.

I don't recommend blindly tailing any trend, stat, or person.  However, I'll use the old adage of "tools in your toolbox"...  This can be a very valuable tool, when used correctly.
