Diamondbacks vs Cubs prediction

My Diamondbacks vs Cubs best bet: Over 7 (-120 at Caesars)

The Chicago Cubs have arguably been the best offensive team in Major League Baseball this season.

Entering this matchup, Chicago ranks in the Top 3 in the league in runs per game, hits per game, batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, OPS, home runs, and stolen bases.

That success is likely to continue against right-hander Merrill Kelly, who takes the mound for the Arizona Diamondbacks. Through four starts this season, Kelly owns a 5.57 ERA and 1.33 WHIP.

His underlying metrics are even worse. Kelly ranks in the bottom quarter of the league in expected ERA (xERA), expected batting average (xBA), average exit velocity, strikeout rate, barrel rate, and hard-hit rate.

The good news for Kelly is that he should receive plenty of run support. Right-hander Jameson Taillon takes the mound for Chicago, and he's also struggled this season.

Through four starts, Taillon owns a 5.40 ERA and 1.25 WHIP. He also ranks in the bottom-third of the league in xERA, xBA, and barrel rate.

Caesars QuickPick: Our Diamondbacks vs Cubs same-game parlay (SGP)

Over 7

Ian Happ Over 0.5 total bases

Michael Busch Over 0.5 total bases

If we’re backing this game to go Over the total, we need some batters to generate offense. There may be no better candidates than Ian Happ and Michael Busch.

Happ has been tremendous, posting a .367 batting average over his past seven games. Meanwhile, Busch boasts a .406 average over that same span.
