Cavaliers vs 76ers Prediction, Picks, and Odds for Tonight’s NBA Game

Joel Embiid is expected to sit again just one night after his season debut, and with Paul George and Tyrese Maxey also sidelined, the 76ers are in deep trouble at home vs. Evan Mobley and the 12-0 Cavaliers.

The unbeaten Cleveland Cavaliers are likely to enjoy a benefit of the schedule tonight with the Philadelphia 76ers expected to sit both of their biggest stars. No one reaches 12-0 entirely because of breaks in the calendar, so Cleveland probably does not need that luxury.

Doubting Philadelphia simply because of its expected injury report has been a tried-and-true approach in making NBA picks, and that will lead my Cavaliers vs. 76ers predictions before tip at 7:30 ET on Wednesday, November 13.

Cavaliers vs 76ers prediction

My best bet
Cavaliers -10.5 (-110 at bet365)

My analysis
Could Joel Embiid play tonight? Physically, probably. He spent some of Tuesday night’s post-game quickly trying to suggest it. “I know I said I would never play back-to-backs, but I’m a troll, so …,” Embiid quipped.

This would be more than a back-to-back. These would be the first two games of Embiid’s season. He logged 26 minutes in last night’s 12-point loss to the Knicks, going a woeful 2-for-11 from the field and grabbing just three rebounds in his time. Embiid does not look whole.

There should be little expectation he pushes in a back-to-back to start his season, not when his health dictates all of Philadelphia’s big-picture success. Oddsmakers do not expect Embiid to play, nor do early-afternoon reports.

The Cleveland Cavaliers and the Philadelphia 76ers do not have many common opponents thus far this season, but look back at Cleveland’s October 30 visit from the Lakers, when the Cavs were favored by four points. Just last week, Philadelphia was a 7.5-point road underdog at Los Angeles, with Embiid out of the lineup but Paul George in it. If the 76ers had been the home team, that would have been about +4.5, logically.

In that thought, there should be only an 8.5-point difference between the Cavs and the 76ers. Put Philadelphia at home toinght and -5.5 would be the equivalent thought, but add in how much Cleveland has impressed this season, and that climbing spread starts to make sense.

Is -10.5 too high? Well, remove George, also sidelined tonight. He should be worth a bucket, right? That gets us to -8 in this quick thought exercise. Then the question is have the Cavs impressed enough to justify another 2 or 2.5 points? Well, they are 12-0 outright and 9-3 ATS. Of course they have.

Cavaliers vs 76ers same-game parlay

Cavaliers -10.5

76ers team total Under 104.5

Evan Mobley Over 16.5 points

Without Embiid, George, and point guard Tyrese Maxey, who are you going to trust to score for Philadelphia? Andre Drummond? Caleb Martin? Kyle Lowry?

They are all serviceable pros, but none create offense. This is a scheduled loss for the 76ers in all regards.

That may all be to Evan Mobley's advantage.

Drummond is not exactly a defensive worry these days. Mobley has cleared this points prop in three of his last five games and in six of 12 this season, usually going against better defenders than Drummond or Kelly Oubre.

  • This spread did not stay at -8.5 for long, jumping to -9.5 by the end of Tuesday night and then climbing to -10.5 on Wednesday afternoon as the Embiid expectations were confirmed.
  • The total fell with the Embiid realities, opening on Tuesday at 218 and slipping to 217 early on Wednesday morning.
  • The total rebounding to 218.5 may speak to an expected blowout.

Douglas Farmer spends his days thinking about college football and his nights thinking about the NBA. His betting habits and coverage follow that same pattern. He covered Notre Dame football for various outlets from 2008 to 2024, most notably spending eight seasons as NBC Sports’ beat writer on the Irish. That was also when his gambling focus took off. Knowing there were veteran beat writers with three decades more experience than he had, Douglas found his niche by best recognizing Notre Dame’s standing in each year’s national landscape, a complex tapestry most easily understood and remembered via betting odds.

In 2021, that interest created a freelance opportunity with Covers, a role that eventually led to Douglas joining the company full-time in 2023. In the fall, Douglas will place five or six dozen bets each week, a disproportionate amount via BetRivers because the operator tends to have lines slightly different than the rest of the market. The same can be said of Circa Sports’ futures markets.

While Douglas is an avid NBA fan and covers the league throughout the year, the vast majority of his bets are on college football, because that is the biggest key to sports betting: Know what you do not know.
