The Atlantic 10 has been a battle between the VCU Rams and George Mason Patriots all season, and it gets settled in the A10 Conference Tournament Final this afternoon.

My George Mason vs VCU predictions take the Over after the books have established a very generous total for this championship final.

Read more in my college basketball picks for March 16.

Who will win George Mason vs VCU?

VCU has been the dominant team head-to-head, winning five straight, including this year’s lone matchup, a 70-54 drubbing.

The Rams are the only team in the conference to rank inside the Top 3 in both scoring and points allowed.

They averaged 77.9 points, second to only Rhode Island, while leading the A10 in scoring defense, allowing just 62.6 points per game. George Mason ranks second behind them but is a distant 12th in scoring, putting up just 71.1 points per game.

After opening the conference tournament with a 16-point win over St. Bonaventure, the Rams’ defense showed their teeth in a 62-55 semifinal win over Loyola Chicago.

VCU held the Ramblers to just 29.4% shooting from the field, including a brutal 5-for-25 mark from 3-point range. Expect that defense to show up again here.

George Mason vs VCU prediction

My best bet: Pick (-110 at bet365)

George Mason has been on quite a roll since January 8 with just two losses in its last 18 games.

The offense has come to life in the A10 Tournament, beating George Washington 80-65 before toppling Saint Joseph’s 74-64 to set up the winner-take-all showdown.

Finding their offensive groove has been encouraging, especially since the Patriots had failed to touch the 70-point plateau in five of their last six to close out the regular season.

They’ve been led by all A10 First-Teamer Jalen Haynes, who scored 22 points against St Joe's after dropping 24 on George Washington. The senior forward has scored at least 22 points in four of the last six games.

He’ll be going toe-to-toe with A10 player of the year Max Shulga, who bounced back from a rough 1-for-9 shooting night against SBU by going for 14 points, 10 rebounds and four assists in the win over Loyola Chicago.

With Shulga yet to have his breakout game of the tournament and Haynes at his high-point, the two schools should be able to best a light 127.5 line.

George Mason has hit the Over in four of its last six, while VCU has struck for at least 70 points in four of the last five head-to-head meetings with the Patriots.

George Mason vs VCU same-game parlay (SGP)

Over 127.5

George Mason +8.5

VCU is my pick to advance, but George Mason isn’t going to go down without a fight. The Patriots have covered just once in the last five meetings, which are all losses to the Rams.

However, VCU didn’t enter the A10 tournament at its best, and the Rams haven’t been as dominant, going 1-2-1 ATS over the last four games.

They failed to cover as 9.5-point favorites against LCU and were upset as 10-point favorites against Dayton in the final game of the regular season.
