It’s been a brutal run of eight straight losses for the Miami Heat, and the schedule gets no easier tonight as they host a Detroit Pistons team that’s rolling toward the postseason.
Behind Cade Cunningham’s wizardry, Detroit still has a real shot at homecourt advantage for the first round of the playoffs, and my Pistons vs. Heat predictions signal another bleak night for Miami.
I’ve got you covered with NBA picks and betting nuggets for this March 19 clash.
Pistons vs Heat prediction
My best bet: Pistons -4.5 (-110 at bet365)
My analysis
Someone should tell the Miami Heat they’ve left it too late to tank. Seriously, though, the Heat are in free fall, dropping 10 games under .500 at 29-39, and their last two losses have come by a combined 55 points.
While the ever-forgiving Eastern Conference play-in race means Miami still holds the No. 10 spot, these are troubling times in South Beach.
There’s a polar opposite vibe around the Detroit Pistons, who’ve emerged as one of this season’s best stories. The Pistons are 20-15 on the road this year, and I’m laying the points with Cade Cunningham & Co. in this spot. Detroit is 38-29-2 ATS overall and 7-2-1 ATS in its last 10 matchups against the Heat.
The visitors have scored 119+ points in four of their past five contests, and Cade is getting plenty of help. On the flip side, only four teams are averaging fewer points per game than the Heat this season — that makes it hard to see the hosts keeping pace with a Detroit offense packed with capable shooters.
The Pistons’ depth is another real strength, and their bench served up 68 points in Monday’s rout of the Pelicans. Miami doesn’t have the same luxury, and both Andrew Wiggins and Alec Burks are listed as questionable. The last two meetings between these teams went right to the wire, but I expect a different story tonight.
Pistons vs Heat same-game parlay
It’s no secret that Detroit’s veteran signings this offseason have paid off, and Tobias Harris continues to look re-energized away from the Philly spotlight. I’m taking the Over on his rebounds prop tonight, with Harris delivering consistently on the glass this month.
He’s averaging 8.1 rpg so far in March, and he’s grabbed 7+ boards in five of his last seven outings. His minutes have crept up a little, too, with at least 34 minutes in four of his past six starts. This line feels too low.
The Miami offense has been ice-cold lately, and the hosts have fallen short of the 100-point mark in three straight games, but that should nudge Bam Adebayo to take on a larger chunk of the playmaking from the top of the key, relieving some of the burden on Tyler Herro’s shoulders.
Adebayo has logged 4+ assists in eight of his last 11 games, and I’m grabbing the Over on 3.5 dimes tonight, with the Heat desperately short of shot-creators as they try to right the ship.
