Braves vs White Sox Prediction, Picks, and Odds: Atlanta Steamrolls Chicago

Chicago's offense has been abysmal to start the season and will hope a new change of scenery can wake up the offense. Unfortunately for the White Sox, the Braves are in town and our MLB picks love the visitors in this spot.

It hasn’t exactly been a banner start to the season for the Chicago White Sox.

After getting swept at home by the Tigers, they open a three-game set against the Atlanta Braves — who only happened to own the best record in the Bigs a season ago.

Atlanta is coming off a series win in Philadelphia, and is a -240 moneyline favorite in the MLB odds. Can Chicago find its way into the win column? Find out in my free MLB picks for the Braves vs White Sox on April 1.

Braves vs White Sox predictions

The Chicago White Sox went out with a whimper in the series finale Sunday against the Tigers, dropping a 3-2 decision. The ChiSox managed five hits but fanned 11 times, leaving four runners left on base.

Their bats have been dormant to start they year, hitting just .182 through three games, which ranks 28th in the Major, along with a Bottom 5 OPS of .593.

As a result, Chicago has mustered just eight runs through three games, tied for dead last in MLB. Perhaps Chris Flexen can give the a boost on the hill. Monday will be his first start of the year after a rough 2-8 campaign in 2023, with a 6.86 ERA.

It’s a different story on the other end for the visitors, though the Atlanta Braves somewhat cooled after dropping a 5-4 decision to the Phillies in their series finale.

Still, it was a successful series, as Atlanta took two of three while pouring in 25 runs across the set, putting it sixth in scoring in the early going.

It currently leads the league in hitting with a crisp .339 average, while ranking second in on-base percentage at .387. The Braves hand the ball to Charlie Morton in the series opener after going 14-12 last year with a 3.64 ERA.

Atlanta has won each of its last eight road games against AL Central opponents following a road loss. With a pitching advantage and better offense, that’s a trend worth betting on in this one.

Braves vs White Sox same-game parlay

Braves moneyline

Ronald Acuna Jr. Over 1.5 hits

Charlie Morton Over 5.5 strikeouts

After a blistering start through two games, Ronald Acuna Jr. was cooled off Sunday against the Phillies. The leadoff man went hitless for the first time this season, going 0-for-3 with three strikeouts, while taking a walk and scoring a run.

Three strikeout games are a rare occurrence for Acuna Jr, who fanned three times in a game just once in 2023 — and bounced back with a pair of hits the next game. He’s only faced Flexen twice, and has a hit against him. I think he bounces back Monday.

Morton was the winning pitcher in a 9-0 win against the White Sox in July last year, as he scattered three hits across seven innings, striking out four.

Last year was the first in his career where he failed to record at least 200 strikeouts in a campaign when making at least 30 starts, crossing that total in four previous years.

He’ll get a good chance to get off to a good start Monday, as the ChiSox have struck out at least seven times in every game this season, with two games at 11 whiffs.

Starting pitchers

Charlie Morton (0-0, 0.00 ERA): Charlie Morton enters the season at 40 years old but is still an integral part to this pitching rotation. He went 14-12 last season with a very respectable 3.64 ERA. Chicago will be a perfect lineup for him to start the season.

Chris Flexen (0-0, 0.00 ERA): Flexen comes from Colorado where he sported an ugly 6.27 ERA last season. He looked a little more comfortable in Spring Training with Chicago, giving up two earned while punching out four in nine innings of work.
