The Toronto Raptors are supposed to be bad. It’s a rebuilding year. So, what’s the Philadelphia 76ers excuse?
Both of these Atlantic Division foes are on the outside looking in at the Eastern Conference playoff picture, so are the Sixers deserving of nearly 10 points of chalk in this matchup?
My Raptors vs. 76ers predictions break down why taking the points with Toronto is your best course of action. Find out more in my NBA picks for Tuesday, February 11.

My analysis
The Toronto Raptors are coming off their fourth consecutive loss, dropping their record to 16-37 for the season. However, if there are some positives to take away from that loss, it’s that the Raps continue to play improved defense and are still one of the best teams in the NBA when it comes to covering spreads.
Over the last 14 games, Toronto ranks sixth in defensive rating and fifth in opponent field goal percentage. If the Raps can keep the effort up at that end of the floor, they'll keep things close against the Philadelphia 76ers tonight.
This season has been a disaster for the Sixers. With Joel Embiid dealing with a multitude of injuries and Paul George looking old, Philly enters this matchup 12 games below .500, which includes having lost three in a row.
Embiid has played just 16 games this season and is listed as questionable for this matchup due to, surprise, surprise... injury management. When he’s been on the court, the numbers have been lacking. He is averaging just 24.8 points per game and shooting a career-worst 45.6% from the floor, while his 8.3 rebounds per game is the lowest since his rookie season.
While the Sixers have Tyrese Maxey to carry the offensive load, the defense has really struggled this season. Philly currently ranks 24th in defensive rating and is dead last in opponent effective field goal percentage.
The 76ers have failed to cover the spread in 13 of their last 19 games, yet they are still laying 9.5 points against a Raptors team that beat the Sixers 115-107 as 5-point underdogs back in late October.
The Raptors are the team in this matchup playing with much more energy and better defense lately. Give me the points.
Raptors vs 76ers same-game parlay
With or without Embiid, the 76ers are one of the worst rebounding teams in the NBA. They enter this matchup ranked dead last in the NBA when it comes to rebounding rate, as well as 16th in opponent rebounds per game.
That has me backing Scottie Barnes on the glass, as the Toronto star is averaging 7.8 rebounds per game this season and is coming off a 9-rebound performance against the Rockets on Sunday.
The Sixers are also getting burned by the deep ball. Philadelphia allows the fifth-highest opponent 3-point shooting percentage in the Association. That has me looking at Immanuel Quickley.
IQ has seen his minutes restrictions lifted, having played at least 27 minutes in his last two games. He is shooting 40.9% from 3-point range since his return from the injured list and let it fly against Houston, going 3-for-9 from beyond the arc. Let’s close this SGP out with Quickley to go Over 2.5 threes.

Raptors vs 76ers spread and Over/Under analysis
- The Raptors opened this Atlantic Division matchup as 7.5-point road underdogs and early bettors have faded them, moving the spread as high as 9.5.
- This may indicate that Joel Embiid has a good chance of playing tonight, but the 76ers are getting respect for being the team they used to be rather than the one taking the court lately. Philadelphia has lost five of its last six, including the last two with Embiid starting.
- The total in this matchup hit the board at 225.5 and has been bet down slightly to 224.5 as of early Tuesday afternoon.
- I'm staying away from this relatively low number. The Raptors' defense has improved and the 76ers place at the third slowest pace in the NBA.
