Grizzlies vs Clippers Picks: Memphis' Strong ATS

With Clippers perimeter hound dog Patrick Beverley sidelined tonight, Grizzlies star Ja Morant should be able to attack the paint with ease tonight.

After a hard-fought win against Portland that went late into the evening last night, the Los Angeles Clippers get to host the Memphis Grizzlies as the tail end of a back-to-back with another late start tonight.

The Clippers are one of the hottest teams in the league and opened as 4.5-point NBA betting favorites over the Grizzlies, who are one game out of seventh in the West—but also one game out of 10th.

Against the spread (ATS) pick

(Editor's Note: These picks were made prior to Wednesday afternoon's news that Paul George and Kawhi Leonard would be out for the Clippers.)

The Clippers earned a 113-112 victory in Portland last night and they now have to head back to Los Angeles for a meeting with this tough Grizzlies team. On top of this being a difficult matchup to begin with, there’s always a chance that Los Angeles will opt to rest some of its key players.

So, you’re going to want to keep a close eye on the injury report, but the uncertainty actually makes the Grizzlies an even better value in this game.

Memphis is coming off a tough loss in Denver on Monday, but this team is playing some great basketball as of late. The Grizzlies have covered in 11 of their last 13 games and during that span, the Grizzlies are first in the NBA in offensive rating, scoring 118.9 points per 100 possessions.

They’re also first in the league in assist-to-turnover ratio in that time, and that’s especially important in a matchup like this against a Clippers squad that is 11th in the NBA in defensive rating this season, so valuing the basketball is crucial when trying to beat them.

Of course, Ja Morant is the player to keep an eye on for the Grizzlies here. Without Patrick Beverley to hound him, Morant should be able to get downhill and put a lot of pressure on the Clippers' guards. He’s capable of blowing by most defenders in this league and the Clips don’t have many great perimeter defenders with Beverley on the shelf.

Grayson Allen could also make an impact here. Allen has scored at least 23 points in three of the last four contests and he is really shooting the ball well as of late. Memphis runs a lot of actions that are designed to free up shooters, so it wouldn’t be shocking if he gets some clean looks against a Los Angeles team that might lack focus after a tough game yesterday.

PREDICTION: Grizzlies +2 (-110)

Over/Under pick

The Over has hit in eight of the last nine games that the Grizzlies have played and a lot of that has to do with the fact that they are really clicking offensively.

Memphis has scored at least 126 points in each of the last three games, and the team now faces a Los Angeles group that just has scored 237 points its last two games. Both of these teams have plenty of offensive talent — even with some excellent players missing — so look for them to get it going and turn this one into an exciting game to watch.

PREDICTION: Over 227.5 (-110)

Player prop pick

With Serge Ibaka injured, Ivica Zubac has really stepped up and played well for the Clippers. He has scored in double figures in six of the last seven for Los Angeles, and the team generally does a nice job of spoon-feeding him easy buckets around the basket.

Against a team that scores a lot of points, the Clippers should be able to get their big fella involved quite a bit. Memphis has some nice low-post scorers, but the team does not have a true rim protector right now.

PREDICTION: Ivica Zubac Over 12.5 points (-120)
