If there’s one thing both sides will have under their belts come the final, it’s a battle-tested semifinal win.
The Penguins gutted out a close 56-54 win over Cleveland State to punch their ticket to the championship game, while the Colonials needed overtime to dispatch Oakland 79-76.
These teams are solidly matched, with RMU scoring 76.5 points per game to rank fourth in the Horizon League, just a 10th more than fifth-ranked YSU.
They’re Top 3 in scoring defense, with the Colonials holding opponents to 70.2 points per game, and the Penguins behind them at 71.4.
Robert Morris was the best cover team in the conference, going a stellar 24-8-0 against the spread, while Youngstown State was in the middle of the pack at 15-14-1 ATS. However, YSU has a solid body of work that shows the ability to go toe-to-toe with the Colonials. They worked them 72-58 on Dec. 4 and lost by a slim 72-70 margin on Jan. 22.
They stifled RMU’s 3-point shooting, which was ranked fourth in the Horizon. The Colonials shot a combined 9-for-39 in both games, a paltry 23.1% clip.
