Maybe there’s hope for the Toronto Blue Jays after all, with last night’s 8-2 win over the Baltimore Orioles lifting the gloom from their Opening Day no-show.
Now the spotlight shifts to Max Scherzer, who makes his Toronto debut this afternoon, but my Orioles vs. Blue Jays predictions expect the runs to flow at Rogers Centre.

Orioles vs Blue Jays prediction
My Orioles vs Blue Jays best bet: Over 8.5 (-115 at BetMGM)
If anyone wondered how steep the rollercoaster might be in this make-or-break year for the Toronto Blue Jays, a two-game sample has already confirmed it'll be a wild ride of highs and lows.
We’ve had two lopsided scorelines in this season-opening series, and both have sailed past this 8.5 O/U line. With the Baltimore Orioles thumping six home runs on Thursday and Toronto piling up 14 hits last night, there’s a lot to like about these lineups, and I expect more of the same this afternoon.
The Over has been a winning ticket in eight of the past 10 meetings between these teams, including four in a row, and the Blue Jays have cashed the Over in 31 of their last 49 home games. The Orioles have scored at least six runs in five of their past seven clashes with Toronto.
Then there’s the Max Scherzer question. His thumb issue, and whether it lingers through the season, could be the swing factor in whether Toronto has an elite or painfully thin rotation. It’s anyone’s guess how many innings he’ll get through today — and don’t be surprised if Baltimore is aggressive against him right out of the gate.
The Blue Jays still have to prove that the addition of Anthony Santander and the emergence of Will Wagner are enough to elevate an offense that was painful to watch for large chunks of last season, but the early signs are promising, and a matchup against Dean Kremer looks favorable, with Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Bo Bichette and George Springer all very familiar with the Orioles righty.
Likewise, Baltimore is primed for a bounce-back effort after managing just three hits yesterday. Adley Rutschman stands out as a danger man with his .429 average when visiting Rogers Centre.
While hitters across the league are still finding their groove, I’m more concerned about today’s starting pitchers feeling the heat, and I’m counting on the big bats to hammer this Over.
Orioles vs Blue Jays same-game parlay (SGP)
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is up and running in 2025, with a pair of hits and an RBI last night, and I love the Over on 1.5 total bases in a matchup against Kremer that he’s dominated over the years. Vladdy has a 10-for-28 career mark when facing Kremer, including five homers.
The contract situation rumbles on, but Guerrero Jr. seems capable of blocking out the noise, and I see him being busy on the base paths for a second straight game.
I’m sticking with the high-scoring script and rounding out my SGP with a wager on a rough day for Kremer, who’s coming off an 8-10 record in 2024. The Over on 2.5 earned runs allowed offers nice value, with Toronto waking up offensively last night.
The top three hitters in this Blue Jays order went 6-for-12 yesterday, and that engine room could be the difference again this afternoon. The Orioles will likely give Kremer some leeway to pitch through jams, but Toronto flashed enough power yesterday to put more faith in this lineup.
