The Los Angeles Dodgers are a perfect 6-0 at Dodger Stadium this season, and they host the National League Central-leading Chicago Cubs in the opener of their three-game set tonight at 10:10 p.m. ET.

Chicago is sending lefty Matthew Boyd to the bump with Los Angeles countering with Yoshinobu Yamamoto, and my top Cubs vs. Dodgers predictions and MLB picks expect this pitching matchup to favor the home team on Friday, April 11.

Cubs vs Dodgers prediction

My Cubs vs Dodgers best bet: Dodgers first to 4 runs (-105 at bet365)

Chicago Cubs lefty Matthew Boyd has been sharp to start the season, but he faces his third consecutive tough opponent Friday. Boyd has yet to allow a run despite allowing a healthy .300 BABIP, and his 3.97 xFIP also suggests there’s been some good fortune.

While the first-year Cubbie cooling the Arizona Diamondbacks and San Diego Padres definitely impresses, I’m just expecting more bumps in the road against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday night.

The Los Angeles Dodgers will have eight-time All-Star Freddie Freeman back in the lineup, and Los Angeles has statistical correction ahead after pacing the majors with a 121 wRC+ against southpaws last year. They’re sporting a 22nd-ranked 80 mark to start 2025.

Los Angeles is also sending lights-out righty Yoshinobu Yamamoto to the hill, and he’s sporting a career 2.80 ERA and matching 2.80 xFIP across 21 starts with opposing hitters only making contact on 52.7% of his pitches inside the strike zone.

As a result, I’m anticipating Yamamoto holding the Cubs largely off balance and in check long enough for the LA bats to plate four runs. Plus, Los Angeles has averaged 6.9 runs per game with a solid plus-15 run differential. The Dodgers are also a perfect 6-0 at home to start the year.

Of course, the Chicago bullpen has also been serving up meatballs to start the year with a 25th-ranked 4.97 ERA and 28th-ranked 4.69 xFIP.

Cubs vs Dodgers same-game parlay (SGP)

Dodgers first to 4 runs

Yoshinobu Yamamoto to record the win

Teoscar Hernandez Over 1.5 hits + runs + RBI

Yamamoto has pitched five innings in all three starts this season to qualify himself for the win, and as highlighted, he’s been tidy when healthy throughout his career. Additionally, I do have confidence in the Dodgers putting runs on the board early against Boyd, and I have no confidence in the Chicago bullpen limiting damage for a Cubs comeback bid.

Turning to Dodgers slugger Teoscar Hernandez, he’s been an elite hitter against left-handed pitchers with a .410 wOBA and .314 ISO dating back to the 2021 campaign. Add hitting in the heart of a deep and talented lineup, and Hernandez is positioned to fill up the box score.
