As the great Earth, Wind & Fire would say, we’re “Dancing in September,” which means we are coming down the home stretch of the MLB season — and only a month left to cash on baseball prop bets.

We open the month by highlighting the red-hot Giancarlo Stanton as the Yankees close out a series against the Angels, and we get the battle of the Max’s when the Dodgers host the Braves tonight.

We break down and pick these games and more with our best free MLB prop bets and predictions for Wednesday, September 1.

Today’s MLB props and picks

Giancarlo Stanton Over 1.5 Total Bases (+105)

Despite the New York Yankees dropping four games in a row, Giancarlo Stanton is in the middle of another one of his patented hot streaks. The Yankees’ slugger has hits in eight of his last nine games, including five dingers, resulting in a .382 batting average and a 1.254 OPS.

Stanton will look to stay hot and help the Yankees rebound as they close out their series with the Los Angeles Angels. Stanton and the Bronx Bombers will face off against Angels’ rookie Packy Naughton (terrific baseball name).

The lefty is making his first career start, after two relief appearances in which he allowed one earned run on five hits over 5 1-3 innings of work. Naughton had mixed results in the minors this season, pitching to a 4.90 ERA and a 1.48 WHIP between AA and AAA.

Getting five innings out of Naughton is probably the best-case scenario and then he’ll have to hand the ball to an Angels’ bullpen that ranks 26th in ERA and 24th in WHIP. Bet on Stanton to stay hot in this one.

James Kaprielian Over 4.5 Strikeouts (-150)

Even though Kaprielian is coming off a rough start against the Yankees, he has been a big boost to the A's starting staff this season. The rookie right-hander has pitched to a 3.65 ERA with a 1.19 WHIP since joining the Oakland rotation in mid-May and next up for Kaprielian is the Detroit Tigers.

The Tigers enter this matchup having lost four in a row and 10 of their last 14 games overall, plating just 2.74 runs per game over that 14-game stretch. The Tigers also strike out a ton — 9.43 times per game to be exact, which ranks 26th in the MLB.

Despite Kaprielian’s struggles in his last outing, he re-found his strikeout form in that game, punching out eight batters in the loss. His strikeout numbers had been down over his previous three starts but prior to that, he had gone Over 4.5 Ks seven times in a nine-start span.

Atlanta-Los Angeles Under 4 Five-Inning Total (-120)

Max Fried will toe the rubber against Max Scherzer when the Atlanta Braves face off against the Los Angeles Dodgers in a matchup of two of baseball's hottest teams in August.

The Braves went 18-8 in the month while the Dodgers were a crazy good 21-6. Now, both teams will look to start September off on the right foot and they hand the ball to the right guys.

While Fried is coming off a so-so outing against the San Francisco Giants, the lefty still has a 1.90 ERA and is limiting opponents to a .212 batting average over eight starts since the All-Star break. He goes against a stacked Dodgers lineup, but they seem mortal against southpaws, ranking 25th in batting average and 17th in OPS when facing lefties this season.

Meanwhile, Scherzer has looked as dominant as ever in Dodger blue. The right-hander has allowed just five earned runs over his first five starts with L.A., resulting in a 1.55 ERA. He is limiting opponents to a .178 batting average while racking up 41 strikeouts in 29 innings pitched.

With the Braves ranked 11th in batting average against righties this season and plating just 3.6 runs per game over their last seven contests, pitching should be the story early in this one.
