The Providence Friars will be looking to play spoiler on Tuesday night when they travel to Milwaukee to take on the 21st-ranked Marquette Golden Eagles.
The Golden Eagles dominated the first matchup on the road earlier this season. Find out why my Providence vs. Marquette predictions are focusing in on one Golden Eagle to take advantage of a mismatch at home in my college basketball picks for February 25.

My best bet

My analysis
These two teams met all the way back on New Year's Eve in Rhode Island. The Marquette Golden Eagles won that game 78-50 in a dominating performance. Things are unlikely to get better in this second go round for the Providence Friars as they are 2-7 on the road this season, with their two wins coming over DePaul and Seton Hall, who are a combined 4-29 in Big East play.
Marquette guard Stevie Mitchell only played 21 minutes in that game but still put up 14 points on 5-for-8 shooting. He got his scoring from a little bit of everywhere with six points from inside the arc, six from behind the arc, and two from free throws. The Providence weakness on defense is what makes this a great matchup for him.
The Friars rank 305th in 2-point field goal attempts allowed and 254th in free-throw attempts allowed. They also rank 252nd in percentage of points allowed from 2-pointers and 301st in percentage of points allowed from free throws. Their lone strength is not allowing many assists on defense.
Mitchell ranks third on the team in field goal attempts, but second in 2-point field goal attempts. He also attempts the second-most free throws and shoots 74.4% from the line. He shoots 49.5% from the floor, which ranks second on the team.
The biggest obstacle to Mitchell hitting this prop will be playing time. It seems to be either him or Zaide Lowery — his replacement on the bench — that is the secondary scoring option behind Kameron Jones. However, Lowery attempts more threes than twos per game and doesn’t get many free throw attempts. That is why I like Mitchell in this spot.
Mitchell has reached double-digits in scoring in nine of his 16 Big East games this season. Even though he has failed to do so in seven of his last 11, matchups play a huge role in that. This positive matchup is enough to make me feel confident in this being a big game for Mitchell.
Providence vs Marquette same-game parlay (SGP)
To go with our best bet, I am going to take a rebounder for the Friars. While there will not be a ton of opportunities for them, they get an excellent percentage and are especially good defensive rebounders. I will take on of their most consistent rebounders in Oswin Erhunmwunse.
He averages 5.4 rebounds per game and had five rebounds in the previous matchup. That was despite Corey Floyd Jr. playing and having seven boards himself. He is questionable tonight and has missed the last three games with a concussion.
Finally, I am going to add Marquette forward Ben Gold to go without an assist. We mentioned how Providence’s one strength on defense is not allowing many assists. Gold went without an assist in the last matchup has played 10 of his 16 conference games with no assists.
