Lakers vs Suns Odds, Picks, and Predictions Tonight: Russell Basks in the Sunlight

D'Angelo Russell's irrational confidence might not be a bad thing for the Lakers, who will need all the firepower they can get while Anthony Davis is out. Find out what our NBA picks think that means against the Suns tonight.

With a three-game losing run and another injury for Anthony Davis, some early alarm bells are going off for the L.A. Lakers — but they’ll look to sweep all that aside in tonight’s showdown against the NBA odds favorite Phoenix Suns.

The Lakers are a perfect 3-0 at home this season, however, they’re reeling from an 0-5 start on the road, capped off by an embarrassing 128-94 loss to the Houston Rockets on Wednesday.

L.A. could be without Davis again here — he’s questionable with an adductor issue — but there’ll be little sympathy from the Suns, who’ve faced an injury-riddled first few weeks of their own.

Bradley Beal finally made his first appearance for Phoenix in the OT win over the Chicago Bulls in midweek, but Devin Booker sat out with a calf injury.

Lakers vs Suns predictions

It only took seven games for the heavy minutes load to catch up with Anthony Davis, pouring cold water on the idea that AD is ready to help LeBron James shift into a secondary role.

There’s every chance that the Lakers take the cautious approach with Davis’ return, and it would be somewhat surprising to see him back in action tonight. Either way, the L.A. offense is still searching for solutions as the visitors chase the season’s first road win.

Enter D’Angelo Russell, who may not be the answer for the Lakers but seems to play as if he believes he is. When it comes to his points prop against the Suns, that’s all you can ask for.

Kidding aside, Russell has been productive for L.A. this year, averaging 17.9 points a game and papering over a slow start from Austin Reaves. DLo is coming off a 22-point night against the Rockets on 9-for-18 shooting despite only playing 28 minutes in the blowout loss.

Russell is never shy about getting up shots either. He’s had 17 or more field goal attempts in three of his past four outings, and he’s shot 50% or better in four of his last five games.

With those kinds of opportunities, the Over on his points prop feels well within reach, and he’s had 17 or more points four times this season. The Suns’ perimeter defense is far from elite, and I see Russell taking advantage tonight.

My best bet: D’Angelo Russell Over 16.5 points (-109 at Caesars)

Lakers vs Suns same-game parlay

D'Angelo Russell Over 16.5 points

Jusuf Nurkic Over 9.5 rebounds

LeBron James Over 6.5 assists

30% boost available

While a repeat of Jusuf Nurkic’s 17-rebound effort against Chicago doesn’t feel likely tonight, this jumps out as a favorable matchup for the Bosnian Beast, especially if Davis is out or on limited minutes. The Lakers were outrebounded 57-34 in Houston in midweek.

I’ve got to throw a LeBron prop into the mix too. L.A. needs a win to steady the ship, and I see James finding another gear to quiet the noise. That starts with a bigger playmaking role after a combined five assists in his last two games, and he had nine assists against the Suns back on October 26.

Lakers vs Suns spread and Over/Under analysis

With the Lakers’ road woes and the question marks over Davis’ availability, it makes sense that the Suns are tagged as favorites tonight on their home floor despite being 1-2 so far at Footprint Center. It’s also worth noting that L.A. has a 2-6 ATS mark this season.

Phoenix has come out on top in seven of the past 10 meetings between these teams, though the Lakers have won the last three matchups.

The Suns are still waiting to have their Kevin Durant-Devin Booker-Bradley Beal Big 3 on the floor together, but Nurkic, Grayson Allen, and Keita Bates-Diop have all stepped up to give Frank Vogel quality minutes. That depth could be the X-factor tonight against an L.A. team working with a short rotation.

The Under has been a winning ticket in eight of the Lakers’ last 10 contests and they haven’t reached 110 points on their current three-game skid, even with a 30-point night from James against the Miami Heat on Monday.

A line of 223.5 seems to reflect the offensive struggles and the fact that Beal is still working his way back. The teams’ first meeting of the season trended towards defense, with L.A. rallying late for a 100-95 win.

Lakers vs Suns betting trend to know

If L.A. is going to finally put a road W on the board tonight, it’ll likely come down to defense. The Lakers have hit the Under on the 1H Game Total in 42 of their last 71 games. Find more NBA betting trends for Lakers vs. Suns.
