It was an eventful first round for March Madness betting, but with few upsets. However, I can see that shifting as we enter Round 2.
My three-leg parlay is focusing on the final three games of the night.
Today’s best March Madness parlay: Saturday, March 22
Wisconsin -1
These two teams have very similar styles, except the Wisconsin Badgers are much more talented. The Badgers also have a better defense and shoot better from the free-throw line. Wisconsin leads the country with an 82.7% shooting percentage from the charity stripe.
The BYU Cougars struggle from the free-throw line and give up a ton of threes. That may be all the difference the Badgers need to advance to the Sweet 16.
Gonzaga +5.5
The Gonzaga Bulldogs were very likely underseeded as a No. 8. They're ranked ninth in the KenPom rankings, including ninth in offensive efficiency and 29th in defensive efficiency. They certainly looked the part on Thursday when they dismantled Georgia.
The Houston Cougars are the most vulnerable No. 1 seed because they can struggle offensively in certain situations. They have the best defense in the country, but Gonzaga shoots the second-best percentage in the nation. I like Gonzaga to win outright, but I'll take the points here.
UCLA +5
The UCLA Bruins looked like the team ranked 15th in the country entering 2025 on Thursday night when they beat Utah State 72-47. This team has wins over Oregon, Wisconsin, Arizona, and Michigan State, so they won't be intimidated by the No. 2-seeded Tennessee Volunteers.
Both teams are excellent on the defensive end and play at a slow pace. That is why I like taking the points. I would lean towards a UCLA upset, but I especially like the spread in what should be a close game.
