The Giants and Dodgers are set for Game 2 of their four-game series after Los Angeles took Game 1 on Thursday night.

These NL West rivals wasted no time getting back into the thick of things and will be very familiar with each other, as Friday marks the second of eight meetings between these ballclubs between yesterday and August 4.

Will the Giants even the score in the series and gain some ground in the divisional standings, or will the Dodgers come out on top again?

Check out our MLB picks and predictions for the San Francisco Giants and Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday, July 22 to find out.

Giants vs Dodgers betting preview

Starting pitchers

Logan Webb (9-3, 2.83 ERA): Webb took his game to the next level a year ago, compiling an 11-3 record and 2.97 ERA across 148.3 innings. He’s picked up right where he left off and has maintained a sub-3.00 ERA in 2022. His strikeout rate is down from 26.5% a year ago to 21.4% this year but he’s avoided hard contact with a 4.4% barrel rate.

Tyler Anderson (10-1, 2.96 ERA): Anderson has been wonderful for the Dodgers and is having the best season of his career in 2022. He hadn’t posted an ERA below 4.00 in any season other than his 2016 rookie year with the Colorado Rockies, but his 2.96 ERA this year is stupendous. His 3.10 xERA is in-line with his actual ERA and his great 3.9% barrel rate is a good indicator of continued success.

Giants vs Dodgers picks and predictions

Our side and total predictions are based upon our analysis of the line and total in this game. Our best bet is our favorite pick across all markets.

Moneyline analysis

This is a good pitching battle between two quality arms. I give the slight edge to Logan Webb mostly because his run of success has lasted two seasons whereas Tyler Anderson’s numbers are all outliers from his career norms.

Webb has pitched six times against the Dodgers in his career and has been effective, limiting his rivals to a .631 OPS across 121 plate appearances. Anderson is familiar with the Giants. In eight games against San Francisco, he’s allowed a .729 OPS while notching only one win with a 4.40 career ERA.

The Dodgers have the better lineup by seemingly every metric, but it’s not a blowout. San Francisco ranks 10th in OPS, eighth in wOBA, and 10th in wRC+ on the season. The Giants may not have the star power of their rivals, but they’ve found success at the plate by hitting one through nine.

The Giants are 4-0 in their last four games against a left-handed starter. They’ve hit lefties well this season, ranking sixth in wRC+ against southpaws.

This is a heated rivalry and I’d be surprised to see the Giants go down without a fight. It came right down to the wire in last year’s 2-1 Dodgers win in Game 5 of the NL Divisional Series, and there’s not as much separating these teams as is commonly believed. The Giants are 12-7 in games that Webb has pitched this season. With an excellent pitcher on the mound, I like San Francisco’s chances to grab a win on Friday night.

Prediction: Giants moneyline (+126 at WynnBET)

Over/Under analysis

As alluded to previously, both teams are sending a quality starting pitcher to the mound. Webb has a 3.49 xERA and just a 4.4% barrel rate, while Anderson has a 3.10 xERA and 3.9% barrel rate. Both pitchers have succeeded in limiting hard contact this season.

The Under has been trending when these teams play each other, going 4-1-1 in the last six meetings. They exploded for 15 combined runs in the first game of the series, but I don’t expect that to continue. The Giants have rebounded well after a blowup spot, as the Under is 9-4-1 in their last 14 games when allowing five or more runs in their previous outing.

The Under is 4-0-1 in the Dodgers’ last five home games against a right-handed starter, and they have a superb one on Friday night in Webb. The Under is 11-2-2 in their last 15 Game 2s and is 11-3-3 in their last 17 against the NL West.

The season-long numbers will tell you that these are two dangerous offenses capable of putting a crooked number on the scoreboard, just as they did last night. That being said, Friday has the looks of a pitching duel between two starters that have a WHIP of 1.10 or below.

I’ll take the Under.

Prediction: Under 8 (-105 at FanDuel)

Best bet

I’m backing the Giants as my best bet for Friday night.

This series has seen plenty of back-and-forths and the Giants have gone 13-12 in 25 regular season meetings over the last two seasons. This is a closer matchup than the odds indicate and therefore I’m backing the underdog.

Webb gives the Giants a good chance at a bounceback after last night’s loss and this team has hit lefties well, so I like their chances to pull through at plus money.

Pick: Giants moneyline (+126 at WynnBET)
