LeBron James is already the NBA’s king of scoring, but now the future Hall of Famer has yet another eye-popping milestone in his sights. The question isn’t if, but when, the Los Angeles Lakers star becomes the first player in NBA history to surpass the 40,000-point plateau.

So, it’s no surprise that NBA futures have been released regarding not only when LeBron hits this groundbreaking achievement, but in the manner of how he will do it.

Let's take a deeper look at the NBA odds for which game will LeBron James score his 40,000th regular season point and just exactly how he gets that historic bucket.

In which game will LeBron James score his 40,000th regular season point?

Date FanDuel
February 29 vs. Washington Wizards +1,500
March 2 vs. Denver Nuggets -125
March 4 vs. Oklahoma City Thunder +100
March 6 vs. Sacramento Kings +3,100

Odds as of February 29, 2024.

LeBron James continues to add incredible accomplishments to his trophy case and his GOAT resume, and 40,000 points would be one hell of a feather in his cap.

What James is doing in his 21st NBA season has never been seen before. Despite the fact he is turning 39 years old at the end of the year, James is putting up 25.2 points on 52.6% shooting while adding 7.1 rebounds and 7.9 assists per game for the Los Angeles Lakers this season.

LeBron is now less than 50 points from hitting the mind-boggling 40,000 regular season points scored mark, which means his breaking the record is imminent.

When it comes to the betting odds, the favorite date for James to reach 40K is just two games away. A March 2 date at home against the Denver Nuggets is sitting at -125, while the following contest on March 4 vs. the Oklahoma City Thunder is next at +100.

That said, I’m looking at targeting the latter. There's a chance LeBron may sit out the February 29th game against Washington. He's listed as questionable, particularly because it's the second half of a back-to-back. This isn't just any back-to-back either; in last night's first leg, he led the Lakers to a remarkable 21-point comeback win over the Clippers.

That would mean his next game is March 2, and he’s only hit the 40-point mark once this season, meaning he'll likely need two games to hit the 40K milestone.

Pick: March 4 vs. Oklahoma City (+100 at FanDuel)

How will LeBron James score his 40,000th regular season point?

Method FanDuel
Layup +175
3-point field goal +300
Other +320
Free throw +500
Dunk +550

Odds as of February 29, 2024.

LeBron will undoubtedly claim he does not care about this milestone. However, the night will arrive when hitting 40,000 points is on the table, and he's going to empty the tank and go for it.

And when LeBron gets that look in his eye, he starts jacking up shots. But hey, history.

While James is having one of his best years when it comes to shooting the 3-ball (39.2%), he’s always been a streaky 3-point shooter and I don’t like that a shot from deep is only listed at +300.

The value with this scoring prop ultimately lies with "Other" at +320. The majority of LeBron's shots still come from within the 3-point line, where he is shooting an efficient 54% this season.

While the fear is he breaks through for a layup or dunk, I’m picturing a turnaround fadeaway or a pull-up jumper for LeBron’s record-breaking bucket.

Pick: Other (+320 at FanDuel)

It’s not an interesting story. Seriously.
