The Texas A&M Aggies have dropped their last two contests, sending them spiraling down the standings of college basketball’s most competitive league. The Aggies are back home and trying to stop the bleeding against the Vanderbilt Commodores.

My analysis
Wade Taylor IV scored 18 points against a very talented Tennessee team this past weekend, keeping the Texas A&M Aggies competitive against one of the best programs in the nation.
What was most impressive was how Taylor overcame a bad shooting day — 0-for-9 from 3-point range — to find different ways to contribute on offense, namely hitting 10 of 12 free throws.
He faces a much softer opponent at home tonight. The Vanderbilt Commodores are the bottom-ranked defense in the SEC and have surrendered 79 points per road game this season. That metric has spiked in recent road showings, with Vandy allowing scores of 81, 82, 86, 97, and 103 in its last five SEC away games.
Granted, those beatings came from some of the top offensive attacks in the land — something Texas A&M is not. The Aggies aren’t a great shooting side and generate a lot of buckets from a swarming defense, leading to points off turnovers and easy looks at the bucket.
Those opportunities will be there against Vandy, which gives up the third-most points off turnovers in the SEC. In their last outing, the Commodores avoided a loss to Mississippi despite 13 turnovers turning into 21 Rebel points.
Vanderbilt also sits bottom of the conference in protecting the arc, watching foes connect on better than 40% of long-range looks. That perimeter patrol has been pretty loose in recent outings, allowing an average of almost 10 triples over their last three.
Outside of Taylor, the Aggies aren’t a threat from distance. He won’t hesitate to let it fly from deep, averaging almost eight 3-point attempts per outing. Before Saturday’s embarrassing 0-fer effort against Tennessee, Taylor has recorded three or more triples in five of his previous seven games.
In his last three matchups with the Commodores, the 6-foot senior has scored 14, 18, and 25 points. His player projections for Wednesday range from 13 points to a high of 23, with the bulk of those forecasts coming in above his current point prop of 16.5 O/U.
My number for Taylor sits just north of 18 points, which gives us plenty of punch to get past his scoring total tonight.
