After a wild win in Atlanta, the new-look San Antonio Spurs try to make it two in a row when they visit the Charlotte Hornets.

Charlotte has just one win as they play the final game of their lengthy 9-game homestand, and they're hefty 11.5-point home underdogs in the NBA odds.

With LaMelo Ball likely back for Charlotte, our Spurs vs. Hornets prediction and NBA picks think there's potential for some offensive fireworks Friday night.

My analysis
The San Antonio Spurs' newest star acquisition didn't take long to assert himself into the lineup, as De'Aaron Fox went for 24 points and 13 assists in his debut, a 126-125 win over the Hawks.

Fox was recently acquired in a 3-way deal with the Kings and Bulls, and he'll serve as the right-hand man to second-year star Victor Wembanyama, who was named to his first all-star team this year.

With Fox in the fold, the 12th-placed Spurs could make a run for the play-in: they started the day two games back of the 10th-place Phoenix Suns.

While they looked good offensively, San Antonio will likely need to improve its defense.

They Spurs have won just four of the last 11 and have allowed 122.6 points per game, with teams shooting 49.5% from the field and 38.9% from 3-point range.

The Charlotte Hornets should be the ideal feel-good opponent, as they've dropped six in a row, including a 112-102 loss to the Milwaukee Bucks the last time out.

But there's a good chance that star guard LaMelo Ball will return to the lineup tonight from an ankle injury.

Ball has missed the last five games, and Charlotte's offense has cratered, scoring 104 points or less in four of those contests.

Despite their offensive woes, the Hornets remain an above-average defense, allowing 112.2 points per contest, which ranks 12th in the league.

Will it matter that they're a team in transition? Charlotte made several moves at the trade deadline, dealing center Mark Williams to the Lakers, with Cody Martin and Vaislije off to Phoenix.

The returning players, Dalton Knecht, Cam Reddish, and Jusuf Nurkic, might not be available for this contest.

San Antonio is one of the few teams Charlotte has recent success with, winning six of the last seven head-to-head meetings.

The Spurs and Hornets have hit the Over in four of the last six, but a closer look has these teams topping 225.5 total in six straight.

As long as Ball plays, there's no reason the Over hits for a seventh.

Spurs vs Hornets same-game parlay

Over 225.5 points

De' Aaron Fox Over 6.5 assists

LaMelo Ball Over 25.5 points

If his first game against Atlanta was any indication, Fox's role with the Spurs will likely include more playmaking than potent scoring.

He's currently 16th in the league in assists at 6.3 per contest, and while with the Kings, Fox had gone Under 6.5 assists in five straight games against the Hornets.

It's an opposite story for LaMelo, who has to score for Charlotte to be competitive. Prior to his injury, Ball had scored 20+ in 11 straight games, going over his 25.5 total five times.

He's scored exactly 28 points in three straight games against San Antonio.
