My analysis
The San Antonio Spurs were steamrolled Sunday, dropping a 146-132 decision to the West-leading Oklahoma City Thunder. That’s the most points San Antonio has given up in a game this season.
San Antonio’s plans of a playoff push coming out of the All-Star break were deep-sixed once Victor Wembanyama was shut down due to blood clots in his shoulder.
Without their second-year star, the Spurs are just 2-5 in seven games. Their defensive numbers have dropped, and they now give up a whopping 121.3 points per game. Pre-injury, the Spurs were allowing 114.4 points.
A soft defense might be just what the doctor ordered for the Brooklyn Nets, who have struggled to score during their slide. Last time out against Detroit, Brooklyn was crushed 115-94, the third time in four games it's been held to 102 points or fewer.
That’s been a recurring theme all season, as the Nets average just 104.8 points per game.
However, the Nets should get an offensive jolt to their roster, as leading scorer Cam Thomas is expected to play, while D’Angelo Russell (ankle) is also off the injured list and could be available.
Brooklyn’s plans for a tank have also fallen by the wayside, as it enters Tuesday just 2.5 games back of the Bulls for 10th and the final Play-In spot in the East. The Nets are among the best cover clubs as road dogs — 18-10-1 against the spread — the third-best success rate in the NBA.
While De’Aaron Fox is easily the best player for both teams, Brooklyn’s extra reinforcements against a slipping San Antonio defense will be enough for the Nets to snap their skid.

Fox has struggled finding his way offensively without Wembanyama. It’ll be his first time facing the Nets as a Spur, but he could conjure up some good vibes against a team he’s had his way with.
Fox has scored 29 points or more in three of his last four against Brooklyn, including twice this season, when he scored 31 on November 24 and 30 on January 27.
I’ll wrap with Cam Johnson, whose lengthy 60-game streak with at least one 3-point hit snapped against Detroit, as he went 0-for-10 from beyond the arc.
That’s now the sixth time in the last eight that Johnson has failed to nail three triples in a game, and his 3-point make line is set at 2.5 against the Spurs.
