The MLB season is in full swing and with it all the betting markets that we’ve come to love/hate. This article will try to find some of MLB’s best props and side bets for the day and does all the heavy lifting so you don’t have to. If there’s a line on it, we’ll look into it.

Today we take a look at two of the best hitting teams in the game while also backing a productive slugger who is hiding out in the baseball purgatory of Detroit.

Here are our favorite MLB free prop bets and predictions for Tuesday, August 10, 2021.

Today’s MLB props and picks

Jonathan Schoop Over 1.5 Total bases (-110)

Detroit Tigers second baseman Jonathan Schoop is putting together his best season since 2017 when he played for the Baltimore Orioles. Tonight, he matches up against his former team in a familiar location at Camden Yards and looks poised for a big performance.

The Orioles are sending Keegan Akin to the mound and the left-hander has been brutal, pitching to a 7.66 ERA with a 1.74 WHIP and an opponent batting average of .327 in 51 2-3 innings this season. Schoop leads the Tigers with 18 home runs, 64 RBI, and 197 total bases and has been particularly dominant against southpaws, batting .356 with an OPS of 1.031.

Schoop is coming off a game against Cleveland where he went 0-4 at the plate but prior to that, he had five straight games with at least two total bases. Take the Over 1.5 on his total bases today.

Houston Team Total Over 4.5 (-120)

The Houston Astros are dealing with a few injuries, with Yuli Gurriel on the IL and Alex Bregman and Michael Brantley listed as questionable for today's game against the Colorado Rockies. That said, this is a very deep Astros lineup that still has Yordan Alvarez, Carlos Correa, Kyle Tucker, and Jose Altuve.

Jon Gray will get the start for the Rockies and the right-hander is actually worse on the road than he is at hitter-friendly Coors Field. In nine away starts, Gray has pitched to a 4.21 with an OBA of .276.

Colorado's bullpen has been even worse, ranking dead-last in the majors with an ERA of 5.45 and second-last with a 1.51 WHIP.

That's bad news against an Astros lineup that leads the majors with 5.39 runs per game and ranks second with an OPS of .778. Back the Over 4.5 on Houston's team total.

Tampa Bay First 5 Innings Team Total Over 2.5 (+110)

Tampa Bay has been crushing the ball lately, averaging 6.33 runs per game with an OPS of .810 over the last 15 days. The Rays have been one of the best hitting teams on the road all year, ranking second in the majors with 5.64 runs per game and third with an OPS of .741.

Today they head to Fenway to face off against the Boston Red Sox and starting pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez. The lefty has pitched to a 5.33 ERA in 21 starts and has been even worse at home where he has a 6.35 ERA across seven starts.

Expect a strong start from the Rays and take the Over 2.5 runs on their first five innings team total.
