Knicks vs Nets Odds, Picks, and Predictions Tonight: Brunson All Business at Barclays Center

The Nets are mired in a massive slump, and a red-hot Knicks team coming to town is exactly what Brooklyn doesn't need, per our NBA betting picks. Andrew Caley sees the Nets struggling on offense tonight.

Talk about making the right move. The New York Knicks have been playing some ridiculously-good basketball since trading for OG Anunoby. The Knicks are 9-2 straight-up and 8-3 ATS since Anunoby joined the team, and the NBA odds like their chances of staying hot when they visit the cross-town rival Brooklyn Nets tonight.

Unlike the Knicks, the Nets are not in a good place, and have won just four games since the middle of December. Can Brooklyn bust out of its funk and give NBA bettors some value as home underdogs, or will New York continue to roll?

I break down this Atlantic Division battle and bring you my best bet plus a same-game parlay in my free NBA picks and predictions for Knicks vs. Nets on Tuesday, January 23.

Knicks vs Nets predictions

Yes, this new version of the New York Knicks is working out so far. Not only are they 9-2 SU and 8-3 ATS since acquiring OG Anunoby, they also rank second in the NBA in net rating over that period.

Guys like Jalen Brunson and Donte DiVincenzo have been hot with shooting the basketball. Julius Randle has been playing well. But this team now hangs its hat on defense.

New York has been suffocating the opposition at that end of the floor, ranking second in the NBA in defensive rating and  third in opponent 3-point shooting percentage, allowing just 100.3 points per game over that stretch. The Knicks are also an elite team on the glass, ranking first in rebounding rate.

That defense, plus an efficient offense that likes to milk the shot clock, has meant the Under has gone 10-1 in the Knicks' last 11 games.

Meanwhile, the same can’t be said for the Brooklyn Nets.

Brooklyn is in a bad place, going just 4-15 SU and 4-14-1 ATS over its last 19 games overall. The offense has fallen off a cliff over this stretch, ranking 26th in offensive rating and 28th in effective field goal percentage, putting up 110.9 points per game. That number drops to 108.5 over the last 11 games. This means they are going to have trouble getting buckets in this one.

These two teams faced off back on Dec. 20 and it went how you would expect by my tone. The Knicks won that matchup 121-102 as 1.5-point road favorites. They held the Nets to just 37% shooting from the floor, and that was before they had Anunoby.

New York is just a much better team than Brooklyn at this point. The Nets' team total is sitting at 109.5, and they’ve played below that number seven times in the last 11 games. Take the Under here tonight.

My best bet: Nets team total Under 109.5 (-106 at FanDuel)

Nets team total Under 109.5

Nic Claxton Under 10.5 rebounds

Jalen Brunson Over 2.5 threes

You will easily pick up on the “fade the Nets” theme in this same-game parlay, which of course starts off with our best bet of Brooklyn to stay Under its team total of 109.5.

There are a lot of reasons to like this bet. Simply put, the Knicks are just a bad matchup for the Nets. For example, New York should have a big edge on the glass tonight. The Knicks lead the NBA in rebounding rate and allow the second-fewest rebounds per game.

That has me looking at Nic Claxton’s rebounding prop. Claxton is the Nets' best rebounder, hauling down 10.1 rebounds per game. He has been one of the few Nets actually playing well, so it’s no surprise to see his rebounding prop sitting at 10.5. But he’s had his problems against the Knicks.

In five starts against New York over the past season and a half, he’s averaged just eight rebounds per game and has grabbed double-digit boards just once in that span. I’m betting the Under 10.5 rebounds at +106 individually as well, but let’s also make it the second leg of this SGP.

The Nets also struggle to defend the 3-point line. They rank 24th in opponent 3-point shooting percentage and allow the fifth-most made 3s per game. This is not good considering the way Jalen Brunson and Donte DiVincenzo are shooting the ball.

Let’s bet on Brunson tonight, as the Knicks point guard is hot. He’s shooting 38.8% from beyond the arc over his last 10 games and has hit four or more 3s six times over that stretch. Add his Over 2.5 3s here tonight.

Knicks vs Nets spread and Over/Under analysis

The Knicks opened this Atlantic Division matchup as 4-point road favorites. They were bet up to -5 but have since come back down to the opening number. For many of the reasons above, I would lean toward laying the points with New York at -4.

Brooklyn’s offense shouldn’t be able to get much going against this New York defense, and the Knicks can take advantage of the Nets’ weakness on the perimeter with their shooters.

As for the total, it hit the board at 223 and that’s where the number sits as of Tuesday afternoon. Since I’m on the Nets team total to go Under, I would lean toward the full-game Under as well. My only worry is that a 125-100 type of game feels like it is on the table here.

The sportsbook where he does the bulk of his betting is bet365 thanks to its numerous prop betting options and competitive odds. His best advice? Find the balance between the numbers and what you see on the playing field. Then find the best price using multiple books. And don’t ask him where the nickname Taco comes from. It’s not an interesting story. Seriously.
