The San Francisco Giants are riding a miserable, six-game losing streak they hope to end when they meet the Arizona Diamondbacks today.
A hot start is paramount to their success in my Giants vs. Diamondbacks predictions.
The Giants are hoping to avoid their second consecutive series sweep and my MLB picks expect starter Jordan Hicks will have the right stuff to get the job done.

My analysis
The San Francisco Giants are mired in a six-game losing streak mostly due to an underperforming rotation and a disastrous bullpen.
However, Jordan Hicks has been one of the few bright spots in San Francisco's rotation. The Giants righty has a nice matchup today against the Arizona Diamondbacks he should be able to exploit.
Hicks is coming off his worst start this season against the big-hitting New York Yankees, surrendering four earned runs across 5 1/3 frames but didn't walk a batter and struck out four.
The 27-year-old righty has been more than serviceable from the away dugout mainly because his sinker-splitter-sweeper trifecta serves up a high groundball rate and gets strikeouts.
The Diamondbacks have scored a dozen across this series, but don’t have the best peripherals against righties. They’ve scored the 23rd-most runs with the 26th-worst BABIP (.270) and their high strikeout rate bodes well for Hicks as he’s whiffing a shade over 10 away hitters per nine.
D-Backs starter Jordan Montgomery is coming off one of his worst starts of the season at the New York Mets where he allowed six earned runs at Citi Field. He hasn’t fared much better at Chase Field. The veteran lefty doesn’t get the strikeouts (4.00 per nine), walks a shade under four and his 4.50 xFIP at home suggests more of the same today.
The Giants plate the 15th-most away runs and boast the 11th-best OPS against southpaws. They’ve underperformed recently but score 4.47 runs per away game and that should be enough to get to Montgomery early, and to win the first five innings.
Giants vs Diamondbacks same-game parlay (SGP)
I like Hicks to hold off the D-Backs' sticks and win the first five innings, but it's supposed to be a hot day in Phoenix and neither bullpen is excelling.
Both ‘pens have ERA’s north of 4.00. The Giants' back end is over-extended and has served up over one home run per nine while Arizona’s bullpen allows a shade under 1.0 HR/9. The Over is 3-1-1 across their last five games and today’s matchup will soar over, too.
