My analysis
Mark Vientos had a great regular season in the Big Apple — hitting .266 with 27 home runs and 71 RBI — and his strong play has continued in the playoffs.
Vientos struggled down the stretch with just a .223 average in September, but he flipped the script in October. The 3B leads all players with 15 hits, including three home runs and two doubles. Sure, it helps he’s played in three extra games, but his contributions can’t go overlooked.
The Mets were held to just four hits in Wednesday night’s Game 3 loss, but Vientos came away with one of them. He now has a hit in back-to-back games, six of his last seven, and eight of 10 playoff games this year.
Vientos should continue to hit in the two-hole for New York, giving him a good chance of getting at least four at bats. Given the bats around him, he shouldn’t get pitched around, either.
